temptation-16121 started following you
Cynthia thought for a moment as she tried to picture this Alex person using Joshâs description. Unfortunately, nothing came up. With a frown, she shook her head and said softly, âIâm sorry. I havenât seen him. But heâs a military man, huh?â Then Iâll definitely have to meet this man. âWell if he is, Iâm sure heâs fine.â She had hoped what she said was true but in this town, no one was safe.
So someone had told both of them that they werenât supposed to come here. Cynthia could definitely believe it. âIâm not surprised. I donât think you know how dangerous this town is. It⊠shows you things, yâknow?â Well, he probably wouldnât but perhaps he would find out soon enough. Right after she spoke she regretted saying those words as he explained that he was worried about his brother. Now he was probably even more worried, thanks to her. The least she could do was protect him⊠but she really wished she had someone to protect her, the both of them actually. Maybe if she helped this young man find his brother that would happen. âYouâre too little to be out here. I can help you look for him⊠Well I know your brotherâs name is Alex but you have failed to tell me yours. You can call me Cynthia.â She gave him an awkward smile as she waited for his answer.
Josh grinned, she was being helpful now! And she thought Alex would be fine! âShows? I havenât seen anythingâŠâ But that included people. The town was eerily empty. It was quite creepy actually. âIâm not scared!â He grinned and pulled his backpack straps tight. But he frowned, if it really was dangerous⊠He shook his head. No, Alex had dealt with their dad, he must be fine. âHuh?â Little?! He frowned a bit, but the idea of having some help seemed nice. âOkay!â He grinned. âOh, uh, mine is Joshua!â He had completely forgotten to tell her that earlier, it was usually fairly important. But he had been so worried about, well, everything he hadnât even considered names an important thing.Â
âJoshua⊠okay,â Cynthia said, placing the name in her mind. Well, he wasnât the ideal traveling partner for survival, but he would have to do. She hoped that they wouldnât run into anything dangerous. She wouldnât be able to protect the child let alone protect herself. She frowned a bit, feeling so helpless. She silently cursed herself for being weak, pathetic⊠Was this karma for something she had done? If it was, she had enough of it.
âJosh, do you have any idea where your brother might be? I donât know where to startâŠâ
He nodded and grinned. But then paused. He hadnât a clue where to go. And now some one was going to be following him. He gave a nervous laugh. âGood questionâŠâ He had just been wandering aimlessly⊠âI guess you donât have a map thenâŠâ Okay, she had come from one direction, and he the other. But neither had seen Alex, so they had to go a different direction. There was a side road that he had passed not far back, maybe they could take that. âOkay, this way!â He started on his way back the way he had come from, glancing back to make sure she was there still.
âYeah, guess I donât. Thanks for pointing that out.â Hey, watch it girl. Heâs just a little kid. No need to get testy with him. Cynthia sighed, mentally chiding herself. She was just stressed to the limit and completely exhausted. She hoped that Josh would understand if her arm-sling wasnât much of a clue. She moved it around a bit and was relieved to know that it didnât hurt as much as before. That was all thanks to Frank. She prayed that he was doing alright.
Cynthia smiled slightly when Josh took the lead. He was a brave little boy, that was for sure. She followed closely behind him, looking around to sight any enemies. Luckily she couldnât see any. She still had a hard time wondering why out of all places, he would look for his brother here. Why would his brother be here in the first place? Maybe he was crazy? Could be, but Cynthia was also here too and she couldnât explain why. âJosh, if you say you two werenât allowed to go here, then why did your brother come here? It seems very suspicious.â
She was a very grumpy person Josh noticed. But, maybe she had a reason? Maybe there really was something horrible in this town... He shook the thought, she probably only got hurt by accident. He just kept walking, looking around. Every so often he would peer into a window, try a door, and keep moving. But she caught him off guard with a question. Blinking a bit he slowed down. "I met one man, who had said he saw Alex, and he said he was looking for me..." He looked at his feet for a moment. "But he can't be... he never came home. That's why I..." He trailed off, not wanting to think about it. "I'm sure he has a reason." He had too. Once again, he wandered closer to a building, trying the door. The knob turned but the door wouldn't budge. "Stupid door! It's locked." Why was it so hard to leave doors unlocked.
