They're not addressing his grief because he's not addressing it. He didn't just lose a friend; he lost his best friend and moral compass. I know because the same thing happened to me once.

When I was 16, my best friend died. She was my moral compass. For four months, I became an entirely different person. I forgot who I was without her.

Eventually, I faced the fact that she was gone, and I'd have to learn how to live my life without her. (We had been friends literally since we were born.) I remembered who I was and broke the bad habits I'd acquired. But it wasn't easy. Grief can turn you inside out.

can we please for the love of god start giving bucky the same treatment we gave maya lopez/echo when it comes to amputation and prosthetics? can we talk about him being disabled and the disruption to daily life? can we not dismiss it because he has a high-tech-from-wakanda-vibranium arm that makes him essentially able bodied in comparison to many real life amputees? even in thunderbolts* HE GOT HIS FUCKING ARM TAKEN AWAY like yeah its to show how strong sentry is blah blah blah but that’s his fucking limb it’s no difference than had he ripped yelena’s arm off. that’s a part of his body and even though it was brief he had to be without it. as a disabled person being disabled is so traumatic even when it’s something that seems like it doesn’t change much about your day-to-day life. can we stop ignoring that he has that.

personally one of my biggest issues is remembering how I used to be able bodied. I used to be capable. I’m not anymore. I would LOVE to dive into bucky reminiscing pre-WS when his body organic and not in any way impaired. He didn’t have to worry about his arm being taken away as punishment (tfatws) or glitching or anything like that. because it wasn’t removable and it wasn’t reliant on computer parts.

I would love to see more fic readers try out the idea of his arm being akin to daredevil’s glasses—something he doesn’t always wear in the privacy of his own home. (something he doesn’t go to sleep with! i can’t imagine that arm is comfortable if you’re a side sleeper.) Like the dishwasher scene in TB* it’s something he has to occasionally clean separately (dishwasher seemed like too much but lowk i giggled at it too)

There's a piece of advice given to writers: Never use a word in your writing that you wouldn't say out loud. It's good advice. Don't use fancy vocabulary words just to sound smart if that's not how you talk. Don't use slang you're not familiar with. I think we can take it a step further...

If you were in a real relationship with a guy who had a prosthetic arm, would you ever, in a million years, call his other hand his "flesh hand"?

Be honest with yourself.

Because I'm pretty fucking sure he'd break up with you immediately if you ever said the phrase out loud around him.

It's gross, it's weird, and it's fetishy in a really bad way.

A human being with a limb difference does not need to have language like this used about him, so don't do it to a fictional character. You wouldn't do it in real life, so don't do it in your fanfiction. Just call it his right hand. It's that easy.

I'm a little disappointed they ripped the posters to reveal the new title "The New Avengers". It should have been "Thunderbolts*: Friendship is Magic".
