Getting to Know Me
Rules: answer the questions and then tag twenty followers and/or mutuals that you’d like to get to know! I was tagged by in fucking January by @studyblresource and just now saw it whoops name: William nickname: Will, & I also sometimes go by my middle names, Haven & Patrick. star sign: Leo af gender: Fluid, right now mostly male leaning, I like to think of my gender as the ocean. I mostly use he/him pronouns sometimes also ce/cir/cirs/cirself (soft c) height: 5’ 2.75" relationship: yes but not in a dating a human kind of way fav colour: Purple! and Grey! and Green! and Cream! and Dark Red! aka my brand colors average hours of sleep: lmaoooooo last song you listened to: Fake Your Death by My Chemical Romance I listened to it in the eye doctors while my contacts were settling because my eyes were drying out and I wanted to cry what’re you currently reading: hah! I'll hopefully be reading normally (dyslexia aside) again soon, but right now it's super tough with the double vision. I'm listening to audiobooks of the Song of Achilles and Everybody Writes, mostly reading articles and blog posts for my business research, and trying to read The Empire Striketh Back last movie you watched: Charlotte's Web, the old school animated version aka best version favourite quote: “Anything can be art. Anything can be self-expression. So take your weapon and run with it." - Gerard Way (current favorite that I have memorized. I am a quotes fiend also if anyone knows where/when they said this lmk) last thing you googled: the force awakens novelization author number of blankets: comforter + electric blanket + sometimes my grey fuzzy throw fav band/artists: Enter the Haggis & My Chemical Romance what are you wearing: orange shirt from my mom's college days that says 84 on it, pj pants that have colorful Scottie dogs what do you post about: on here I post a variety of things about studying/education/productivity/literature/languages and also resources for studying and studyspo any other blogs: lmao so many. most of which I won't list here because this blog is linked to my professional one (mutuals hmu if you want my main (mostly bandom and les mis rn), music, religious/mythology, or aesthetics blog). I blog professionally at <a href="doubledvisions.com">doubledvisions.com</a> about meditation, digital organization, productivity, and creativity. you should totally check it out because if you like this blog you probably have a interest in what I post there, also I've got a free email course on how to rock the shit out of Evernote (and if you're looking to hire someone on the (fairly) cheap to edit your essays or whatever, I'm your ocean boy) when did your blog hit its peak: probably just did, I've been getting notes every day on my symptom tracker printables and I haven't even been on here really since I posted that. what made you decide to get a Tumblr: so way way way way back in the day I went to art school and my set lighting prof told us to get on tumblr to easily host our portfolio. so I got my first tumblr in April 2010, but didn't really use it until July when I made friends on YouTube/Blogtv do you get asks on a daily basis: No, but I would love to! I can't guarantee how fast I will answer, because I DO have a business to run, but ask away! what are you doing tomorrow: According to my planner I'm writing the second third of my lessons for my Rocking Evernote course, working on organizing my pictures, planning blog posts for Doubled Visions, trying to talk my mom into purging digital photos that are crap so she can just enjoy the good ones, and hopefully doing some shit for this blog. :D Mostly though I'll be writing lessons. Or wait it's 5:30 am so technically that's the plan for today. TOMORROW I'll still be writing lessons, and also working on purging hella old backups and setting up my new Mac installation. Hopefully on the hard drive my mom is cleaning off to loan me, rather than the partition it's currently on on my backups hard drive. Oh! and if I can get my windows laptop to cooperate I'll be working on moving all my music and audiobooks into the cloud so I can FINALLY sync my phone again. My Spotify trial runs out this week and I'm going to fucking lose it if I can't listen to Halsey & The Adam Ezra Group and the new Panic! album whenever I want. :/ I'm not going to tag anyone because I don't really have time, but I strongly encourage everyone who follows me to do this and tag me in it.

I'm working on a post explaining why I haven't been active here lately, but the short version is I'm in full time hustle mode with my business + sick as usual but with cool new even more unfun symptoms too, so I haven't had time to study let alone blog about it. disabledblr list will be updated asap. this time for sure!!
I'm up sick so naturally I cleaned my desk at 3am
Clean your room - or at least your desk/bed/floor. It will help your head to feel clear too.
Open your curtains & windows - fresh air and natural light can do wonders in my experience. Plus, it helps regulate your sleep, appetite, and mood.
Take a shower or have a bath - especially important if you haven’t had one in a while. This will help you feel refreshed.
Put on clean clothes - and put the clothes you were wearing in the wash.
If you tend to spend all your time in your room, get out of it for a bit - do something in the kitchen or lounge, or go for a walk (even if it’s just around the block)
Stretch - there are plenty of stretching and yoga videos on you tube. Look some up and give them a go.
Drink a glass of water - and keep one near you too. I’m sure you already know this, but staying hydrated is important.
Get the hard/important tasks out of the way while you have the energy - when we have mental illness, running out of energy early in the day is very normal. Try to get all the most important things done first.
Have some comfort food, but make sure you eat healthy too - it’s alright to eat something you like, but have some fruit and vegetables too. If you don’t like plain fruit, consider making a smoothie instead.
Set some goals - it doesn’t matter how small or big they are (eg. have 3 meals today, go for a walk in the afternoon), whether they are daily or weekly, but achieving goals can make you feel as though you have accomplished something.
And finally, remember that it is okay to have bad days - bad days don’t mean you’ve lost all progress in your recovery, and they don’t make you worthless or a bad person. Don’t give up just because you’ve had a bad day/week/etc. It’s okay to have days that don’t go so great. Stay strong xx

"To reiterate" is good for repeating too, especially in persuasive essays.
Welcome to the Pirate Bay of science.
A researcher in Russia has made more than 48 million journal articles - almost every single peer-reviewed paper every published - freely available online. And she’s now refusing to shut the site down, despite a court injunction and a lawsuit from Elsevier, one of the world’s biggest publishers.
For those of you who aren’t already using it, the site in question is Sci-Hub, and it’s sort of like a Pirate Bay of the science world. It was established in 2011 by neuroscientist Alexandra Elbakyan, who was frustrated that she couldn’t afford to access the articles needed for her research, and it’s since gone viral, with hundreds of thousands of papers being downloaded daily. But at the end of last year, the site was ordered to be taken down by a New York district court - a ruling that Elbakyan has decided to fight, triggering a debate over who really owns science.
“Payment of $32 is just insane when you need to skim or read tens or hundreds of these papers to do research. I obtained these papers by pirating them,”Elbakyan told Torrent Freak last year. “Everyone should have access to knowledge regardless of their income or affiliation. And that’s absolutely legal.”
If it sounds like a modern day Robin Hood struggle, that’s because it kinda is. But in this story, it’s not just the poor who don’t have access to scientific papers - journal subscriptions have become so expensive that leading universities such as Harvard and Cornell have admitted they can no longer afford them. Researchers have also taken a stand - with 15,000 scientists vowing to boycott publisher Elsevier in part for its excessive paywall fees.
In case you don’t feel like going through the entire article, here are some important points:
Researcher in Russia thinks it’s stupid to pay so much for articles
makes own site with pirated articles
it really is hella expensive to read articles
Big publishers are rlly mad
they brought up a lawsuit
The researchers don’t actually get any of the money from the fees required to read the article
Also the publishers have questionable processes that promote rapid publication that could easily result in misinformation
It’s unlikely that the lawsuit will result in money even if the company wins
but the suit has implications for the accessibility of information and the role of large corporations in restricting access to articles
To reiterate: Researchers get NO money from articles they publish. Neither do the people who provide peer review to help avoid shitty research being published. The publishers are charging $30+ each (sometimes for 24hrs access, not even a version you can save/print) plus the millions they get from libraries for their “value added” like layout, formatting, and server space.
Further highlights (emphasis mine):
[E]xperts are predicting will win Elsevier around $750 to $150,000 for each pirated article. Even at the lowest estimations, that would quickly add up to millions in damages.
Takin’ no shit:
“I think Elsevier’s business model is itself illegal,” she told Torrent Freak, referring to article 27 of the UN Declaration of Human Rights, which states that "everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits"…. “If Elsevier manages to shut down our projects or force them into the darknet, that will demonstrate an important idea: that the public does not have the right to knowledge,” she said.
Summary: Alexandra Elbakyan for queen of science!
Tip I got from a friend of mine: If you can get the researcher's contact info, many will be happy to just email you their article, on account of they wouldn't get anything from you paying for it. Obviously be polite and not demanding when you ask, and I've never tried it myself because ANXIETY, but this is a research friend I trust so I feel okay sharing despite lack of first hand testing.
one of the least helpful things ive been told as a neurodivergent person is “don’t half ass things”
if you can quarter ass something, do it! if all you can do is clean a corner of your room, or only read one of the two assigned chapters, or write the heading for your resume, or put all the papers for taxes in a pile, do it! if today isn’t a whole ass day, take pride in the portion of ass that you were capable of
don’t let neurotypicals work ethic define how you did today
I love your symptom tracker printable. Thanks for being such and amazing human.
aaah! THANK YOU and you're welcome!
I'm having a bad flareup and I haven't slept since yesterday and I have so much to do today this isn't even everything I just ran out of scheduling time (◉_◉)
