Lucas had gone for a swim almost as soon as they arrived, as this was the one “outdoorsy” activity with which he was remotely familiar. Dunking under the surface of the water, he swam back toward shore, rising up with water streaming down his chest and shoulders. “The water feels excellent,” he commented, walking toward his towel. “I would recommend taking a dip.”

“Oh, wow! Look at you, Senator!” Nadia shouted, giggling as other girls watched him get out of the lake, admiring. They looked at Nadia, made a face and left. Nadia just laughed, throwing Lucas a towel. “I thought that would get them to leave you alone. Where’s your big shot security when you need it, huh?”

“God damn it,” Finn muttered irritably as he pushed a wayward tree branch out of his path. “You’d think these paths would be kept a little better, huh? I was expecting a scenic view, not just…” he looked around at the towering trees, “foliage.”

Nadia giggled, shaking her head. “That’s because you’re so tall, kid. There aren’t many perks of being short, but this is one of ‘em.” She said, shrugging.

Dylan shrugged at her assumption. “Call me what you want. I’m just a realist who’s seen too much to believe in shit like that anymore.Your life is what you decide to do with it, not what some phony tells you it is. If it helps any, I think everyone is cursed in some way or another, but not because some higher supernatural power made it that way.”

Nadia smiled at the realist comment and chuckled. “I know what you mean. I’ve seen some shit, too. It’s hard to believe in anything after you go through things like that, things that…rock you upside down.” She spoke, honestly. “I don’t think it’s supernatural power either. It’s just..what it is.” She looked up and narrowed her eyes slightly. “So, what have you seen?”

“Try me. Dude she could have said that shit to literally anyone. You’re just gullible enough to believe it. It’s the same as reading a vague ass horoscope that tells you you’re going to see some good luck this week or some shit. You believe it because you want to. None of it is real.”

Nadia smiled, shaking her head. “Wow. You’re quite chipper, aren’t you?” She laughed, sighing. “Whether or not she was real doesn’t really matter, though. It’s true no matter what. My life is pretty cursed and blessed at the same time whether I like it or not. Probably more cursed than not.” She said, sighing, biting down on her lip. She looked up though at him. “I don’t think you’d want to hear about that, though.”
