@nyohomobro
hate how they forced bugs bunny into anti-weed propaganda in the 90s, as if bugs bunny wouldn’t love smoking weed
To be perfectly fair, bugs bunny would also love taking money for starring in anti-weed propaganda and then using said money to buy weed
bugs bunny is not real
A flip thru my sollux journal
ayo this pretty cool
This page provides information on open source wheelchairs.
[id: active style manual wheelchair with frame made of rectangle wood planks screwed together. end id]
as we know active type wheelchair very expensive, & repair need buy from specific medical manufacturer n take very long time. someone (who wheelchair user themself of near 40 years) made open source active manual wheelchair where most (if not all?) material from commercial easy get materials! wood, plastic, pvc pipe, & those commercial aluminum square pipe things. n they put guide made them yourself in link for anyone want try make
this video from their instagram show their wood frame wheelchair actually pretty durable, include clip from everyday use & even drop wheelchair all over place (basically imagine what airline do to them…) - n wheelchair stay in tact! n even if some part break - it easy change because wood planks all screwed together so you just buy wood plank & unscrew & rescrew.
not great for people w advanced seating positioning needs probably (think if only problem is easy butt pressure sore, maybe can still use this + supportive cushion but think beyond that it get hard). but if like you don’t need those things then maybe fun project?
have not use for self so can’t actually talk about experience but it look pretty cool
this getting lots attention n hope can help some people!! it escaped containment so not sure people who already reblogged that want them to see would actually see, but hope this inform at least one person:
before do this for yourself/someone else… please please learn how to proper measure person for active wheelchair, & how active wheelchair supposed to fit.
ill fitting wheelchair can damage body. (use wheelchair improperly also will.) for manual wheelchair, it can permanently damage joints & muscles, especially shoulders. it can hurt posture, give you/worsen scoliosis & kyphosis. it can give you more pain & fatigue than you had, including (paradoxically) leg pain from muscle tightness. it can cause pressure sores, which range from painful, make you bed bound, to even death. for active wheelchairs, even 1 inch, half inch, make huge difference. n this of course go double for people w advanced seating positioning needs. so please learn how to measure body, where to measure body, n how build chairs base on these measurements.
your mobility is use it or lose it. use wheelchair improperly (& even properly) can cause damage. like muscle atrophy & deconditioning. use higher back rest than you need can weaken core.
“walking give me so much pain & fatigue lower quality of life, so will be happy lose it.” get it. really do. but. use manual wheelchair tiring & exhausting, it need lots strength, & be wheelchair user in inaccessible world, able stand n walk few steps unlock so many things. if have pain & fatigue, deconditioning & atrophy will give you more pain & fatigue, not less. will make your joints even more unstable. muscles need for walking do so much more for you than just walking.
am saying all this as someone who keep have “deconditioning” & co used against me. constantly.
this of course NOT saying don’t do this. but PLEASE do your homework. please make informed decision, learn your risks ahead of time, know what you getting into, know what to expect, so if they happen, you not surprised & have to grieve more loss & more symptoms. know how to avoid or weaken risks - learn exercises that mean keep body in shape, from deconditioning & atrophy, exercises that can be done sitting down or in bed. look up manuals meant for ATP (assistive tech professionals) & PT/OT for wheelchair fitting & exercises. n, am assuming you try other mobility aids n they not work for you all time. but if you haven’t, please do try them too, like rollators. know we all want live painless, but wheelchair big thing with risks.
dignity of risk so important for disabled people, but please, know what the risks are.

since this “latinx or latine” discussion is getting attention again, i’d like to point out that it’s important to know how disabled people feel about it, and why you should consider using “e” instead of “x” for making gendered words neutral.
basically, a blind brazilian and anti-ableism blogger first spoke about this issue in january 2015, claiming that words such as “latinx” and “bonitx” are actually anything but inclusive, since visually impaired people can’t understand what you’re saying, because their reading-out-loud softwares can’t pronounce these words. she then suggests that using “e” as a neutral term can be way more inclusive both to nonbinary and visually impaired people (ex.: latine, bonite). she also states that you can be neutral without using “ela” or “ele” by using instead “a pessoa/that person” or simply using the person’s name.
she stills talks about this issue on her page to this day, as well as many of other anti-ableism activists on facebook, and they ask us to spread the word by sharing their posts - so as a non-disabled person, that’s what i’m doing. i hope this helps!
other articles about this topic: [x], [x]
I just want to add, before anyone asks, that for spanish/portuguese speakers the “x” is really hard to use because %99 of the time it doesn’t come out natural at all. We literally don’t know how to say it, like the softwares. If we use it, it usually interrumps our speech all the time because we have to think how we say it. The “x”/the sound that it makes is not usual in our languages. The “e” not only helps disabled people but also it helps us because its easier and more natural in our tongues.
On top of the aforementioned reasons to shift from latinx to latine for gender neutrality, doing so will not be difficult in oral speech even for native English speakers (instead of saying /ˈlætɪnɛks/ = Lah-teen-ex you say /ˈlætɪnɛ/ = Lah-teen-eh).
If we’re thriving for inclusive language, we should thrive for an inclusive language that effectively includes everyone. The use of Latine (and -e suffixes for gender neutrality in Portuguese and Spanish), unlike that of Latinx (and -x suffixes for gender neutrality in Portuguese and Spanish), does not have ableist consequences, and does not exclude visually impaired people.
Like @curles said, spread the word!
