Black Comic Alliance Announces Stage 2: DCBlackout, Escalating Calls for Structural Change at DC Comics
The Black Comic Alliance, the collective of content creators behind the viral #DCSoWhite campaign, has officially announced Stage 2 of its advocacy movement: DCBlackout, a coordinated protest calling on readers, supporters, and content creators to withhold financial support and pause content creation tied to DC Comics publishing initiatives until meaningful structural changes are made around…
TEN in FIFTY years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[ID: Text that reads: "In almost 50 years, DC has only had 10 Black ongoing series in its mainline continuity, with only 1 surpassing 50 issues, and not a single [title led by a] Black woman. They constantly blame sales, but they're playing a game with the deck stacked against us. This needs to stop," said James Portis III, also known as JPenumbra. /End ID.]
Excerpt from the article for convenience:
What DCBlackout Calls For
The DCBlackout initiative outlines several coordinated actions for supporters and participants, including:
Posting on social media and calling for DC Comics to publish 1 to 3 new ongoing series for Black heroes in its mainline continuity, led by strong Black creative teams
Canceling pull list subscriptions for DC titles, including ongoing series, miniseries, and collected editions, until a Black-led ongoing is solicited and supported
Raising awareness about how digital sales are not valued the same as preorder single issues in industry decision-making
Demanding transparent, long-term investment in Black representation across publishing
Supporting Black creators through independent and creator-owned projects
Encouraging broader industry conversations around equity, visibility, and sustainability

purple ladiesssss
steph being SIGNIFICANTLY taller than tim in absolute batman. i used to pray for times like these
A female writer — Devin Grayson — writes SA (Nightwing, Damage, Black Widow;) and everyone hates and attacks her.
A male writer — Marv Wolfman — writes SA (Nightiwing TWICE, Donna Troy, Wally West, Starfire, Terra, and perhaps more? Unsure tho I can't remember) and no one bats an eye...?
The difference between the two, aside for the gender, is probably the bad and good writing (Well MW had his bad moments but he's mostly remembered for his great NTT runs). But still, I've never seen anyone actually criticizing Devin's writing when hating her for making characters getting SA.
Now, I'm not exactly defending DG. Her takes on Dick and Bruce's relationships or Dick's characterization in general are bad (imo), she made Dick kinda the ladies man, her reasons for him to be Romani were bad and her takes on Romani people and use of slurs were also terrible. Let's not forget about the SladeDick part... Her raping characters without even calling it rape (she acknowledged this around ten years later iirc?), her characterization for female characters also wasn't the best.
But these are never even the main reasons people hate her for, most just go like "she wrote Nightwing #93" and hates her.
While for MW, I don't see as much hate? The stories ARE hated, but people barely brings up his name in all this. I'll try to make an example because I'm bad at explaining myself.
Reviews on the Nightwing/Damage/Black Widow situations: "This story is bad because ***, and it's Devin Grayson obviously..."
Reviews on Nightwing/Starfire/Donna/Wally/Terra/etc situations: "This story is bad because ***..."
Get what I mean?
DG's name is always brought up, MW's rarely.
And good gods I've seen people defending Wolfman with stuff like "it was other times" and "he apologized"...?
I rarely see people actually criticizing MW for all this stuff, but DG will get so much shit on this.
Maybe it's me reading too much into all this but idk... Just found it a little weird. And who knows maybe I just never found the criticizing comments on him.
Whenever Bernard Dowd "lovers" and defenders talk about him and how he's so great for Tim, is end game, is such a great partner, 90% is them underhandedly expressing how his character is horribly written in every shape and form and if they just change a few things(while then listing a laundry list of changes that need to be done to kind sorta make it work), it's kinda obvious they don't really like him or the ship.
Just admit you think it's hot to watch boys kiss and that's all you care about. I promise you don't have to lie to us and pretend you like the character for anything other than that.
After you admit that, also accept the fact that outside of homophobic people, the plenty other folk who don't like Bernard or the ship have EVERY REASON NOT TO.
I'm really getting tired of white fanboys/girls calling everyone bigots in some form when we don't like their bland, white bread characters just because they happen to fall under some sort of disenfranchised umbrella
Why bernard doesn't work as love interest for Tim.
The following explains why bernard so far doesn't work as a love interest for Tim.
bernard doesn't help Tim grow at all as a civilian. Tim has not developed any meaningful civilian life with bernard at all. He has not grown as a civilian or has any meaningful civilian connections. Compare to Damian who had things such as expressing liking to draw/be an artist, desire to be a doctor, volunteers at a hospital, and was shown feeling guilt for a civilian getting hurt which motivated him to want to be a doctor in the first place. Damian even has college now. Tim has had no developments with that all since bernard. He lives on a boat.....and nothing. We have no idea what he wants to do as Tim Drake or what he has rediscovered about himself as Tim Drake. He barely cares about the marina people he lives in and treats them as friendly neighbors at best. Like there is this thing about them threatening to be evicted and Tim doesn't care about that at all and them being killed doesn't weigh on him anymore than random crime victims being killed. Compare to the guilt Damian felt when a random little girl was hurt during a mission, hence spurring him to be a doctor.
I don't even need to point to Damian to contrast the lack of civilian life for Tim. During detective comics Rebirth we saw Tim expressing a desire to retire to go to college to work with the top scientific minds in the country to find a better way to help people aside from vigilantism which ties into his themes of wanting a civilian life and his altruism. And he was in a relationship with Stephanie who was encouraging and helping with that. He hasn't shown anything remotely close to that ever since being with bernard. When he retires in Batman issue 6 we have no idea what he wants to do with his life and the latest issue shows this. Fraction in interviews only talks about Tim being in love as the reason for quitting and we never get an elaboration things why he feels he has a "love that fits" with bernard...........
Another aspect of Tim is seeing how his civilian life conflicts with his personal life....which bernard doesn't do. We never see Tim being Robin interfere with bernard as bernard is always cool with it (In issue 1 when he hasn't dated Tim for a month he shows no issues with it) even when Tim frequently breaks dates and leaves and lies even after bernard was kidnapped and almost killed due to Tim being Robin. Again compare to Damian where his doctor/volunteer work was making him wonder if being Robin really is the best way to help Gotham or Tim in rebirth where he was actively putting off college due to not wanting to dissapoint Batman. It's why fraction making Tim go "oh i hate lying to bernard, so i will quit' falls short as Robin is never shown causing any real problems for Tim and bernard nor does Tim ever express guilt for lying to him before except one time in issue 2 of Tim's latest solo which is never brought up again in the series as aside from it never causing issues (in issue 2 when bernard knows Tim is lying and points it out he doesn't show any issues with it.) , Tim after that issues continues to lie about being Robin without any guilt even after Robin as I said endangers bernard. The one time there was conflict was in TDR:9 which wasn't even due to lying but bernard being asked about his trauma (which isn't even a recurring or major flaw for Tim, pushing people for answers and he wasn't even doing it that harshly, Kate was the harsh one and Tim intervened) but it ended up being narratively superflous as the next issue resolved everything without even addressing issue 9 and now it's more or less retconned. Plus it's only ONE moment and that's not enough to showcase Tim's flaws in a meaningful manner.
Tim doesn't even grow as a person as he repeated his flaw of lying to his partner under the guise of he knows best and keeping them away and continue to do so even after bernard was almost killed due to it. Tim overcame these flaws in Rebirth. The so-called resolution in TDR came from no movement on Tim just bernard coming in and saving the day and now that is retconned so there is no impetus for Tim to suddenly decide he hates lying to bernard.
bernard for a 'relationship for Tim beyond Robin' really is a relationship where the substance largely comes from Robin. Like aside from Robin is how they got together which Bernard even states in issue 3 of Tim's last solo , in the beginning of issue 7 when Bernard list why he likes Tim all the things he likes about him are reflective of his role as Robin. Like his whole trusting Tim to keep him safe, Tim being special, and Tim being his lucky charm, the examples he uses are of Tim saving him as Robin/being Robin.
Tim hasn't developed any sort of normal life since being with bernard. No college, no job, no volunteering. Nothing. It's all just dating bernard. Compare to Damian who volunteers at a hospital and studies to be a doctor or in Rebirth where Tim while with Stephanie was planning to go to college and she was helping him do so. The only "normal thing" bernard offers is just going on dates without the suit and doing normal stuff like dinner/movies.....which he was doing while with Stephanie in rebirth (again college) or stuff dick and babs do now (like movie night with Cass, Jason, and Steph). Functionally given that Tim was a full time hero with bernard what bernard offers is just going on dates and doing normal stuff....which he was doing while with Stephanie already. It's no different than Dick and Babs going to the movies or doing normal stuff for dates as well like I said.
We have no reason what so special about bernard....at least in Rebirth we saw Stephanie helping Tim apply to college and drive away the darkness of vigilante life. bernard offers nothing of the sort aside from stuff he was already doing with Stephanie nor did he come at a time when it was needed as I said he was doing fine at the end of Rebirth. This was him at the end (not to mention as I said Tim's lack of personal growth or development as Tim which he explored in rebirth):
WHAT is matt fraction playing at.
He's letting Stephanie be an actual character instead of just a prop. Anyone who enjoys that scene of Stephanie meeting bernard has ZERO respect for her character and her history with Tim.

I will NEVER like timber because it's very existence was built on biphobia and misogyny. We are allowed to be in opposite sex relationships while maintaining our sexuality.
I will also NEVER EVER accept exgirlfriends being used as props to put up the male MC's current relationship when he was dead ass wrong and did her dirty. We aren't collateral damage. We don't exist to be some guy's growing pains and cheer him on and his new relationship when we were used as such.
Just because the relationship gives queer representation that doesn't mean it should be celebrated when it rides the coattails of harmful(and bigoted) tropes.
