Tarsem Singh spent 8 years searching for the right actress to play Alexandria before he began shooting the film. Alexandria’s charming and enigmatic character was, according to Singh, the driving force that could carry the film’s story. The interactions seen between Roy and Alexandria are essentially unrefined and natural, and the chemistry between the actors is very tangible.  The development of their onscreen relationship in the resulting scenes corresponds with the relationship Lee and Catinca built in reality, as the hospital scenes were filmed consecutively.

darlin’ and darling are so not the same thing

Darling is sharp and enunciated. Darling is spoken for other people. It is a warning. A quiet message to Jim that if he doesn’t shut up, or get it together, or follow him right now that Bones isn’t liable for what he might do to him later. Darling is for dinner parties and Starfleet awards ceremonies and soirees. Darling is for when there are guests in their home and Jim is being an asshole or too drunk. Darling, could you help me in the kitchen real quick. Darling, can I talk to you for a minute. Darling is a word Jim learns to fear, that sets off flashing red warning lights in his mind. Eventually all Bones has to say Is Darling. And Jim just knows.

Darlin’ is off the cuff. It’s heavy and it’s slurred. Darlin’ is for smoky back rooms, for the quiet moments, for when Bones is going to challenge Jim to do something. You can try, Darlin’. We’ll see about that darlin’. Darlin’ Is for the two of them. Darlin’ is for warm moments on the beach, in the fading daylight. Darlin’ is what Bones whispers to Jim when Bones’ holding his face between his hands and their foreheads are touching. Darlin’ is followed by a quiet “I love you.” Though as the years pass, Bones doesn’t have to say it. A simple sweet look and a Darlin' are enough to convey it.
