Yeah, I get that. I really hope none of them end up doing something crazy. But, if I remember correctly, a lot of that stuff I did at that age really didn’t seem all that crazy to me at the time.

Yeah, but it took a lot of therapy and alcohol to be as well adjusted as I am. They should be okay as long as they don’t kill too many brain cells taking prescriptions that aren’t for them.

Therapy is good. Alcohol too if all parties are of age. I know, most of them will be fine. But it's hard not to worry about there just being one who isn't, you know?

Unfortunately it’s very real. When kids have access to money and medicine cabinets, it happens. You can tell them about how dangerous it is, but you know how it is. They think they’re invincible when they’re 16/17.

Oh yeah. I know how that goes first hand. I was pretty immortal when I was their age too, so I get it. I just hope that none of them make a fatal mistake before they realize their own mortality. Life is short, but it shouldn’t be that short.

I didn’t realize that abuse of prescription medication was such a problem, for my fellow students. Our parents, maybe…but that’s probably a big source of the pills.

Yes it is. They’re easily accessible and not always monitored. It’s very dangerous.

Adderall? Does this message count for everyone or just students? Why would someone take any kind of medication that requires a prescription if they’re not sick?

Are there signs I should be looking for?

No one should be taking anything that wasn’t prescribed to them. It could be very dangerous. Drugs like Adderall allow students to get a lot of work done (like papers, studying, etc) a lot easier. Plus your prescription painkillers are generally for feeling good, getting high.

Best thing you can do is keep an eye our for any strange behavior. It’s hard. They aren’t stupid. They know how to hide it.

I’m sure that many of the other kids in this school take many more and worse types of “medicine” Nurse Pierce. People in this school are ridiculous.

Prescription drugs aren’t safer or better just because they’re prescription. They’re just as dangerous. And abused at a much higher rate in affluent areas, which I think we can all agree Cheltenham is. If you have any other information, though, I’m happy to hear it.

Health Reminder of the Week:

Adderall is not “a vitamin” and should not be taken unless prescribed to you by your physician.

If you come to my office with a headache and I ask if you’ve taken anything, don’t tell me “you know, vitamins” and list at least three things that come with a prescription, none of which are on file. You will not be pleased with the outcome. I will not be pleased with the paperwork I have to fill out. Cut it out with the pills.

It’s been one of those weeks. And it’s only Wednesday.
