Writeblr Intro

This is going to be the new pinned post on my blog for the foreseeable future.

I realise that I never really introduced myself, usually I just talk about my projects, but not the person behind it.

I'm Lizzy (she/her) and in my mid-twenties. I'm from Belgium and in my day-to-day I work full-time in payroll for a non-profit.

When I'm not working, I'm writing, reading or playing video games.

My current writing projects:

Little Prayers for Dead Gods

A romantic fantasy adventure novel starring a disgruntled God and a charming traveller

100k of travel banter, religious worship and inappropriate altar usage

Surface Shimmers

A feel-good mermaid mystery novel about three siblings discovering their latent mermaid powers amid a mass disappearance case in their quiet seaside town.

Features: lots of sibling banter, generational trauma and elaborate mermaid lore & worldbuilding

there is a very real tendency of teenagers with anxiety disorders self diagnosing with considerably more stigmatized and impairing mental illnesses (e.g. schizophrenia, DID, personality disorders), but the best response to that isn't to get angry with them for "appropriating" lol. instead you show them coping resources for the problems they're actually having and deemphasize diagnostic categories in general. if an 18 year old is claiming to have alzheimer's, they're probably making an innocent mistake and are in genuine distress. be kind.

Also I think this trend comes, at least in part, from how brushed aside anxiety disorders can be. If your parents and teachers dismiss you with 'oh everyone feels anxious', then inevitably you're going to start thinking that there must be something else going on with you

”You must feel very scared right now; let’s talk about how to help you personally, tailored to your symptoms” will always be more helpful than “stop faking (X) for attention”. If theyre that desperate for attention or an explanation, something is wrong.

An addition specifically for young people with memory issues and concerns about that.

Depression can mess with your memory a lot. A lack of sleep also affects it.

It may not be Alzheimer's, but there might be other factors at play that are just as important to take seriously.

Little life update: all the dizziness, nausea, headaches, etc. I've been experiencing the past couple of days/weeks might have to do with something called 'cybersickness' aka reverse motion sickness (your body isn't moving but your brain (due to looking at screens) is giving you a lot of signals of moving when you're sitting still.)

It really, really sucks and because I have an office job which has me looking at screens for 8 hours a day, five days a week, I might be a little a lot screwed. 🥺

I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow (for something unrelated) but I will ask her if there is anything I can do about it.

Doctor said it's just stress, which makes sense. I am stressed 24/7, wake up with headaches every day now, I'm anxious and depressed and constantly think about how much better off the world would be without me.

I'm scared and I'm so, so tired.

the worst writing crime you can ever commit in my opinion is watering down the dirty talk because you’re self-conscious that it sounds like it’s from a bad porno…..i cannot stress this enough……leave it alone. the moment you tell yourself he would not fucking say that you’re doomed. people will say almost anything if their dick is hard enough

um actually there's nothing wrong with letting cats be outdoor pets. your cat is depressed locked inside forever. it's animal abuse. let it outside. more cats should be let outside more often. especially overnight.

Okay I JUST realized I never posted these on here—- BUT BASICALLY, about a year and a half ago I started doing these experimental black hairstyle posts that were threads long on Twitter, to give artists a source of inspo for their black ocs whose hair they wanted to try something new with! There’s more to black hair than just the selected styles portrayed in media, and I thought it would be fun to show people how much texture, shape, fades, length, and style can be combined when drawing black hair—-cause it’s a kind of manipulation our hair can do irl!
