Vixen #1 by Khary Randolph
EVERYONE SHUT THE FUCK UP
SHUT THE FUCK UP IT'S HAPPENING
EDIT: art by Khary Randolph
Did you see that they announced at comiccon we'll be getting a Vixen ongoing by Stephanie Williams and a static ongoing by Cody ziglar !!
YESSSS AHKLDSGBDGS AHH!!!! It's so exciting & I'm really glad DC is hiring Black creatives as well!!!!!!! KLNKJGBFKSJ like this has the potential to be soooo good & I really hope the best for both series!!!! I hope sales go through the roof and DC invests in more & more Black characters & creatives and that this is just the beginning!
society has progressed past the need for tom king
for the record, this isn't about his books being shit or not. the quality of his writing has no bearing on this opinion. this is about king being former cia and still proud of it. i know i put it in a meme format, so let me be very clear, i mean it when i say: there never was and there never will be a need for tom king. he's not a good person

Incase you were curious, here are some Riverdale Jughead ships I actually like (all qpr or a secret third thing)
Tabitha and Jughead were great. They needed to end up together. The last season handled her so weird as she was a great addition to the cast in season 5 and 6. Really wish we got the og storyline to see her franchise Pops with Alexandra.
Tamara Fox, I'll always mourn how DC dropped the ball with you 😭
She was such a cool girlfriend and also a character
Seriously, I wish she'd be reintroduced as a side character at least. I love the fox family, and they feel wasted
Regarding Betty's love interest have you heard of Dex, a love interest introduced near the end of Betty and Me. His story is well......
I will add I do apprecciate they gave her consistent black interest since then. https://old.reddit.com/r/archiecomics/comments/1uj2xb5/betty_consistently_having_a_black_love_interest/
But as a black fan I will say Trev is dissapointing as a love interest for Betty. Like aside from the fact he has no real character being real (He's Valerie's BROTHER but we have no idea of their dynamic and he has no dynamic with anyone or quirks). And that ties into his relationship with Betty. The two of them have no chemistry. We don't know why they like each other (especially for Betty to be so over Archie so quickly and they don't even use the Adam angle of he treats her better than Archie), what habits they have in common, what they do on dates, etc. Even in the original story in Archie Marries Valerie Betty ended up soley defined by her relationship with Trev. Like at least Archie and Valerie did things like open a school for kids based on their shared love of Music, Veronica joined the Pussycats while also having a thing with Alexander and also struggling to get over Archie. The only thing we saw with Trev and Betty was him replacing Archie in the Archies (Valerie's brother being good at music....so creative) and even then that became about their relationship with the only thing being told is how the audience likes him and Betty's chemistry and then the Archies disband because Betty and Trev elope.........Glad the story exists for Betty to have a black love interest fully but the way they wanted to give it the same weight as Archie and Valerie didn't work.
Hi!! I have not heard of Dex but I agree with your take on Trev and Betty’s relationship. I tend to stick to the Pep Squad for Betty ships but I do casually enjoy some others, and Trevetty is one of them. I would take him over Adam any day tbh, tho Adam does make a fun rival for Archie. I think the problem is that, like you said, they aren’t given much substance. They’re just kinda propped up as an alternative, healthy ship for Betty that we’re supposed to root for solely on the basis of “they’re cute.” They both like music, and they get very flustered around each other, but there’s not a whole not to explore there. I like my Archie ships to have conflict so I find it hard to get super invested in them
I love that Betty has such a notable black love interest but with what they’ve been given so far, the writers do veer dangerously close to the disposable black love interest trope. From what I’ve read, I haven’t seen much of Trev outside of his relationship with Betty, which is a problem. Valarchie avoids this (except in Riverdale. Sigh) because Valerie is a lead character in her own comic. Archie is as much a crossover love interest for her as she is for him. Even if he doesn’t “choose” her, that’s sort of okay because he’s not the most important thing in her life. Trev kinda disappears if he’s not with Betty. I would love to see some solo stories that center him, and especially more of his relationship with Valerie. He could be a really cool addition to the Pussycats cast. I’d also like to see more friction in his relationship with Betty, something to give them depth beyond being cute. I still like what we’ve seen of them but the writers could certainly do more with their relationship, and with Trev’s character
I will use this as an excuse to share my take that if modern writers REALLY care as much about diversity as they claim, Chuck and Nancy should make more appearances. Put them with the main gang instead of Kevin or Midge & Moose. Lots of ship potential to be unlocked there as well (as long as they ultimately end up with each other bcuz we need more black couples in media)
Regarding Trev and Betty, I agree it's hard to root for and be invested with them due to how little they are given (I prefer Dex over him tbh)and with Trev at least they let Betty marry him to show it was serious. Funny with regards to Trev and fleshing him out and making him a fun addition to the Pussycats I've actually thought about this. Like aside from using him and Valerie to contrast with Alexander and Alexandra one Archie Encyclopedia (never said in the comics go figure) says Trev wants to be a composer and thinks music can tell a story without lyrics and be meaningful. You could use this to show how he and Valerie differ in their approach to music or it creates some frustration for him as people don't take his music as seriously as Valerie's because it has no words. Using this I also thought this could give him a cute/interesting dynamic with Melody given how she's someone isn't the best at expressing herself with words but can do so non-verbally with music/melodies as shown here
(which lead to me commissioning this from Dan Parent)
I had never considered this ship before but I automatically support it. They are my babies now
I have a very creative mind when it comes to Archie...
THESE ARE SO CUTE WAHHHHH

I'm a Barchie guy and have been for a while and still want to be but I admit lately I am re-evaluating my like for them as in some of older stories Betty and Me or Life with Archie, a lot of the times Archie comes across as a real scoundrel in how he treats Betty to the point i;m thinking he doesn't deserve her at all and she deserves way better such as these https://old.reddit.com/r/archiecomics/comments/1ndrax3/this_story_makes_archie_come_across_as_really_not/ https://old.reddit.com/r/archiecomics/comments/1t28xbg/a_perfect_match_betty_and_me_154/
I understand this tbh, as a Betty fan I absolutely get how Archie can be frustrating sometimes
Personally though, I am a fan of toxic ships/ships with that kind of conflict. I wouldn’t necessarily call Barchie toxic, but like…the other fandom I’m into at the time is Interview with the Vampire, so I feel that it would be a little hypocritical of me to draw the line at Barchie lol. Ofc tho, that’s just me, a lot of people don’t like ships where one of them treats the other poorly. I do however feel that it’s hard to find a Betty ship where that isn’t a thing, at least among the main cast. Veronica is usually the first option but she arguably treats Betty worse than Archie, she can’t let Betty have one good thing for herself without trying to one-up her. And I don’t think that would go away if they both left Archie. Reggie is also sometimes written with the same gag as Archie where he ignores Betty for Veronica or gets annoyed with her. Even Jughead, who is generally on her side, can get annoyed with her easily the way the others do. Jason and Cheryl are both kind of terrors to her (Jason admittedly less-so). I guess Trev and Adam are both innocent but again, I like ships with conflict
When I think of Barchie, I tend to think of them ending up together later in life. People might flame me for this but I like the way Riverdale did it (and the movie To Riverdale and Back Again), with them liking each other in high school but not working things out until they find their way back to each other in their 20s. I think they need some time apart to find themselves individually, mainly so that Betty can develop better confidence and self-respect. And ofc so Archie can grow into less of an asshole. I just can’t see these two marrying right out of high school (if ever)
Hi, I just wanted to say, I hope I wasn't too negative. I was asking as you know a lot about Archie and are a Betty fan and wanted to get your perspective and I didn't intend or like try to change your mind. In fact I recently discovered this story which really is heartwarming for it. And at the end of the day Archie comics aren't really that serious
since I ship timsteph im homophobic and anti bisexual Tim drake, and a batcester, also MTDSA (make Tim drake straight again!)
