NREP "Grandfathering" Opportunity for Former "California REAs

NREP is “grandfathering” individuals who have held a California REA certification as an Registered Environmental Property Assessor (REPA). This offer expires September 1, 2013. The REPA was established in 1987, several years before the REA program, and was instrumental in the development of the California REA certification. NREP advised and encouraged the State of California for a number of years on their program, which is one of the reasons the REA is virtually identical to the REPA.

Since 1987, the National Registry of Environmental Professionals (NREP) has been certifying professionals worldwide in industry, utilities, government, consulting, commerce, as well as the military in specific job responsibilities.

NREP is a not-for–profit, international, certification organization. Those certified are listed by name, employer and credential for public viewing on NREP’s website. Everyone receives a certificate suitable for mounting, identification card, the opportunity to attend meetings and conferences, and serve on national boards. NREP is not responsible in any way for specific knowledge and/or actions of anyone so credentialed. Who should submit their application?

To be grandfathered and credentialed as a Registered Environmental Property Assessor you only need to provide NREP with a copy of your REA ID card and $90. There is no examination. Already, many people have been in contact with NREP and grandfathered as an REPA. NREP has obtained the list of REAs from the Department of Toxic Substances which is the reason you are receiving this letter. So, if you’ve have misplaced your REA ID card, don’t worry, we know who is credentialed and who is not.

NREP has certified many thousand environmental professionals in the U.S. and other countries.

Our certifications are open to any individual who meets NREP qualifications of education, work experience and examination. As a former California REA, you meet all three of our qualifications, which the reason we can offer you to be grandfathered. NREP will not grant REPA grandfathering to anyone else. /span>

CESCO For An Advanced Knowledge of Environmental Safety and Compliance Regulations

Certified Environmental and Safety Compliance Officer (CESCO) certification is being provided under the grandfathering of NREP till the date 1st January, 2013.. The certification is an effort to scout and certify professionals conversant in the understanding the laws governing air, water, waste-water pollution and solid and hazardous waste and safety. Any individual keen upon enhancing his/her skills and proficiency in relation to environmental and safety profile in public or private organizations is eligible and suitable for a CESCO certification. Upon the completion of NREP's application and payment of $200, CESCO certification can be acquired.

There is no examination for the certification. After the1st of January, 2013, candidates seeking to get CESCO certification will have to take a comprehensive computerized examination. CESCO is authentication of knowledge in basic training concerning environment and safety. It is also a testament of a technician's zeal for self improvement in the said domain, a testament very useful in the competitive job market. Individuals working for a governmental agency or working for a private organization that is required to meet environmental and safety regulations or in a firm which conducts environmental and safety matters should ideally have CESCO certification.

The following qualification is required to be eligible for CESCO:

Education: Minimum of HAZWOPER 40 hr or OSHA 10 hr or 30 hr training or an Associates degree from an accredited community college. Work Experience: 2 years of full time employment performing environmental and/or safety responsibilities for a consultant, industry or military. CESCO certification program is a result of the efforts of an experienced advisory board from the government, military and the industry with a combined experience of over 100 years in matters of environmental assessments. It is mandatory on the part of the certification holders to abide by the NREP Code of Ethics and maintain the certification and validation of environment and safety knowledge.

Annual Renewal: An annual payment of $90 is to be paid to the as annual renewal fee before the expiration date shown on individual NREP ID card. * Please attach a copy of your Resume having the list of the dates and a description of the work done by you which required environmental and safety requirements. FREE Tour of the Nevada National Security Site

People attending NREP’s Technical Conference and Certification Workshops are invited to attend a special tour of the Nevada National Security Site Wednesday, October 5, 2011.

The Department of Energy (DOE), and its predecessor agencies the Energy Research and Development Administration and the Atomic Energy Commission, conducted nuclear tests and other experiments at the Nevada National Security Site (formerly known as the ‘Nevada Test Site), which helped maintain world peace, and the national security of the United States.

Since the establishment of the Nevada National Security Site in 1951, only authorized people have visited this vast outdoor laboratory that is larger than the state of Rhode Island, to see firsthand, artifacts and archaeological sites from the early settlers, to the many relics remaining from nuclear weapons tests, nuclear rocket experiments, and a variety of other defense, environmental, and energy-related programs.

The DOE tour bus will depart from the Atomic Testing Museum at 755 E. Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, Nevada. The Tour will depart at approximately 7:30 a.m. and return at 4:00 p.m. The museum is only a short taxi ride from the Riviera Hotel, so arrange to arrive by 7:30 a.m.

The tour mode of transportation provided is usually a chartered bus equipped with a restroom.

The Nevada National Security Site is located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada. Each tour usually covers about 250 miles. Tour participants should bring their own food and drinks, but no alcoholic beverages. There are no lunch stops. Casual clothing is recommended, and sturdy shoes are required for the rugged terrain. No shorts or sandals are permitted.

Visitors to the Nevada National Security Site must be at least 14 years old. Pregnant women are discouraged from participating in Nevada National Security Site tours because of the long bus ride and uneven terrain.

In 2011 NREP will present dual awards to the NREP applicant and the key organization involved in the activity. All award applicants must be active NREP certified professionals, who were involved in the actual projects completed between July 1, 2010 and July 31, 2011, as an owner’s representative, consultant, supplier, constructor, or inventor. The other awards will be given to the principal organization involved in the program, whether it is the facility, government agency, consultant or constructor. DEADLINE The project nomination submission deadline is August 31, 2011.
