What do I do when I join? The invite link will take you to the #rules channel. Skim over those and then go to #introductions to introduce yourself. After that head to #bot-channel to add pronoun and age roles (both required) as well as any teams you want to represent! (details for adding roles are in rule #10) Once you add your roles, you’ll be able to see the whole server!

Before all of this happened NWSL said that they would stream their games on twitch do you know if that is still happening with the season being pushed back and starting unexpectedly. Thanks

I may be wrong here, but the plan was for the nwsl 2020 season to be on CBS All Access and international viewers would be able to watch on Twitch. As for the tournament, Canadian and US viewers will be able to watch on CBS All Access. There is a one week free trial and then it only costs $6/month, which will cover the whole tournament only for $6. International viewers WILL be able to watch on Twitch. As for cost for the NWSL Twitch, I’m not sure if/what the price will be. I DO know that if there is a cost, it is believed to be included with an Amazon Prime subscription, if you have that, so be sure to sign up for twitch through Amazon Prime. 

This is detailed in the official announcement and Lisa Baird (NWSL Commissioner) re-confirmed international viewers can watch on Twitch here.

can you explain the format of the champion cup? i'm a little confused about the whole 8 teams proceed to the knockout round and the group stage is a lottery draw? why is everyone freaking out about that?

All 9 teams will participate but only 8 will move on to the single-elimination quarterfinal-style part. So essentially, there will be 3 groups of 3 teams. Each team will play the other 2 teams in their group twice. Then, the 8 teams with the best record out of the 9 (whoever has the most wins, then if there’s a tie whoever out of those teams has the most goals, then best goal differential, and so on) will move onto quarterfinals, then semifinals based on who wins those games, then the final. It’ll be similar to how the world cup was, with group stages except they’ll play each other twice instead of once, and then they’ll move straight into the quarterfinal stages and continue as normal. 

As for why everyone is freaking out, I don’t know, I try not to speculate or provide opinions on this blog. I know some people are worried about playing in such a short turnaround on turf (only a few days between each game), but the players are given the full authority to choose whether or not play in the tournament with no repercussions. Some people think that it is unfair that the 9th team will only get to play a couple games and the be out of it for the rest of the tournament, but in all honesty, I don’t see how else they would do it.

Update: Some people may not hear from the reps about season tickets quite so soon. A lot of clubs have had to furlough/lay off big percentages of their front office staff. Be patient and check your club’s season tickets or FAQ pages for more information. (source, source)

Update 2: Players who have already been contracted for the 2020 NWSL season WILL get salaries, housing, and benefits (including insurance for the 2020 calendar year) even if they choose to opt out of the tournament. As of now, there are no known repercussions for opting out. This helps the NWSL stand out from most other sports leagues right now: the choice is play or don’t play, not get paid or don’t get paid.
