The way Alex Ward is so goddamn good at being so scary and off-putting needs to be studied by anyone who wants to be an actor. The way his voice as Occtis goes from a quiet high and light timbre to a stony whisper that has this rolling growl beneath it is just phenomenal. And it's so funny and proves how good of an actor he is because outside of him playing the character he is such a bright and cheerful guy. But he excels at playing these creepy characters. The first time I saw him in LA By Night, he so utterly creeped me out.

The way Aabria bounces between being the charming and witty version of Thaisha to the cold and ruthless version of her is equally impressive. She lures me in with her charm and jokes then hits with a stone cold brutality that is so wonderful. It makes the outward persona feel like a coping mechanism for just the onslaught of tragedy and trauma she's endured. It feels like both are equally her way of managing it. She's existing in this dichotomy of emotional states because it's the middle between these extremities where the pain exists, where she'd have to confront it. And how could she press onward if she had to confront it?

Occtis is my favorite character. He lives in my brain rent free. But some of y'all are so unnecessarily mean to Vaelus and her decision to break the stone (in a desperate attempt to save everyone!!!) and not think about Occtis.

She barely knows him! Yeah, they were kinda connecting and there was perhaps a tentative friendship starting to bloom. But she's so fucking old and she does Not know this guy. She met him not even 2 weeks ago. And in that moment she was having to choose between saving her family or the lost souls and instead tried to do both

Obviously, from Occtis's perspective, not having been considered before breaking the stone hurts and that sucks. Especially after we got the "only 2 people care about me" line. He might have thought Vaelus was a potential third person to care about him, and her saying she did not think of him utterly shattered that.

As a lover of angst, this is fantastic. I'm very much looking forward to how their relationship will develop from here. But some of y'all are so weird and annoying lmao. All because a female character didn't consider the guy she barely knows in her desperate attempt to save everyone. Lol fuck off

As Occtis likes to learn by watching others, I think it would be neat in the Seekers arc 2 if he started learning to whittle by watching Kattigan (have to fill those hours most everyone else is sleeping somehow). He'd be very slow and precise about it and would take awhile to even get his first piece to start to look like something (a very rudimentary Pin, perhaps). Kattigan would notice it one morning he was up early, be exasperated by how slow Occtis was going, and would go over and start showing him some proper techniques first hand. It would be a small thing, but also a nice way for them to get to know each other without the heavy baggage (Primus) hanging over that time together.

Thinking about Dame Gaya Seremai begging with Occtis to not send them away after reanimating them, gently cupping his cheek, being so *careful* with him after he brought them home & tended to their corpse. He showed them honor and gentleness that makes me think their own house would never have shown - nor would Primus ( or Ryah & Petrah, probably ).

But just. The pleading. The bargaining. "I will do anything you want, please do not make me go back to the dark."

I recall seeing some posts about people wanting Gaya to turn on Occtis after reanimating them & taking revenge on Occtis specifically, when Occtis was the one who carried their body and made sure to bring them back to their family's crypt. He had planned on letting them rest, until Shit hit the Fan™️. And they seem to still be protective, to still know that he was their ward.

Julien is an older brother who is protective of his younger sister an used to facing the scorn of his parents, I think it's only natural that seeing how abusive Occtis' family is to him that there's a protective older brother instinct in him to want to protect him
