Not me once again thinking of how much energy communicating with bloom took out of Daphne. How many times she wished it didn’t have to be Bloom constantly putting herself in harms way, despite the fact that she herself had done so in the past and would do so again in a heartbeat. Not me thinking about how much Daphne loves her little sister, just for being her little sister. How she’d often daydream of a life where they’d gotten to grow up together.

𝘏𝘌𝘙 𝘚𝘐𝘚𝘛𝘌𝘙 was of no concern to daphne – nor even to nessarose anymore . elphaba had burned her bridges and made decisions of her own , but nessa can say with confidence that if it allowed for her safety , elphaba would have done anything . not to mention , there was a time that her sister chose herself over her , when she was most depending on her to be there . elphaba too had promised to take care of her , and had failed to fully deliver that promise . in ways , it had made her stronger ( and the damage , if it could be called that , long had faded ) . the rate of her heart increases , though nessarose never fears the young girl . what is there to be fearful of ? daphne would not dare to do anything that would harm her ; the lives of both herself and her sister were reliant on nessa , and if she were harmed , that would be quite unfortunate for the both of them . ❛ my sister understood the concept of the greater good , ❜ the governor spits bitterly , her words only telling half of the truth . elphaba had a strong moral compass , but it very often pointed in the opposite direction that people wanted it to . it may have been the greater good , but it hardly was the easy way out . ❛ which is something i believe you must be more accepting of . you cannot always be there for her , and it’s best that you learn that now . ❜
The greater good, Daphne understood that more than any her age should. She’d watched as her parents had gone off into battle, had relinquished the Flame to her infant sister to ensure its safety- the Flame which had once been as much a part of her as her blood. To say it had pained her would be an understatement, to say the least. Of, course she couldn’t always be there for Bloom. As she grew the girl would need to make her own choices, her own mistakes. As Keeper of the Dragon Flame, Bloom would need to be ready for whatever lay ahead of her... but now? Now, when she was less than a year old? Still so reliant of her sister for everything...? Governor Thropp might as well have stuck a knife through her heart.
“I suppose you have some sort of plan for Bloom’s care in my absence?” Daphne sighed, eyes dropping meekly to the floor. If she knew this woman as well as she thought by now, the ‘plan’ was poor Boq. Boq who would somehow have to be at her beck and call as well as try and see to Bloom. her little one was crawling now, eager to explore. Someone would need to be with her, or keep her occupied somehow. This house, wasn’t exactly safe for one so small. “She’s learning things quickly, and is likely to seek out her own entertainment if left alone. I’m afraid she’s inherited the same stubborn nature our father was known for.... When would I leave for this.. school, Madam Governor?”

Bloom knelt beside her sister, taking her hands and looking her over despite reassurances. She herself had managed to avoid anything worse than a couple of cuts and a small burn.
“Nothing that won’t heal on its own,” she assured. “I’m just a little tired.” That was an understatement, but she didn’t want to worry Daphne more.
Part of her was reassured that she could still hold her own in a fight, though now it seems it took a lot more out of her than it used to. Her body unused to the release of such energy after so long. Her wings disappeared, replaced by the gown she’d been wearing before her transformation.
“Still, we should- have someone look at you, just in case.” Daphne said, with some struggle, as she tried to reach for her cane with her free hand. Note to self; just tossing said cane aside before a fight was a stupid idea. Not that the blonde had really been thinking when she’d sensed her younger sister in danger. “We’ve already had plenty of excitement today... I’d rather avoid any more surprises if you don’t mind.”

After so many years, Daphne knew the signs well. The headaches, the tingling that would crawl up her spine, the sudden feeling of the temperature dropping. The warnings that her younger sister was in danger. So many times before, Daphne had been forced to sit back and watch, trust in Bloom and her power, trust that all would be well... For once, she was grateful that Headmistress Faragonda allowed her to leave when her duties as Crown Princess conflicted with those as History Professor. Though she did feel for her students, stuck under the ever watchful eye of Ms. Griselda in her absence. She’d arrived late, though thankfully it seemed not late enough.
“Don’t worry about me, Little Sister.” Amber eyes softened, even as her wings gave out and Daphne fell to her knees. Trembling hands reached for those of her redheaded sister. She was tired, her muscles aching as she she tried to catch her breath. “I- I’ll be fine soon enough... I just need to rest. Did she hurt you?”
