SAOIRSE RONAN as JO MARCH Little Women (2019) dir. Greta Gerwig
“I write because I don’t know what I think until I read what I say.”
— Flannery O’Connor (via bookmania)
When they asked her to reveal her beauty secrets, Audrey Hepburn wrote this beautiful text that was later read at her funeral.
′′To have attractive lips, speak kind words.
To have a loving look, look for the good side of people.
To look skinny, share your food with the hungry.
To have beautiful hair, let a child cross it with his own fingers once a day.
To have a beautiful poise, walk knowing you're never alone, because those who love and loved you accompany you.
People, even more than objects, need to be fixed, spoiled, awakened, wanted and saved: never give up on anyone.
Remember, if you ever need a hand, you'll find them at the end of both your arms. When you become old, you will discover that you have two hands, one to help yourself, the second to help others.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, in her face or in her way of fixing her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the door open to her heart, the source of her love.
The beauty of a woman doesn't lie in her makeup, but the true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the tenderness that gives love, the passion that it expresses.
The beauty of a woman grows over the years ′′

That’s a big deal, Bee! Can I come? - Where’d You Go, Bernadette (2019)
“My heart started racing, not the bad kind of heart racing, like, I’m going to die. But the good kind of heart racing, like, Hello, can I help you with something? If not, please step aside because I’m about to kick the shit out of life.”
— Maria Semple, Where’d You Go, Bernadette
it's not going to be easy for songhwa to open her heart again to ikjun. they've 20 freaking years between them. it must have been so hard for her to get over him & move on in life.
he was her first love. she probably knew the feelings are mutual between them. she waited & waited for him to make the first move but he didn't. he was too scared to bring love between their friendship.
must have been so hard for her to move on in her life pretending there's nothing between them. she saw him dating many other women. she saw him getting married & start a family.
getting over someone who's far away is easier. but not someone who's always in front of your eye & is one of your dearest friends who is always there for you. songhwa had to do that.
now when she's finally happy & content with her life, there comes ikjun's confession. 20 years late. how is she supposed to react? not only him. there's another guy too who genuinely likes her & has confessed. extremely overwhelming situation for her.
she might also think that since ikjun has got divorced recently, he is just being extra sensitive & songhwa is the best candidate for uju's mother.
so i suppose it's going to be a roller coaster ride for her emotions in the next season. won't be surprised if she actually rejects ikjun at first. because that will be her instant reaction to his confession obviously.
as for ikjun, his first scare regarding songhwa probably came at that moment when she underwent her cancer test. he reached the hospital even before her to collect her reports after completing his duty & without going home.
that moment maybe ignited his lingering feelings once again. second scare came when chihong told him he like songhwa & not iksun. after that we often see him hanging out with her & always asking her to eat out with him.
what finally strengthened his lingering feelings was the sight of songhwa sleeping peacefully with uju. two of the most cherished person in his life in complete peace with each other.
that triggered his first confession. which was sort of indirect. like how he enjoyed spending time with her doing such mundane activities.
he finally realised that this is the last chance he's is getting to confess his feelings. he cannot chicken this time in order to save his friendship. so he goes all out with his confession. even admitting this in front of the chihong & other juniors.
there's no going back for him now. after his heartfelt confessions, there's no way iksong can go back to being what they were. the journey ahead is going to be interesting.
“Don’t think about what can happen in a month. Don’t think about what can happen in a year. Just focus on the 24 hours in front of you and do what you can to get closer to where you want to be.”
— HPLYRIKZ.COM
Isn’t it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive–it’s such an interesting world. It wouldn’t be half so interesting if we know all about everything, would it? There’d be no scope for imagination then, would there?
Hospital Playlist | Song-hwa breaks camp
*SEASON 01 SPOILERS ALERT*
Remember you can find all the Hospital Playlist reviews/analysis filed in “hospital playlist reviews” tag at the end of the post.
I had a really hard time writing this analysis. Not because I didn’t have things to say about Song-hwa but because I feel everything related to her was so subtly done, I haven’t truly grasped her character yet. Jeon Mi Do gave an impressive nuance performance that makes me doubt about everything I *think* I know about this character. And, yes, we had moments centered around her but have we ever seen her POV about all the things that were happening? Looking back, I’m not sure.
Song-hwa is truly a “ghost”. She was everywhere, all the time, knew everything going on with her friends, residents and patients; and quietly looked after them. Let everyone resolve their problems on their own, at their own pace, watching over from afar but close enough to give them a push if they needed it.
At the same time, Song-hwa is perhaps the character that had it together from beginning to end. She has been very clear about what she wants, and conducted herself with nothing but friendliness and professionalism to everyone around her, yet people seem bend over backwards to make it difficult for her.
Do I think part of the reason she decided to leave for a year to work at Sokcho was because she didn’t like the attention she was getting at the hospital? Yes. I do. It wasn’t only her physical health, like she said, I believe it was also her mental and emotional health that needed a break. All this is conjecture, of course, but I honestly believe she needed to separate herself from having to spend a year rejecting unwanted advances and, also, from what was coming. Because, yes, Song-hwa saw Ik-jun’s confession coming from miles away.
Does Song-hwa have a weak spot for Ik-jun? Yes, that is more than clear. When he makes a statement about his feelings for her -subtly or directly- she can’t look him in the eye. Does Song-hwa love Ik-jun? Yes, he is one of her closest friends. Is Song-hwa in love with Ik-jun? I don’t know.
I feel like I’m still waiting to see her side of the story about what happened in 99 because so far we have only been told Ik-jun’s and, from what I am gathering by Song-hwa’s reaction at his confession, is that this heartbreak was brutal for her. It shaped her in more than one way, not only because they never were, but they also remained close friends for many years after. But life moves on and she did too, and became someone she’s happy to be, someone other people admire and like. Only for him to confesses 20 years later? I am kinda mad at that. I get why he’s doing it (more on that in another analysis) but what about her feelings?
I want to respect and support Song-hwa’s explicit desire to be single, and I welcome it because YAS! Writer Lee and Shin PD gave us a well rounded female character that it’s not defined by a romantic relationship but by her own personal and professional achievements. But that final scene made it clear things are going to shift for her in the next season and that moving, trying to avoid what was coming, didn’t work because it literally followed her all the way to Sokcho.
The season 1 finale of Hospital Playlist it’s actually the start of Song-hwa’s journey. True to herself, Song-hwa will keep on moving forward, the question is if it will be to reconnect with those old buried feelings or make a clean break. And for good this time.
I hadn't thought about it this way, but this makes so much sense!
what each character in hospital playlist ep 10 taught us:
Ik Jun - You’re never too old to play matchmaker for your good friends, even if it means A LOT OF SCHEMING, also you’re never too old to fall in love with your best-est friend <3 And also, be proud of your friends achievements and the good things they do
Jae Hak - Keep your head up even if you’ve fallen to the depths of hell and things just seem to be getting worse, do your best despite the shitty situation and you’ll be rewarded in the end, even if it seems like the smallest reward, but that’s enough, your efforts will be recognised and seen
Min Ha - JUST TELL HIM YOU LIKE HIM, NO BEATING AROUND THE BUSH, GET THE JOB DONE, ATTA GIRL
Song Hwa - Always be good to your team members, even the newer ones that make seemingly stupid mistakes and never bully them, treat everyone with kindness and respect and compassion. And also, sometimes buying yourself that wood stove is treating yourself, so BUY WHAT U WANT
Chairman Ju Jong-Su - Ignore your problems and they may go away, also please keep your eyes on the road and hands on the steering wheel when driving
Rosa - JUST SAY WHAT YOU ARE FEELING, SAY IT OUT LOUD
Jun Wan - Even if you hear important news about your girlfriend from another source, you should still be nice to her because you love her
Jeong Won - Do kind and nice things without having to broadcast and boast about what you did
All the old uncles in the GS department - Always celebrate the tiniest things in life because that’s the only way to stay happy, even if it means being nosy and celebrating the success of your youngest resident dating well XD
Uju - If you want something from your parent(s), wink at them and be cute
“but if i chicken out again and don’t tell her, i’ll regret it for the rest of my life.”
— ik jun’s three confessions to songhwa
If I chicken out again and not tell her, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life
If I chicken out again and not tell her, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life
What do you do for yourself? What’s a treat for you?
My heart ❤️
