haven’t read the book yet so can’t speak on it fully, but i do think rhaena’s inability to totally control sheepstealer speaks to the shows themes. try as you might to totally assert your will over others… sometimes you just can’t.

if it is true that in the books (i’m only up to storm of swords) the dragon-rider bond is totally inexorable…. right from the get go with no learning curve…that’s kinda lame to me. in both asoiaf and fire and blood (it seems) many characters who have sworn solemn oaths to abide by highly spiritual and stringent codes struggle to do so all the time due to their base impulses as human beings. it would make sense to me that dragons would reflect this struggle… you can train the shit out of them but they still have instincts and needs.

our inability to totally conquer nature is also a broader theme in medieval literature at large so…. i like the choice. i’d say i loved the episode if i could actually see the dragons in question but that’s for another day
