The Polyphonic Spree

Do you remember that band, The Polyphonic Spree?

Let me jog your memory. They are a band of roughly 20 members, all dressed in white robes, playing jangly indie-rock on an array of brass and woodwind instruments, in addition to the more rock instruments.

They had that song "Light and Day," a fantastic single that blew them the hell up in 2003. They'll be in town this coming Wednesday...(cheap tickets ALERT!) ...

After doing a little research, I figured out that The Polyphonic Spree has had a total of 52 members (21 presently) which kinda got me thinking...

And so I wrote them this email.

This band is so fantastic. They're from Canada. They're really nice. They're exceptional live. Their records are so good. I lurve them.

They're playing at Mercury Lounge in Manhattan on May 25th and in Brooklyn at Glasslands on May 26th. Go see this band, though. That's my recommendation.

Fascinating and Morbid

Right, so what you're about to watch is one of the darkest videos I've ever seen.

There's not a whole lot to say, except that sometimes when you lurk on the internet, you discover stuff you wish you hadn't seen. And despite regretting your inability to unsee whatever abomination you've just witnessed, it is basically impossible to resist the urge to show people. So enjoy.

The Used are pretty intense for a band with such a squeaky vocalist. If this video got your juices flowing, go check em out at Irving Plaza (formerly the Fillmore) this coming Monday.

Jack White Vrules Again

When Elephant came out in 2003, it rocked my middle school world harder than anything ever. Elephant was the record I blasted with my friends on the first summer we were allowed to go sprawl out in the park without grownups around. Elephant was the first record I smoked to. I even literally have a small (awful) White Stripes tattoo. Don't judge, I'm just being emphatic. But it's true.

By the time the White Stripes were releasing their next (final) two records, I had moved on to obsessing about other stuff, but I have always loved Jack White and held his other endeavors in varying, but highish regard. It's almost impossible not to mention his recent collaboration with ICP , but even that silliness totally amused me.

It is, however, safe to say that it's been nearly a decade since Jack White released something that blew my mind up. ... until this:

Yeah, not that bad at all.

Things worth noting:

Jack White is doing a "blue" thing. He looks a little worse for the wear in a very "authentic musician" kind of way. His new record got a 7.8 on pitchfork, who published an extremely boring article about the record. His backup band in this video is extremely steamy. Oh and tickets to his May 22nd show at Roseland Ballroom are gonna put you back between 200 and 900 bucks.
