As someone who pays for Under the Oak Tree on Webnovel and Manta, it upsets me knowing that there’s people who are coming up with excuses to still support the illegal translations and distributions. It’s a matter or paying, being patient or just not participating in enjoying any of it. If you cannot pay for Webnovel, or are too impatient to wait for any updates on Manta, then I guess you’ve lucked out because clearly you’re not willing to support the creator and the creator’s work legally without jeopardizing the continuation of Under the Oak Tree in the name of cheap thrills.

In light of the recent controversy of Kim Suji’s blog post expressing her frustration and anger over the illegal translations of her work Under the Oak Tree, I just want to share to you a computation of approximately how much we pay per every chapter, for your guidance 😅🥸🤓
On Ridibooks, every chapter costs 100 won, or 0.083 USD. That’s the korean raw, which comes out every Tues and Fri.
On Webnovel, every chapter costs 0.1816 USD. This is the official English translation.
(This is an approximation only, based on the price of 9.99 USD per 500 coins, and assuming every chapter costs 9 coins, so the price could actually be cheaper)
This also does not consider that every day you can unlock two chapters for free by watching two video ads. So if you’re extremely patient, you can probably read the whole thing for free, maybe in six months or so.
I did this computation just so i can see how much it will cost me haha. This is me while I was making my computation:
Admittedly, the amount on Webnovel is twice the price from Ridibooks. However, this is also considering the costs for translation and hosting of the novel that is easily accessible for foreigners. I have read the korean raws in Ridibooks by translating it through Google/Papago and I tell you it’s not a pleasant reading experience (although after reading many chapters my brain kind of adjusted haha).
I just want to say that the novel is so worth it, but I also understand how it can be so costly. All the same, I feel sad that the author is pushed up to this point just to protect her intellectual property, and we have to respect her wishes with how she’ll be moving forward with her work.
I don’t want this masterpiece to end, though.
The author of Under the oak tree said that they will finish season 2 of the novel but will not write the side stories or the stories of the side character or even riftan's stories due to illegal release and translation (both dometic and abroad).
