Brutalia! They feel yellow to me, I can't explain it.
The shadow overlay, I couldn't help myself, their relationship was always overshadowed, there was always a darkness lingering over them, they would never have had a happy ending.
They're holding hands, holding onto each other, their togetherness encapsulated in the inevitabilty of having to let go.
To me, Bruce looks almost desperate, pushing up into Talia, while she watches him sadly. How Bruce was going to stay, and Talia knew she had to push him away.
Thank you @superman-creampieing-batman for the link to the picrew, I've been having fun all evening.
(Brutalia, Superbat, Batlantern.)
Superbat! The muted blue felt apt.
Again, the overcast. But this one comes from above, not quite covering the whole image, how their relationship is shadowed by looming troubles.
Clark is soft, content, eyes closed as they kiss, where Bruce is anything but. He smiles, but he clings to Clark, eyes open to savour the moment.
Their love is overcast by the rough edges. Where Clark is content, Bruce cannot believe that he has something good. He looks greedy because he feels greedy, consuming what he has of this brief pleasure, unable to believe in any future with him involved.
shoutout to the mutuals i actually interact with regularly & big apologies to the mutuals i do not interact with regularly or the mutuals who i used to interact with but now do not. ily all
Polycule but it’s just two people in a romantic relationship with each other and their third who’s pretty obviously aroace but also somehow so deeply intertwined in their lives that it’d just be wrong to not count them as involved. Is this anything.
It really says something that a lot of monogamous people consider polyamorous and aromantic to be "opposites" but every polyam person I know took one look at aromantics and said "they're just like me for real"
Poly folks x aro folks in the sense that "alloromantic heterosexual monogamous people view love and sex as an entirely different entity than me, and that makes life kinda strange"
"What if the batkids killed bruce under mind control?"
No, make it worse for him.
What if the batkids were forced to kill each other under mind control while bruce was forced to watch, unable to do anything? What if Jason was the last one alive and the person controlling them made him finish them off before dousing everything with gas and lighting a fire then killing himself so they couldn't be revived?
Okay I'm all done out from the other one but yes. Perfect. No notes.
The batfam is mind controlled, and they are tasked to kill bruce, they are successful and when they finally come to… “What have we done…?” “Mama! Mama please wake up! Mama!”
Dick, Jason, Tim, Cass, Damian are hysterical. They’ve just killed their mama… and he let them
(LOVE U OCCA)
"Not your fau—"
The mind control fades away, and Dick looks down at the body before him, Bruce's blood soaking his hands.
As always, picking what prompts to include was really hard thanks to you guys' wonderful brains, but we hope this list will excite many of you! Additional info + plain text versions of the prompts can be found under the cut. Please check the FAQ below before sending asks.
FAQ and Rules
What sort of content can I create for this event?
You can create whatever you want (fic, art, edits, etc). Any fandom is allowed, as well as OC stuff. NSFW is allowed, but please tag your content accordingly! The only thing not allowed is AI-generated content. You're also free to combine these prompts with the prompts of any other event.
Do I need to make 31 things to participate?
Oh heavens no! You can make as much or as little content as you like, skip days when desired, or combine prompts (so for example, write something that covers a prompt from day 1, 2, AND 3). You don't have to do the days in order either, go wild! To be considered a 'completionist', you only have to make sure that at the end of the month, you've covered 31 prompts from 31 different days, but whether you do that in 31 works or just 1 is up to you. Your works can be separate oneshots or one continuous fic, or something in-between.
How do I interpret these prompts?
Creativity is the name of the game here! If you don't understand a prompt, feel free to send us an ask about it. However, the important thing is you can interpret the prompts however you want. For example, 'heat' could be literal (fever, heatstroke, burn wounds) or figurative (somebody getting heat for something). The dialogue prompts are allowed to be slightly rewritten to fit better for the character whose mouth it's coming out of, be that the whumpee, whumpter, or caretaker. As long as you're having fun!
What are these alts about?
If none of the three prompts of a particular day are your cup of tea, you can swap them out for an alt prompt of your choice. This will count as having covered that day for completionists.
How do I tag my works and is there an AO3 collection?
It suffices to tag your work with #ailesswhumptober for us to see and reblog it! Please also tag nsfw content, since we'll be using that tag on this blog too. Tagging the day is optional but does help the mods along.
There will be an AO3 collection like every year. It will be linked here once created (closer to October).
What's this I hear about badges/achievements?
For those who want an extra challenge, we come up with a set of achievements each year in addition to the 'completionist' one for you to strive for. Each achievement you complete comes with a cool little badge, hand drawn by our very own Mod Radio, which you can claim at the end of the event. A full list of the achievements will be linked here once created (closer to October).
That should be all. If you have any additional questions, check our pinned or hit us up in the ask box. Or join our discord maybe, whumping can be a great group activity!

on the topic of disabled characters, though, i think a LOT of artists give characters mobility aids that their character wouldn't actually benefit from using.
i'm sort of having a mild brain fog moment rn so i can't fully articulate what i'm on about, but i think a lot of able-bodied artists view things like canes and crutches as interchangeable. and they often don't know enough about the wide range of mobility aids to make an informed decision about what their character might actually use based on their disability
i also think that aids like walkers and rollators are sort of viewed as "cringe" on some level, and many people view them to be "just for old people," so many artists will opt for giving a character who has full-body pain and fatigue a cane (which, in many cases, can potentially WORSEN full-body pain) instead. and a lot of people don't realize that most wheelchair users are able to walk, so they don't consider it an option for characters with chronic pain
idk it's kind of frustrating. i've genuinely never, ever seen a character that uses a rollator before. not once. i cannot name a single one. i know of multiple ocs who are described to have full-body pain, dizziness, and fatigue that are drawn as cane users and are never shown with wheelchairs or walkers, though
it's also sort of sad? i've been diagnosed since i was twelve years old, and i only heard of rollators LAST YEAR. and that was only because i saw one irl and immediately asked what it was. i wonder how many disabled people out there don't even know it's an option solely because they're completely underrepresented online and in media
if you're a creative with a disabled oc, PLEASEEE check out this link. it's a very nice and detailed guide for telling which mobility aids suit someone's needs best. it's incredibly important to make the right choice for your character! mobility aids tell you a LOT about someone's lived experience. picking the right one will communicate to your audience #1 what your character goes through #2 that you UNDERSTAND what your character goes through!
