When I was starting transition, I thought I wouldn't fit in with other trans women because I'm an academically-inclined lesbian with nerdy interests, and my only frame of reference for any trans women at all consisted of the most mainstream-friendly trans women alive: Conventionally attractive straight women who work as fashion models or actresses.

Turns out that in online trans spaces, once you get inside, people like me are pretty common. That's not something anyone outside these spaces is aware of, because trans women's thoughts, ideas and opinions are systematically not platformed in the mainstream.

And the conflation of "images of the type of person you are get a lot of attention" and "the views of your demographic are centered" is a pretty fucking sinister tactic, actually.

You see it on this website constantly, even, in how arguments against transfeminists barely engage with the substance of any transfeminist claims, in favor of arguing with an idea of transfeminism that's pretty much been imagined from first principles.

When we flee our countries, we hope that places like America and other democratic nations will be safe for members of the LGBTQ+ community. Right now, we are a group of transgender refugees in a camp in Africa, struggling to survive. We barely have access to food, medication, or basic necessities. Many of us are suffering from H.pylori infections due to unsafe drinking water and poor sanitation. We are also battling typhoid and malaria without access to proper medical care. On top of this, transphobia within the refugee camp prevents us from working or securing shelter, we are forced to sleep outside because we lack enough shelter to accommodate us which isn’t safe . Implies the agency responsible for passports is cross referencing with other documents and is not just denying new gender marker changes but will start forcibly reverting them to their original marker. Even if this is a notable escalation, it displays a serious devaluing of the violence faced by any invisible transfem, seeing as we are typically the canary in the coal mine.
