Life at the Omega house was— peculiar. Not may moreso than the rest of his life, trading motel rooms and schools like ill fitting socks. Try one on, discard, try another. Long nights on the road, crappy food, sticky diner seats.
The seats here weren’t sticky, but the food was just as bad. His lessons, once he’d classed and arrived here, were less than stellar. History and math was swapped for parenting classes and cooking. A small room took place of lockers, putting one in mind of the college dorms of myth, though you had about the same amount of personal possessions.
That is— Sam did. He wasn’t the only Omega that had been dropped off here with nothing more than a duffel bag full of clothes, but he was fairly certain he’d been the one who’d stuck around the longest. At first he’d held out a hope it’d been a mistake, that it was temporary. The big black car he’d been so familiar with would return and take him away from regulated meals and strict rules. No such luck.
Once a month there was a mandatory Alpha meeting, in which all the available Omegas would meet the new and remaining Alphas in the register, the ones that had paid to be considered, gotten to the top of the waiting list, all competing for a spot in an Omega’s favor, so he could take one home and do god knows what with them. Sam didn’t trust it. He didn’t really trust anyone actually, he was all too aware what position Omegas held in their society. The way the Alphas milled around, leering and patting his ass, didn’t really endear themselves into his good graces. The thought of being some knothead’s broodmare wasn’t all that attractive (no matter what his teachers had told them).
Nevertheless, he wasn’t allowed to sit in his room and skip the event. So he put on his best clothes and resolved to stay with his back to the wall and be as unsociable as possible until the night was over. He doubted he’d see anyone that would appeal to him.
