ONE MORE UNFORTUNATE GONE TO HER REST
Died at the den of C-- E-- Lizz, on Main street Buena Vista, the latest victim name unknown, death supposed to be caused by poison.
This the second victim within two months, that has escaped the thraldon of man’s lust and winged her way to the portals of the spirit land, where we hope more mercy will be shown her than has been in this. We shrink with horror and disgust at the life of these poor creatures lead, and scarcely grant them a decent burial, while we smile upon the villains who support their wretched vocation and are the cause of all their misery and the disgrace it brings upon the community. When a people have sunk so low that these vile dens of prostitution are allowed to rule a town, that town is doomed. When a man or woman thinks more of putting a few dollars into their pockets, than of saving their fellow men, they will surely be defeated in the long run. Sin cannot always abound. Destruction must come soon or later. Heaven grant that the people of Buena Vista may realize this truth before it is too late.

“Big Em,” alias Eb Adderberg, alias “La Tejana,” alias Burke, attempted to shuffle off this mortal coil, late yesterday afternoon, by the morphine route, in a fit of despondency over the transfer of the affections and embraces of her lover to another soiled dove. Dr. Felipe Romero was called and succeeded in lengthening her miserable days on earth.
(Las Vegas Daily Optic [NM], August 25, 1896)
Girls still have the rage for male togs. The latest case is that of the young bride who boldly wore breeches in a Ocean Grove (N.J.) hotel, where her husband was engaged as a superintendent. She got along very well until she undertook to make love to the cook and the chambermaids. That was carrying the thing too far. The racket wouldn’t pan out, and the trick was exposed. She might have known that. What did she expect.

Lida Sackett, Ethel Williams, Hattie Steel and Sally Harris, inmates of the red light palace of sin on Durant avenue, got tangled up in a family row over who should pay for the last growler, and all of them landed in the cooler. Sallie Harris pleaded guilty to being the party who had instigated the row, and was fined $5 and costs. The others were allowed to go.
