UC Riverside students have come up with a plan to deal with rising college costs -- get rid of tuition altogether.

The proposal would eliminate tuition while students are in school. Instead, students would agree to pay 5 percent of their income for 20 years after they graduate.

This... it's called "winning."

And the UC Berkeley president is seriously considering this idea.

Charges against an Occupy Orlando protestor jailed for writing on a city sidewalk with chalk were dropped on Wednesday during a hearing

Orlando police arrested Timothy Osmar on December 22 after he was spotted (via a police surveillance camera) writing on a city sidewalk with piece of chalk.

He then spent THREE WEEKS in jail for violation of a city ordinance without bond.

The city said the time Osmar spent in jail was equivalent to the time he would have served for violating the city ordinance. Therefore, the case was dismissed.

The messages on the sidewalk read “All I want for Christmas is a revolution. OCCUPY.” and “the revolution will not be televised”

In November, Osmar was arrested during Occupy Charlotte near his Fort Mill, South Carolina home for wearing a mask in public.

Timothy is now a free man, and said he wants his chalk back.

Protesters are promising to keep a watchful eye on the state capital this legislative session. Dozens of Tea Party, Occupy and Awake the State protestors traveled from all over Florida to Tallahassee today to voice their displeasure with lawmakers. As Whitney Ray tells us, no political party is safe from their scrutiny…

The 2012 Legislative Session was gaveled in over the voices of protestors. Just outside the House chamber, Occupy Tallahassee protestors lined the entry way handing out flyers and shouting at lawmakers entering the chamber.

The governor took a short cut around the protestors. Once the governor was inside the House Chamber, the occupiers joined with the Awake the State group. The two groups of protestors have similar messages.

Awake the State has more union backing and identifies more with Democrats. Occupiers say no party is meeting their needs.

“Democrats and Republicans are nearly the same. They are just different on a few social issues that get blown up by the media,” said Shelby Radcliffe and Occupier from Orlando.

The Tea Party folks are also having a tough time finding lawmakers who hear their concerns and follow through with their promises.

“We put some of these officials in office right now and we expect them to perform. If they don’t perform, we are going to eliminate them,” said Mary Lynn Geisler a Tea Partier from Ocala.

Tea Party members want to see lawmakers improve schools, repeal redlight cameras and cut spending. All the groups say they’ll hold legislators accountable at the ballot box. All the groups are planning to have members at the capitol throughout the 60 day session.

  Occupy Orlando is a people’s movement. It is party-less, leaderless, by the people and for the people. It is not a business, a political party, an advertising campaign or a brand.  It is not for sale.

We welcome all, who, in good faith, petition for a redress of grievances through non-violence.  We provide a forum for peaceful assembly of individuals to engage in participatory as opposed to partisan debate and democracy.  We welcome dissent.

Any statement or declaration not released through the General Assembly and made public online at www.occupyorlando.org should be considered independent of Occupy Orlando.

We wish to clarify that Occupy Orlando is not and never has been affiliated with any established political party, candidate or organization.  Our only affiliation is with the people.

The people who are working together to create this movement are its sole and mutual caretakers.  If you have chosen to devote resources to building this movement, especially your time and labor, then it is yours.

Any organization is welcome to support us with the knowledge that doing so will mean questioning your own institutional frameworks of work and hierarchy and integrating our principles into your modes of action.

SPEAK WITH US, NOT FOR US.

Occupy Orlando values collective resources, dignity, integrity and autonomy above money.  We have not made endorsements.  All donations are accepted anonymously or named at the donor’s discretion and are transparently allocated via consensus by the General Assembly.

The newly elected Tunisian President refuses a 30,000$ paycheck. He only accepted 2000$ and gave the rest to the poor people of Tunisia.

He also sold 4 presidential palaces that belonged to the Tunisian ex-president to raise funds for the re-building of Tunisia.

An Occupy Florida Event |  On November 5, 2011, Occupy Orlando reached consensus at its General Assembly to begin the process of hosting a Founders-style People’s Convention in Orlando with delegates from the local Occupations of Florida. At present, our political and economic systems favor the interests of corporations and lobbyists over those of the common citizen. Corruption is endemic; politicians have failed us. We the People are gathering together as Occupy Florida to decide what changes we wish to see at the state level.

The People’s Convention of Florida is unaffiliated with any political or special interest groups. A majority of local Florida Occupations have agreed by consensus to support the Convention. To ensure that this is an inclusive conversation, delegates will be anyone from each local Occupation who wants to join us as well as members of the general public who wish to attend.

We will convene the weekend of December 9-11, 2011 to develop a list of desired changes that will resonate with any ethical person. On January 10, 2012, the first day of the Florida legislative session, we will march on Tallahassee to deliver The People’s Plan directly to the State Capitol.

Reclaim your voice. Let’s make the pursuit of happiness possible again.
