mon amour. thoughts of you scatter through my mind, even when it is heavy with all the worries of yesterday, slowly summoning the pain of tomorrow. just the thought of you changes my perspective and lightens my burden. from the late-night conversations we will share to the secret glances, and the moments when my biggest win will be our fingers grazing. from sharing the best of our memories to holding each other at our lowest. it's the darkest part of the night, my heart heavy with all the pain, yet hopeful for what will come. look at me and understand... i have written many versions of our story. my favourite one is yet to come.

even if every day is the same, no fascinating moments or shocking events. even when my heart refuses to beat wildly at the things i once loved, heartbreak. even though the journey lacks any form of lighting, a dark road. and even though i cannot quite reach the dawn that's spoken so highly off, a dream on the distant horizon. even with the heavy climb and endless journey. look at me and understand... i can hope. the sun is rising.

to the omens and signs. i never want to be overly religious. superstitious. i never want to believe too much in odd beliefs washed up. and by now, passed down without a clear meaning. i never want to tie myself to a specific bird or the strange movement of a body part. it could be nothing. i never want to trust in luck or a personified universe. superstitions. look at me and understand... never say never. some times, i crave a little luck and those small signs from the universe. whoever that is.

if wishes were horses, beggars would ride. so we've been told. so that we don't dare to wish. dream big, feel too much. we're deemed beggars. small, irrelevant. incapable of soaring. being anything. the beggars in life made to walk miles while princes ride for amusement. entertainment. we work centuries for what they receive in a moment. living life with one talent, but we won't bury it in the ground. look at me and understand... if wishes were horses, beggars would ride. so we've been told, but who wants a horse anyway...

to be a child in strong warm arms. my little head laying comfortably on a sharp shoulder. my arms spread out, dangling, gripping with a sleepy might. my mind a journey of thoughts, like clouds and pure rivers of milk. my soft sighs like music, a rhythm that keeps me at peace. a cozy warmth that fills eyes with tears. a moment too perfect for words. a calm too trusting to be comprehended. laying asleep with no cares, scares or nightmares. the only time I felt okay. look at me and understand... to be a child in strong warm arms.

in a blue moon, my writing is like a dying flower. i watch it grow, and water it. how did it dry out. i place it in the golden sun, all the warmth it can desire. light shines and gives me hope. i watch it grow, and water it. how did it wither. i find a beautiful pot for it, i plucked it out. i want it near me, to see its beauty. i watch it grow, and water it. how did it die. my heart shatters at the sight of it in my hand. it's been saddened. all I did was love it. in a blue moon, my writing is like a dying flower. look at me and understand... but it is still here.

my heart is the ghost in my room. it shares my pain and hopes with me. when the sun goes down, taking life with it, i lay down. eyes closed. heart beating. i hardly dream, i barely see the things i desire or fear. i just lay there and listen. my heart drums a story. it forces me to envision the life my mind sometimes drifts off to. does that prove its existence. it feels real, my desires that is. or are they disguised fears. my heart is the ghost in my room, and it tells me everything. a fortune teller. it shares my pain and hopes with me. and i just lay down. eyes closed. heart beating. look at me and understand... i hope, and my heart hopes with me.

how did i not notice how beautiful the flowers are. how they differ in colour, swaying in the wind. growing in the oddest places. how is it that i never noticed how the wind blows. the secrets it carries from one corner of the earth to the next. the smell of rain from the furthest parts. how did i not see the sky. the stories it tells from up above. how the clouds seek out too much attention sometimes, and how the different lights make a colourful spotlight for the sky. my attention on you. how is it that i found this song late. its melodies calming a part of me that once wept to sleep in silence. my heart feels the connection. and how then is it that i still haven't met you. though my heart longs for you without quite knowing your face. how i'm reminded of you in all the love songs i hear. all the memories we're yet to share. i patiently sit back and wait, our story will be so beautiful. look at me and understand... how did i not notice how beautiful the flowers are. they too, remind me of you.

looking back at where i’ve come, i feel a small shiver that makes me wonder how i've outlived all my most painful moments. moments i was sure i'd never survive, yet here i am telling the very tale. being the lead in my story is a childhood dream locked away with the castles, magic wands, and a prince charming that comforted me and made the future a place i longed to be. but the more my days stretch on in this life, i am pushed into a realisation of my place as a secondhand character of little importance. holding on tightly to the nostalgic nothingness and numbness of my sad story. every night, i sit still wondering if i, too, can chase the stars and live to boast about it. and every time i'm at war with myself, i realise that it might not look it or feel it. but i always win. look at me and understand... looking back at where i'm coming from, i turn to look ahead because that's where i plan to stay.

a thousand thoughts in my head. how do i carry on. how do i move forward. i'm like a little stream that goes down a hill. into the ocean it goes, then transforms into more little streams. i find myself thinking thoughts that lead to a much bigger flow. the process continues, on and on, till the ocean dries. but i don't want that. how do i carry on. how do i move forward. look at me and understand... in another life, maybe i can be, a bird set free.
