I don’t know if anyone is still interested in reading On Dating a Demon, or if anyone would read it if I finished it, but I still care deeply for my story.

I care if it remains unfinished. I want to finish it.

2026 will be focused on me finishing writing it. 2027, during the year of the 10 Year Anniversary, I plan to post it.

I plan to post the next chapter in the next few weeks, and I might post a few chapters here and there throughout 2026.

Please know, if you’re a fan, it’s not dead and I’m working to finish it. ODAD has a special place in my heart and I will not abandon Ashley and Hiei’s story.

I still think it’s a funny coincidence that Ashley’s dog in On Dating a Demon is a corgi named Knox, and Teddy, my dog that I rescued earlier this year, is a corgi mix. Teddy is the first dog I’ve adopted as an adult. I did not plan to make this parallel. It was a complete coincidence. 😂

Basically this is the same message as the previous video I shared by this creator. But it’s just an older TikTok. Like they have mentioned, it seems like this argument keeps cycling around every few months. It’s not hard to understand. If you don’t support and encourage writers, then they’re going to give up and quit writing. Simple as that. The community side of fanfic and AO3 has died off. Writers are leaving. AI writing, puritans and the “fandom police” are taking over. Please, just support those of us that are left.

That is so weird to me, because I enjoy reading WIPs way, waaaay more than finished works.

To me, it's like watching a fic being made in real time. It's connecting with the author as they work on it. Like watching a TV show that only airs one episode per week: it's the expectation, the wait, the wondering what will happen next, the theories and speculations.

Reading finished longfics is like binge-watching. It can be fun, but you are done in a day or two and then it's onto the next one.

But that's just me.

This is honestly what made me lose interest in writing ODAD. FFnet became a hellhole of ads and people stopped interacting as I started posting less frequently. Combined with the fact that it NEVER got a lot of interaction on AO3, the lack of engagement helped kill my motivation to write. Why write if I don’t know that anyone is reading it?

It’s also why I’ve decided to write the rest of ODAD in entirety and post everything in a year or so once it’s done. I can’t continue writing with no external motivation.

I miss the days where I’d post a chapter each week and receive engagement. But if I try picking that up again I fear the lack of engagement might make me stay away for another few years. And I don’t want that - for my motivation and for my love of this story.

the wisdom ive learnt is that becoming part of a friend group 1) takes a long time and 2) involves a lot of feeling awkward and left out at first. there’s nothing terrible about this but if you grew up chronically lonely or have any kind of trauma relating to social isolation this likely feels Really Wrong and activates danger signals. but both fortunately and unfortunately it’s just how becoming close to new people works most of the time

another thing that was not intuitive to me as someone who grew up an autistic loner: basically everyone on the planet is starved for connection all the time and almost everything people do is an attempt to reach out to another. most seemingly illogical interactions and behaviours can be explained by this. you have to take as many of these invitations as you can. even if you're wrong you still attempted to bring more warmth into the world

Not only is having worldbuilding threads that are mentioned once and never picked up again not a flaw in fantasy media, I'd go so far as to say that a lack of such threads is a flaw. If everything ties up in one neat little package, you're missing the point of fantasy worldbuilding. Like, don't do it on every page, or your setting is going to be an overstuffed mess, but every so often you are not only allowed but obligated to casually drop some utterly batshit worldbuilding detail and then just never follow up on it. Maybe some rocks are sentient. You don't owe your reader an explanation. Just fucking go for it.
