Although it seems that Rosalie has everything figured out, and she’s capable of taking care of herself, there is tragedy to her beauty.
For someone who is kind to everyone, Rosalie is hardest on herself and her worst critic…
Rosalie has multiple disabilities, but she became physically disabled about five or so years before she moves back to Pelican Town. She is in pain all the time. Worse when she stands too long or pushes too hard, or sneezes, or for no reason at all…
Some pain flares last minutes to hours. Other times she is wheelchair bound, or bed ridden for days. Unfortunately, all she can do is learn to live with it while not pushing too hard, find small joys and victories, and learn to ask for help before she collapses. All the while, hope that friends and family can be understanding, willing to help, and accommodating.
Rosalie’s mom taught her independence. She grew up too quickly in the chaotic household she was raised in where things only got done because of her. She thrived being on her own when allowed. Now having to ask for help is like admitting weakness to her.
But Rosalie had to ask her Uncle Gus for help in order to move on with her life, and knowing her situation, and though offered for years before, she’s only now finally ready and moves back to Pelican Town…
Rosalie says she’s fine. Or she will be fine. But the reality is, she never will be…🌹
Today is one of those days that I’m reminded of my limitations as a disabled person. I had a list of things to do, and yet I have been laying in bed most of the day in pain.
I know that the mod will never be complete if I don’t work on it, but as I say to my artist friends who may struggle, “there is no art without the artist”.
I wanted to show something outside beautiful moments Rosalie has with Shane or on her own, so I commissioned the amazing @nowlbowl to make this piece that captures Rosalie’s embarrassment and anxiety that comes with the reality of being physically disabled, and when it sets in that her disability, though invisible, is very real❤️🩹
