My name is Vortex, I am a bottlenose dolphin, I live in the Mid Atlantic Ocean, and I am attempting to integrate into a wild pod.
I was born a human, but raised by a woman who was very much a dolphin enthusiast. I started swimming independently at 14 months and was proficient at 3 years. There was an abundance of dolphin media when I was small, and they very much shaped my early life.
I have lived with humans for many years now, but will very soon be released into the wild. I currently have to remain inland, but will be moving to the ocean within a year for work.
More about me:
I am a bottlenose dolphin, I have 1 notch in my dorsal fin, and bite marks on my fluke. There is also light speckling on my stomach and back.
There is currently no pod in my life, though I am looking forward to joining the pod that lives off the coast of the nearest beach town, as I am moving down there for work summer of 2027.
As for pronouns, I do not use any specific pronouns, you may call me whatever you wish. Gender isn’t something I concern myself with.
This is my blog and I will post what I want. But I’ll probably mostly post sad things about being podless, attempt to connect with other cetaceans, updates about my transition, and pictures of the beach.
Anyone is welcome here, but if you bring harm to other beings, you will be blocked.
Got any tips for orca or other marine life therians out there?
For cetaceans:
If you want to vocalise, you can click your tongue against the bottom or roof of your mouth
You can also whistle. It’s not that close to actual vocalisation, but it’s the best we can get
For general marine life:
You can buy mermaid tails or monofins, since they resemble actual tails.
Go swimming, whether in a pool or a lake. I recommend knowing how to get to the surface and other safety stuff before that, though.
You can eat seafood or any food resembling your theriotype’s diet. Eg, crackers shaped like fish (visual), or sambosa with meat fillings (taste)
Interact with media featuring your theriotype. You can also make media featuring your theriotype, such as videos or games.
That is all I have. It’s little but so far it’s helped me well.
One thing I don’t recommend though is interacting with actual wildlife unless you’re in captivity. It’s dangerous and could and WILL kill you if you are not careful.
Especially if your theriotype is a large herbivore and/or capable of inflicting massive damage!
My alterhumanity, my sexuality, and my gender go flipper in flipper.
For me, my gender has always been messy. I was born a girl, but something was always… off. I had an intersex variation. And I am a male dolphin. I want to have the body of a male dolphin completely. This I guess puts me in the category of being transgender.
As for my sexuality, I don’t experience any sexual attraction to humans. Human body’s are gross and squishy. I do not want to see them, much less screw them. And I certainly don’t want to do it with a theriform dolphin, so I identify as asexual. But I do like women and wish to be in relationships with them.
Anyways, ohhh look pretty flags!
Hormonal Intersex
People who have hormonal intersex variations. I personally have hyperandroginism, which causes my body to produce more androgens (like testosterone) than intended.
Ocean Intersex
An intersex person who likes the aesthetics of, wishes to live in or near, or relates to the ocean.
Transspecies
When someone wants to change their species, usually human to nonhuman.
Common Bottle Nose Dolphin
A species flag for common bottle nose dolphins, I have personally known I was one since I was five years old
Trans Male Dolphin
A trans gender and/or species label where one specifically desires the body of a male dolphin. Not just a dolphin, not just a male, a male dolphin.
Ocean Lesbian
A flag for lesbians who like or associate themselves with the ocean. Just a variation of the lesbian flag.
Ocean asexual
An asexual person who associates themselves with the ocean. Just a variation of the asexual flag.
I have a question! As a cetacean myself I have had a pretty big feeling of loneliness that I guess I won't find a podmate in this life (someone that gets me, like a therian partner, hoping to have my same theriotype) and I wonder how other cetaceans feel about that. I admit I have run through the internet talking to other cetaceans trying to see if I can find common ground in other areas besides theriotype to possibly get to know on another as podmates, but no one here has really given me that spark. All my therian friends have met and married fellow kin and I guess I wish that for myself. I have maybe have had some developments recently (sorta offline?) and I'm excited yet cautious obvi. I wonder if your theriotype has affected the search for a mate and how you deal with that, thank you
Squeaks,
A fellow cetacean :>
Yea, it’s kind of hard. On one fin I crave connection, I crave a pod mate, someone who I can talk to and spend my time with.
But I’m also not at all attracted to human bodies. I would want a sexual relationship with the girl I’m dating, but I would struggle to feel attracted to them. I am of course not wanting a relationship with theriform animals, but it’s just hard to be into humans. I personally call myself asexual with a high libido. Because I want sex, and I think if I found another cetacean that was transitioning I would absolutely do it with them, but if my partner doesn’t want to be a dolphin, or orca, or whale of some form, I just couldn’t be more than romantic.
And that is hard! I have met lots of wonderful cetaceans here, but none near me. And I fear I’ll never meet one.
I’m not sure how to wrap this up… whatever, if you live near me and are in the whale family, hit me up.
Lovingly, you (or anyone wanting to integrate into a wild dolphin pod) may need to do some research regarding local laws and regulations. Some countries forbid humans from swimming with or approaching wild dolphins, and they may not understand the concept of therians. I don't want you to get in trouble <3
Oh, don’t worry, it’s fine where I live. Most people can’t swim the two miles out to where the dolphins usually are, but I can.
I'm Tilikum, Tokitae, and Winter factkin (all famous cetaceans) and I was wondering that if a plan like yours for going back to the wild might work for me
My plan so far is to become an orca trainer at SeaWorld Orlando and integrate with the pod there, but your plan seems a bit more up my alley
You think it's possible for me to at least become part of a pod of bottlenose dolphins?
I don’t see why not. If you can find a friendly pod, and the water is a temperature that you can handle without putting your life at risk, you might as well try.
So a little more detail on my plan, I want to get the dolphins accustom to my presence, slowly joining them in the water. This would be until I could fully swim with them without causing distress or hostility.
But I have, like you, considered working at an aquarium of some sort and integrating with that pod, but it seems less my style as well.
Also super cool fact types! I love factkins, I love being a factkins, we get too much hate.
if you dont mind, can you explain how youre going to be released into the wild and integrate into a wild pod? do you mean it literally, and if so, how's that gonna work?
Ok, there is a pod in OCMD (the place I’m moving soon) and they are very friendly to people and stay within 2 miles of shore.
So when I move there I’m going to paddle board out in the early morning, and bond with the pod. Then one day, I’ll just put on my fins and swim out there. Every day I’ll do that, I’ll swim with them until I can’t, then go back to the land.
I will live as much of my life as I can swimming with my pod.
Also, nice to see you Talanki, I’ve seen you around quite a bit!
