Something that I don’t think people understand is that certain jokes are okay for friends to make… but not for strangers to make.

I insult my friends all the time.  My friends insult me all the time.  We’ll say creepy and inappropriate things to one another just to make each other uncomfortable because it’s funny, but we never take it seriously.  We know one another and we know we don’t mean it – it’s meant in jest, and it’s taken in jest because we’re so familiar with one another and because we’ve broken all the ice that needs to be broken.

But when somebody I DON’T know tries to make a joke that’s either too personal or too harsh… look, pal, you may know me, and you may know what my sense of humor is, and that’s great.  But I don’t know who the hell you are, and from my perspective, you’re some random stranger who’s coming up to me and crossing a line without having the necessary history with me to make that line crossable.

Please.  Don’t assume friendship with somebody just because you follow their work.  You might know who they are, but they don’t know who you are.

It is so well known that women are better and safer drivers than men that OUR CAR INSURANCE RATES ARE LOWER. Women get into fewer accidents, get fewer DUIs, and receive fewer speeding tickets than men.

Several scientific studies have shown that not only do men talk more than women, they also think that women have been talking for much longer than they actually have. Men interrupt and talk over women, dominate conversations, and still think women talk too much.

Men love to say this about women after hurting them, in order to shift the blame and dismiss their feelings in one go. In reality, women are taught to hold our tongues and control ourselves quite literally from birth. We’re taught to put men’s needs and wants ahead of our own emotions regardless of the personal cost. Men are taught to do more or less whatever the fuck they want to women. Men take their emotions out on women while women are expected to shove theirs down.

I could go on and on but I don’t really think I need to.

I’m really glad that the Vulture Culture community is taking this article seriously; I see a lot of comments from people saying that they’re not going to buy Indonesian bats any more.

Some people are also saying that they feel guilty about having bought bats in the first place, or that you should “do your research” before buying. Those are good points, but I would like you to know that, sometimes, “doing your research” does not yield any information, so I can’t blame people for not having known this.

The information that I used in this article I did not find on the internet. As far as I know, it didn’t exist in any public forum before I wrote it, and certainly not in the first page of Google search results. It took a lot  more investigation than someone could be expected to do for a $20 eBay purchase. This is what I did to find the info:

Anyways I’ve been getting over 380,000 notes a month easily and now I’m getting supposedly less than 1,000 a day. The ‘best stuff first’ feature has downgraded this site a tremendous amount, not only is the feature destructive to smaller blogs, they also somehow fucked up the activity page, and is no longer accurate or useful. 

Staff on tumblr rarely responds to unanimous disapproval unless shoved in their face, so I’m asking you guys to spread this post, and others like it around as much as possible as to get the message into their thick heads - that this greatly devolves the tumblr experience.
