You can't convince me Nine isn't the perfect fusion of AFO and Yoichi...
I mean just look:
Is Nine their secret love child or something?
Lowkey one of the only reasons I want Capcom to remake DMC1 under Kamiya vision is to finally get a realized version of original Vergil as he was concived by Little's Devil team
In a crazy alternate timeline we got long hair Vergil looking a bit crusty and in words of the DMC1 character designer "a John Constantine like" character
(Btw isn't funny how originally Dante the clean and good looking twin while Vergil could have took better care of himself?)
The confusion of people who only know Vergil for Itsuno version of the character would make this worth it
Seeing more or what Kamiya had planned if he had the resources to create a more extended story would be good in general, but Vergil in particular is one of those elements he couldn't add much into the game
Funny you say Nine is a Yoichi AFO clone:
There's this parody fandub on youtube by Anime Joyride/Joyride Entertainment (an abridged series) that actually has Nine be a clone of a younger AFO. The series is... weird, especially with its treatment of Izuku, but it actually has some decent changes to the lore of the series. Not improvements necessarily, but really good ideas that are good for the story they're telling, mainly in relation to AFO's family and OFA and their version of AFO and Tomura sort of just draw me in, wanting to see how their story will go.
So basically:
AFO, Yoichi and the Glowing Baby are all the same character. How? Rather than just being the first recorded instance of a Quirk, AFO is the source of Quirks and though he was thrown on the streets as a baby for his quirk, spent his life giving Quirks around the world, but was disappointed in the society it created. His last hope was his daughter who gave a Quirk important to him: OFA, which a Vestige of a younger him resided in (which is them using footage of Yoichi.). His daughter? NANA. At some point he becomes a villain, I assumed it was because of Nana dying, but Nine (who has AFO's memories.) tries to take OFA and asks calmly (NOT calmly) "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY NANA?" while doing villain stuff. His motivation in the film being to reunite with her.
I think I saw part of that series once, but since it was very confusing I drop it without understand anything.
So thanks for the context in this case
Surprisingly isn't the first time I've seen this idea of the Shigaraki brothers being related to the glowing baby. Think back then people often theorize the baby was actually another family member.
As for the Nine-Nana dynamic, I often think on how that could work based on my own headcanons and theories for Nine.
In general is funny to imagine for the spirits of the OFA holders would react if Yoichi is so happy by introduce them to his mini afo son, and Nine is equally awkward.
If you compare the official artd, you'll see DMC1 Dante design has always gotten more love and attention than his other designs. Capcom does have a favorite.🔥
Wish it was the version they used for Marvel vs Capcom (instead they did a weird mix between dmc3 and 4 Dante)
I can see why they would use DMC1 look, as after all is an incredibly striking design on itself.
I would like if they show the same appriciation to DMC2 Dante design too. Despite the game itself is trash people generally accept Dante look there is probably his best ever.
I love how lately we have got DMC1 Dante representation in artwork and official merch
Doesn't seem that important, but is cool Capcom remember the origins of the character and not just put DMC5 design everywhere because is the most recent (which is what a lot of companies tend to do with their characters)
Also sorry Rebellion, but Alastor is by far the coolest sword Dante used in the entire franchise.
He's such a beauty DMC1, let me tell you.
Netflix France to the rescue
(This is real btw)
First time in a while french people are so based 🍓🫐
The fun thing of the netflix series is despite they try so hard to desguise it as some normie het love story, all the scenes of ladydan come as horribly forced and physically akward as possible, to the point no even their own shippers like them for how ugly they end up looking
Meanwhile everytime the twins are together you have this atmosphere of intimancy, drama but also desire of be together despite claim otherwise
Hell Dante quite literally says "I can't lose you again after found you" with big sad puppy eyes and Vergil looks like he's about to cry too
And they act surprised this attrack twincest shippers like sweet to a flies lol
I'm neutral to game danIady but show danIady is undoubtedly fucking AWFUL.
Would you seriously just magically fall in love with someone after one kiss, after they repeatedly lied to you, betrayed you, used you, and were the reason you were in captivity for months???!?!?? Oh and you've only known them for only a few months. Yeah I don't think so.
Game Dante would NEVER stand for that sort of treatment and betrayal, so the show making Dante a weak pathetic doormat bitch is so infuriating😭😭😭
Also this tweet made me laugh bc it's literally their relationship in the show😂
The show sidelining Vergil in favor of trying to shoehorn Lady as the humanity in Dante's life when that was simply never the case in the games is just abysmal. Not to mention the danIady buildup in the show is nonexistent.
Vergil & Dante's relationship is so compelling because of just how much they revolve around each other. They were and still are the center of each other's journeys. They're so intertwined. Even when they were apart, they were constantly being haunted by each other, haunting each other's thoughts, they were what they'd think about in both their best & worst moments.
Trying to replace either of them with another character is so forced and simply does not work.
There's just a single time Dante stands for himself, and yet it obviously is twisted as if he was the unreasonable one and they still manage to put Mary as the real victim
Is frustrating, because isn't like they can't convey Dante actual personality if they want
In any case, this atrocious excuse of a romantic relationship feels extremely manipulative, abusive and one sided with Dante having little to no agency at all in the whole matter
The whole season Dante is desperate for reunite with Vergil again and he's almost excited as a child for the idea of reunite with his twin, but Mary is always there to stop him and try to grab his attention somehow. It kinda feels intentional, and she keeps manipulating him because at core she always intended to use Dante as a mere tool for stop Vergil rampage
And that's exactly how it ended ironically, once Dante serve his porpuse and Mary no longer needed him she just runs off to do her own stuff without even check if he's okay or alive
While Dante ends up alone, emotionally and physically destroyed after loosing Vergil once again as he feared
Is unfair and cruel in so many levels
Well, well go ahead and confront your brother dear. We know you can't wait anymore, nothing is stoping you
*proceed to show his birthing hips*
I know your game Netflix...
(Real frame of the show btw)
Damn, Vergil is eating his whole birthday cake
So this kid from the S2 AMV was meant to be Arius?
It'll be funny if Adi just play the "give this forgotten less popular villain a sad childhood" card again
Welcome back Rabbit, you never leave after all lol
Btw why all kids in this universe look like they dress up for 1915?
I would like to report that the homoerotic stabbing is still very much alive and well in Netflix May Cry.
The freaks stay winning.
Vergil is enjoying this like crazy, just look at that smirk
After so many years the heat of the moment must be otherworldly
I love in spardacest fics when they explain why fucking with your family is completly normal for demons and they actually just establish how much of a freak, monsterfucker Sparda was in the eyes of demonkind.
Could you imagine?
Mundus: Sparda mate with a human? A female one? What a disgraceful abomination...
...
At least Dante and Vergil are curse correcting the bloodline and they had their own little cub together (Nero)
The fact we'll have a real sequence of Vergil stepping for protect his mate
Also there's this other shot where Ver is wielding another sword, maybe is Rebellion? Against Mundus no less
Maybe the damsel in distress role will switch up after all
Vergil: The only one who can stab my little brother multiple times… is me!
That’s how I imagine Vergil in that moment 😎
Being serious, I’m honestly pretty surprised by this take on things, and I feel like it kind of confirms this Vergil doesn’t have that much in common with the one we know from the games. So I really can’t figure out where this is going.
A protective Vergil over Dante actually kind of fits with what Vergil originally wanted power for: to protect himself and the people he cares about. But in the games, he kind of loses that goal, because Dante doesn’t really need protecting anyway—at least not in the same way, as his equal. Dante isn’t exactly someone who’s going to go down easily; he’s strong enough to wipe out a city on his own. But here it feels like Dante is weaker than Vergil, and instead of them fighting side by side, that dynamic is shifting. Interesting.
On the other hand, I’m a bit nervous, because seeing Vergil this emotionally open makes some kind of romantic angle with a human way more believable—and yeah… that makes me sweat, not gonna lie.
This is definitely going to be a really interesting version of Vergil to watch. I honestly have no idea what’s going to happen next.
It's definitely something that describes their dynamic very well lol
Vergil: No one here can kill this fool
Dante: Vergil! I knew deep inside you still like m...
Vergil: No one besides me!
Dante: Well that's in character for him
...
When you think about it, Vergil being more powerful than Dante (at least at this point) isn't really unjustified.
I mean you have to consider Vergil in this universe was serving under Mundus for at least 15 years while being in hell, a toxic place he seem fully adapted, and very likely fighting/training agaisnt much more powerful opponents Dante ever faced on Earth. All this not even counting the fact he likely never stops a single day.
While this Dante was fighting sure, but he lives in the human world and got to spend a semi chill life and it's stated he even drops jobs because he gets bored (probably because the lack of a proper rival).
The difference of experience alone should be really big considering videgame logic doesn't apply for these versions.
Ngl, seeing a more emotionally open Vergil can be a nice change of air after their complicated dynamic in almost every DMC media.
Kinda like how we already seen Dante fully commited to save Vergil from the get go because of a promise to their mom, rather than try to kill him (dmc3) or put end to his suffering (dmc1).
In a sense is funny because from what we seen these look like the most conventionally romantic versions of the twins out of any DMC versions.
P.S: If the end of season is Dante and Vergil open the Devil May Cry shop together I will laugh my ass off. It would be the most spardacest fanfic ever.
No way, "See U in hell" and Dante doing this pose is the most spardacest coded thing the show has done so far.
The fact they got a romantic song is reason to enough to forgive some sins about the adaptation.
I can already tell the best part abour S2 of the Netflix series will be the official art for the twins
Despite my gripes about the Netflix DMC series I have to admit the last trailer made me think the spardacest dynamic in s2 will be a fun deviation of the usual relationship we have for the twins
Vergil being the groomed child soldier of Mundus can be interesting if they give it time to be fleshed out
But more importantly, this is the first time we see a Dante being so desperate to get his Vergil back, which is a nice change of pace
The face of someone who needs his mate back
Maybe Netflix Spardacest will end up having it's own identity after all
At this point, we just have to see the Netflix adaptation for what it is: basically a Spardacest fanfic. I mean, in season one Dante literally screams that Vergil is his reason for living, and then unlocks his devil form for the first time to defeat the threat. So yes, Vergil has always been the reason behind his power—but here it’s framed much more like love and desperation rather than just conflict or an obligation.
That’s why I’m treating it like a fanfic. Because if they’re already leaning that far into it, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if in season two Dante becomes way more emotionally open—showing desperation, anger, and maybe even straight-up saying he loves Vergil (It looks like it’s going in that direction—Vergil becoming the Disney princess, and Dante the knight who has to save him from the villain’s arms, nice, nice 😈).
I get why people are mad about the adaptation, but I also understand why they’re trying to restructure things—DMC as a whole is messy and inconsistent. But the problem isn’t the conclusion they reach about fixing it to make it more consistent—the problem is the execution. They keep trying to fix it (which is good), but they don’t really know how.
So honestly, the best way to enjoy it is to treat it like a fanfic, not a faithful adaptation. We’ll all have a better time that way. (And if they make Dante x Lady canon, or turn Vergil into someone madly in love with some random red woman and wanting a family or whatever… forget everything I just said. I’m just going to light a nice fire to keep my hands warm..)
I personally have no strong feelings whatsoever about the Netflix series, in fact my main problem is that so far it was... kind of boring.
I like when we learn stuff about Dante and how he clearly is much more openly emotion about his own past that we usually see in the main canon. But that is kind the lesser part of the show, as if you consider the Rabbit and Lady got a whole episode where Dante isn't even present, but he doesn't get the same treatment and his own story is reduced to brief flashback with Vergil only making cameos during the whole s1.
Oh well, I guess we only had to wait a year for get a s2 focused (for the most part) on them.
You know? Is kinda ironic what you say about DMC as a whole being messy and confusing at time, which I agree, but honestly the Netflix show might be as confusing if not more.
Because s2 will present villains and apparently plot points of DMC2, Dante and Vergil as a main focus reflecting part 3, there's also Lady's arc being there too for what we can see, but Mundus is also an important villain, and even Baines is supposed to be there. Such a mess.
Oh also is very funny we end up having Vergil as the damsel in distress, considering people speculated it would be the exact opposite with Ver coming to free Dante from his confinement at the end of s1 (there's even fanart of that).
Princess Ver is something I'll be open to watch just for how fun it will be.
Wonder if this show will ever get to introduce Nero.

What a time to be alive
I lowkey hate that a lot of itajun writers go a bit too far into making Junpei vulnerable not only mentally, but also physically and downplay his power level a lot compared to everyone else
C'mon he was going on pair with Yuji despite getting c.t just two days ago, and we seen how deadly poison can truly be
I get Junpei might have self esteem problems at first but in most stories Yuji needs to do the heavh lifting and also act as his emotional support at the same time
Need someone to give me op Junpei who gets his own wins and can protect other and Yuji especially
They need to be a power couple, not Jun being the damsel on distress (at least not all the time)
I agree. I have a lot of ships where one character is much, much stronger than the other physically, and it leads to a level of flanderization of the physically weaker character. It's kind of hard to not have the stronger character do all the work when they're right there. Yuuji is unfortunately, much, much stronger than Junpei so a power difference is going to exist. But that doesn't mean Junpei's gonna stand around.
Mahito egged Junpei on to be more brutal, but he does have a spine and doesn't take things lying down. Even when he was getting bullied, he was retaliating and being combative.
I wish more fics would focus on getting him in situations which would show more of his strengths. Also focus on the fact that he is a bit of an asshole when he's pushed into a corner. Should he have said those guys were only bullying him because they want the girl in the group to have sex with them? No, that was sexist. But like you get it right? He's gonna sink lower than the other person to get a hit in and he's not gonna regret it because it's the only way he can get any upper hand. I'm actually not even sure if he has self-esteem problems. He never really considers himself to be in the wrong or lacking in a way. A lot of his comments are about how he thinks everyone around him is shit.
I don't doubt he has self-esteem issues underneath it all, but I don't think he's the sort to be primarily behave based on that aspect of himself.
Contrasting Yuuji's (pre JJK Modulo) personality of always being honorable and just with Junpei's "everything goes, fuck you" mentality in fics WITHOUT making them only that would be nice to see. It would be fun to see how as a sorcerer you need both these mentalities to survive and how these thought processes support each other.
Power couple itajun is very fun and very easy to do. I mean the poison-expert and the guy who's immune to any poison? Sign me up!
EDIT: Addition because I get a chance to yap and I love yapping. A good way to show the competence of characters without having one overshadow the other, is to really understand what each of them is good at. Then in fics, you write scenarios to maximize that.
Like if I was writing an ItaJun fic, then I'm gonna put Junpei in positions where he gets to
a)be as brutal as he wants b)get smart with his poison c) Use his distrust and skepticism to have him be more analytical
I was writing an itajun fic set in Shibuya arc, and while Megumi, Yuuji, Hana etc forgot to consider maybe Tsumiki could be possessed by a former sorcerer rather than an awakened one in canon, Junpei is NOOOOOOOOOT gonna miss that if he was there. And he doesn't, and when shit hits the fan he's the more prepared one out of the group to handle that. Yes he's the weakest in the group, but that one thing gives him an edge.
Yuuji's honesty and accountability, even for things he does not have to take blame for leads Higurama to trust him and hand him the points in Shibuya arc. In this case, a skeptic mindset would've been a disadvantage. In the former, Junpei's inability to trust would've helped. Shonen manga emphasizes power as the be-all and end-all. But fanfiction allows us to break that rule to take other factors like morals, ideologies, intellect and circumstances into consideration to really bring out the best in all our characters.
I feel a lot of people kinda forget Junpei wasn't "uwu sad emo twink" but a guy who really had no problem saying what he thinks and with a very sharp tongue if needed. His actual problem was lacking the strength to stand up for himself, but I don't like how many people think he would be extremely passive with any new people he meet at the jujutsu school, especially Yuji friends.
That being said, compare anyone to Yuji is kinda unfair considering he's meant to became the strongest in the whole series at least in the future lol.
But something people also tend to forget is that "new awakening" sorcerers by the c.t of Mahito tend to be particulary strong based on what we seen in canon, and Gege doesn't even bother making a complex explanation this, he kinda just does because. I mean just look how high people like Takaba, or even more so Higurama advance in terms of learning skills and control over their new powers.
Junpei could've easily been like that, especially with a technique based on poison which is stated to be really probablematic in the world of Jujutsu. I feel people should capitalize on that rather than make his c.t feel so lame compared to most of his peers.
Not to mention how versatile Moon Dregs showed to be in a brief period of time.
The self-esteem problem part seem like something people interpret as a response to trauma, which is kinda valid but c'mon a lot of times that's also exaggerated and made to the point Junpei feels kinda useless in battle. I get is fair get trauma but this is JJK, the trauma quite literally fuels strenght and power in a way and most characters learn to live with that because is just the reality of the world they live in.
I really love to think Junpei lack of physical training could be compensated not only for usually be on pair with Yuuji, but his own inteligence and own approach to fights being a sneaky and opportunistic player rather go for the front like others do.
Junpei is also an interesting character to put in fight scenarios because his c.t could be used to apply literal debuffs to enemies and (in some stories) also buff his own allies with new developed techniques of his own. Nothing better than when they turn him into a literal support class from a videogame.
