| Verse: What Well Meant Did |
" Elphaba you need to listen to me, I'm trying to save you. You have been trapped in here long enough. You saw it, you know it, this isn't real. We need to get you out of here.
Elphaba please, listen to me.
By Lurline, I'm so sorry.
Elphaba please, wait, listen to me, I-
Scarecrow had been casually caressing Elphaba's head, letting his stuffed fingers entwine in their hair as he did. Their head on his chest, one arm keeping them close, while his other held his book.
They had finally fallen alseep. As much as Scarecrow would like to credit himself the cause, tiring them out the night before, he knew well what a chronic insomniac they were. To the point he sometimes wondered if they were intended to be a sleepless creature such as he. Thus, when they did sleep, he was very careful to let them.
He looked down to them, snug against his stuff chest. Having fallen alseep on him, both wrapped in the beds blanket, he'd kept an arm around them to keep them close, his beloved Elphaba.
Time was something that could easily slip him, it seemed he was only staring at them for a second before the first ray of sunlight began to slip through the curtains of the window.
Moving them just a bit closer, Fiyero placed a kiss to the top of their head. His head a painted sack, painted to make a face, the kiss would be pressure to their forehead, but no less loving or tender. He also used this movement, to steer their head a little further away from the sunlight, not wanting this to wake them.
He knew well beings of meat could sleep for some time while the sun was up, and he would let Elphaba sleep well into the day if they could. They deserved the rest.
Thus, the Scarecrow held them close, and turned his painted face back to his book. Settling in to read for a few more hours before the activities of the day began.
At least, this is what he had assumed.
He had dealed with, practically bribed Malky to tell him if the kids neared their door. He had told the boys, in explicit detail, the events of Lurlinemast wouldn't begin until Aunt Nessa, Uncle Nick, Nanny, Shell, and Glinda had all arrived, so there was no need to wake early, well for the two in the household who did sleep. Yet, he knew them both young boys excited for the Holiday, so he had attempted to prepare.
For only five minutes after he had settled, just enough time for him to be fully engulfed in his reading while he held Elphaba close, two small boys snuck into the room. Half a minute more, if even that, suddenly they were both body slammed by said two young boys, one of meat and one of straw.
Both shouted in unison, Liir ending up landing on Elphaba's side while Scarecrow Jr. Landed on their feet, losing quite a bit of straw in the process.
"What did I tell you two?" Scarecrow shouted, with no real anger in his voice, hands going to rub the painted bridge of his nose.
"Not to wake you until at least Aunt Nessarose came." Junior said, adjustable his glasses as he placed them back on, and raising a finger as he quoted him directly, "And we didn't disobey you, she got here five minutes ago. See, we even gave you time."
This remark Scarecrow couldn't help but chuckle at. They were cute, and he really couldn't be upset with them for their excitement for the Holiday, he simply wished Elphaba had been allowed to sleep in more. And perhaps, a bit more alone time with them once they did wake.
He signed, relaxing against the wall of the bedroom. His arm remaining around Elphaba, he looked down at them. Offering a lopsided, apologetic smile.
"Well, Goodmorning dear." He told them, "Merry Lurlinemas."
