There seem to be a lot of people who don’t understand why Lobo was in the movie, so I’m just gonna say it: Lobo is who Kara is at risk of becoming.
Kara is at a crossroads, and one road leads towards Clark and one leads to Lobo. Or rather, one path leads to embracing the responsibility of the life and powers her parents gave her, and the other is continuing to drink her life away, not caring about anything or anyone but her and hers.
Lobo is immensely powerful, and the last of his planet. Just like Kara. And when we meet him, he’s passed out drunk in a bar, oblivious and uncaring of violence and exploitation around him. Just like Kara was trying to be when she first met Ruthye.
Lobo is Kara’s future if she gives up on trying to be good. Drunkenly stumbling through the galaxy not helping anyone or anything and only caring about herself. Maybe not mindlessly cruel, but not kind or good or caring of the pain of the people around her.
It’s why they both get Ruthye’s spiel, it’s why Lobo’s whole introduction mirrors what Kara was just doing demanding to know about the Brigands, it’s why they’re both “the ditz from the bar”, it’s why they both have the gag with the space suit collar.
It’s why Lobo crops up each time Ruthye and Kara are faced with choices, sometimes acting as a devil on their shoulders, sometimes just a big lurking ominous warning of their bleak future if they make the wrong choices. It’s why Lobo says “let Ruthye have her revenge”, uncaring of how the violence might haunt Ruthye for the rest of her life. He’s a big constant reminder why Kara cannot let this thirteen year old girl be consumed by violence, and of who her parents didn’t want her to be.
Lobo is Kara’s foil and shadow.
I don’t think the movie always executed this well, it could have been done better, but I don’t think it was subtle either. The parallels between Kara and Lobo are right there in every scene and always highlight the choices Kara makes to be kind, and I do wish people would take the time to actually think about them before writing Lobo’s presence off.

A thing I really appreciate about supergirl is that Kara is never shown to be pretty. Yeha she is pretty regardless because they casted milly fucking alcock but the never show her to be put together. They let her be messy. They let her be rude. They let her fuck up. Every time we see strong confident women in media they are always wearing the tightest bodysuit and look beautiful even when they have been beaten to shit. Not here. Every scene Kara is in she looks like a car had run over her. And they don't "transform" her and make her look prettier by the end to show that she has started to heal. Nah they keep her like that and they change how she acts. I love supergirl.
I just love how Supergirl isn't really about the revenge or the dog or anything that goes on at all. Its about two grieving girls trying to keep going in diffrent ways and teaching each other how to survive with the weight of it all while also inspiring each other to be better people. Its about not letting your past overtake your future. Its about prioritizing yourself instead of being fuled by your trauma. Its about being good no matter what.
Yes, these are all their canon fears, though, I'm giving them a bit of reasoning behind them that wasn't necessarily expounded on in canon. Call them my headcanon explanations.
I suppose you could make the argument Dream got over his fear of storms since it was only ever shown in his childhood, but I think he continues to dislike them due to just how loud they are. Involuntary reaction rather than an actual held 'fear' any longer.
Dream is vegetarian in canon, yes yes. He loves animals.
Dream's canon birthday is December 21, but that's our time and our world. What would it actually be in universe? I'm not sure. I don't think he'd ever know. Just another addition to his timeless nature.
Inverse to being called a child, when he tells people his actual age, sometimes they treat him like he's super old as a joke. This also sometimes translate over to fandom discussions too, where people will also call Dream an old man when talking about him.
I would stand to argue Dream is actually pretty young in terms of mentality. Though his canon took place over the course of many years, and I could tell you approximately the timeline we have, at the point he gets his second outfit, I can't reasonably place him as anything higher than the human equivalent of in his twenties. I am of the belief his original story was effectively a coming of age story. We've mostly skipped over that, because I find his later explorations through the multiverse more interesting. We'll go back to when he was younger, too, but not right now. Ink shares an actually incredibly similar dilemma. He is also in his twenties, but he just kind of... spawned in, in his twenties, and also doesn't age. What fun with the two ageless immortals.
I still don't actually know how readily Ink can read scripts. The specifics aren't exactly explained all that thoroughly. Let's just keep saying he can...... and not quote me on that.
I also like to think Ink makes a bunch of references to media in our world. As though he knows the popular memes and /refs that creators make. He starts to catch on to them, starts to reference them himself.
