Speak of the devil!

Saturday night.

Mary is talking with a friend at the party of the century!

Mary “So, Jen, someone told me you are into Thomas! Is that true?”

Jen “Um... Er... I don’t know... I mean yes”

Mary “That´s great! you two would make an amazing couple!”

Jen “You think so?”

Mary “Totally!”

Jen “Well... I wanted to tell him how I feel about him, tonight”

Thomas approaches

Mary “Speak of the devil!”

Thomas is a really religious man

Thomas “Why were you talking about the devil?!”

Mary “No, dummy. We were talking about you”

Thomas “What? I’m not an angel, but I’m not that bad”

Thomas felt it as a really big insult so he actually left

Poor Jen it seems like she is gonna stay single. At least for tonight.

If Thomas had known that “Speak of the devil is an expression that’s used when the person you have just been talking about arrives.” He wouldn’t have imagine this

And he could have been our prince charming.

But you won’t be like Thomas and surely you would dance with Jen, because Now you get it!

A penny for your thoughts

For several minutes Thomas and Mary sat silently, then finally Mary looked at Thomas and said “A penny for your thoughts, Thomas” 

Thomas felt it as an insult

Thomas “My thoughts are way too expensive than a penny!”

What Thomas didn’t know is that  “A penny for your thoughts is a way of asking what someone is thinking” 

So if someone ever says this to you, don’t freak out! 

They don’t mean this:

Bite off more than you can chew

Thomas and Mary are having lunch.

Mary “How have you been, Thomas?”

Thomas “I’ve been a little stressed, you know? I have three projects and four tests next week and I also have to go to the gym, visit my girlfriend, meet with the student council and practice with my band”

Mary “Well, it seems to me that you are biting off more than you can chew”

Thomas doesn’t know anything about idioms so he thinks that Mary is telling him something like this:

But what Thomas didn’t know is that

“Bite off more than you can chew” means to take on a task that is way too big.

You won’t be like Thomas because Now you get it!
