He told himself to stop being silly and just go inside. He wanted a bloody chocolate and there was absolutely no reason not to go to Honeydukes when he already was in Hogsmeade. Maybe she wasn’t even there in the first place and he was only wasting his time now. And even if… Even if she was there, he was fine now, he got over everything years ago. They were somewhat civil around each other so there was really no point of him not going in. Merlin, you’re ridiculous, he thought to himself as he finally opened the door to the shop. He was moving swiftly, wanting to just grab what he came for and leave as soon as possible. Everything was going too smoothly though and of course, of course, she had to be standing by the register. “H-hi,” he said in greeting. “Busy day, huh?”

When Ettie first noticed him entering the store, she was sure she was seeing things. Nick had been avoiding her for years now and she was pretty sure he had never entered Honeydukes when she was working. She missed him, but she knew that staying away from each other was the best for both of them. She bit her lower lip and looked at him shyly when he approached the counter. “Hello, Nick,” she greeted him. “It’s… It’s actually been slow so far, but I’m hoping it’ll pic up soon. So… What do you have?” She motioned at the items he was holding.

Caleb: I'm trying to decide on something to watch and wanted to know if you had any good suggestions.

Ettie: Asking about my favourite movie is like asking about my favourite candy

“Don’t look at me like you’re completely innocent here, I saw you with my own eyes and sure- maybe these rules are not written down, but it’s just basic manners, dude. Don’t double dip and don’t eat before you buy, next time I catch you I’m heimlich-ing those sugar mice out of your body.” Bailey warned the other, using a signal to show she was watching the other before turning round quickly and smacking her head off of someone’s body. “Woah- head rush, standing a little close there, bud. Anything I can help you with, or did you just come in here to give me a concussion?”

Ettie ignored all the questions for a moment as she turned towards the customer. “She didn’t mean any of that, sorry. Would you like to try anything else?” She quickly asked. When she finally turned towards Bailey, she was shaking her head. “Please don’t threaten anyone,” she muttered.

“That’s fair enough, you’d know when to say no to bets like these,” Lucinda agreed with a laugh. “Is it good? Do you think I’d have many people taking up my bet later on?” 

“Isn’t the whole purpose of this bet to not know how it tastes?” She raised an eyebrow at the other, offering her a little smile. “Makes it a bit more interesting, don’t you agree?”

Lucinda hovered around the aisles of Honeydukes, waiting for something to catch her eye before one of the more curious objects came into view, “Hypothetically, if I gave you ten galleons, would you eat that?” She asked to the person beside her, “Hypothetically, of course. I mean, it doesn’t look much worse than the original Bertie Bots, unless you’re scared?” 

"Well, since I work here, I think it would be a bit pointless for me to eat it,” she pointed out. She also had an idea how it tasted and wasn’t the biggest fan. “But good luck with someone else. Usually people show up around twelve, looking for an afternoon snack.”

“That thought probably doesn’t cross their minds. They’d rather risk it all to look good and become a walking ice cube then be practical. Even if it is as something as simple as charming a coat to be tiny like you said.” Rayna chuckled, “In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever thought about doing that before and I’m totally going to take it into account for when I need extra layers during the winter. That was a rather genius idea of yours, Ettie.”

“Well, it’s really natural selection, isn’t it? People more concerned with their well-being are more likely to survive,” Ettie pointed out. She rarely thought about such things, but the conclusion was pretty obvious. “Isn’t it the simplest thing to do? And you can always charm a sweater and put it back in your bag.”

Rayna couldn’t help but chuckle under her breath at her brothers friends comments, “I’ve never saw the appeal of suffering because of the cold just to look good. I’d come out to a party in a duffel coat and beanie if I didn’t think people would tut at me, these will be all the people who will finding men to steal coats off come later on in the night. Doesn’t really help the typical woman stereotypes, but I just know it’ll happen.”

"Tell me about it,” Ettie shook her head. While she was also wearing a skimpy and sparkly top, she was bundled up so tightly that it was barely visible. There was no chance she was going to take off her coat until she was in some warm place. “Why not have something tiny in your bag and just charm it later on? I wouldn’t risk it if I were them.”

“A few yes, but most of them are with their significant others,” Harper replied. “Have you seen Aryana though? I’ve been on the search for her.”

"Ah, I see,” Ettie nodded her head with understanding. She had seem some of her friends out and about, but they all seemed either busy with conversations or on their way to meet with someone. “I’m afraid I haven’t seen her. Maybe send her a message instead of searching blindly? Finding her would be much easier that way.”

Chase put an arm around his friend, wanting to make sure she was warm and comfortable. “It was nothing, you would do the same for me,” he replied with a smile. “Well, I don’t think he would fight you, more like glare and steal me right back,” Chase chuckled.

Ettie pouted and moved a little closer to her friend. “Guess it’ll be just be me and a glass of champagne sharing an intimate moment tonight,” she sighed, then took a sip of her warm drink. “I do demand a kiss on the cheek before you go look for him though.”

“Wait– you’re a Flume?” Nate asked, “That makes a lot more sense now. I used to dream about living in Honeydukes when I was wee.” Surrounded by sweets and chocolates– almost seemed like the perfect place to grow up. “It also sounds painful,” he pointed out, narrowing his eyes as he tried to come up with another solution. “How about caffeine? Does that run in your veins too?”

"It’s not some mystical land full of candy, I can assure you of that. But it is a magical place,” she said proudly. Ettie could not imagine living her life in any other place. Honeydukes was every kid’s dream and she was lucky enough to be a part of it. “Caffeine often makes me sleepy. It’s a bit weird, but it’s either that or I’m energetic for five minutes and then I crash.”

“The only reason you keep me around is to get closer to Moose, huh?” Caleb asked in a teasing manner. “That’s not a bad way to look at it. But you always find a way to find the good in things, don’t you?” he observed, wishing he could be a little more positive in his daily life. “I often feel pretty indifferent to New Years, they all come and go so fast. But I’m sure 2025 will find ways to surprise me and keep me on my toes. Should we get a drink or maybe hit up some of the food stalls?”

"Oh definitely, that has always been my main goal. And maybe to see your dimples whenever you smile,” Ettie grinned cheekily. Caleb was always so easy to be around that she enjoyed spending time with him whenever she had the chance. “That’s how life is - unpredictable. And you get less wrinkles if you don’t worry so much,” she said with a little smile. It was so much easier for her to welcome the day with a smile than with a frown. “Sure, I’m definitely in a mood for something bubbly. What do you fancy getting?” Ettie asked as she started walking towards the stalls.

“You’re still sleepy after three bags?” Nate questioned the other, “Merlin your sugar tolerance must be high. I’m surprised you don’t feel sick.” That much sugar was surely not good for someone, Nate thought. “Oh that’s not a good idea either. Surely there must be a better way of keeping you awake? Like spraying you with cold water but then immediately using a drying spell? That might work.”

"I suppose it’s how you can easily recognise a Flume. We have sugar in our veins,” Ettie joked. Her whole family, well, almost whole, could eat as much candy as they wanted without feeling sick. It sort of felt like a requirement if one wanted to work at Honeydukes. “It does sound like my rubber band idea is a bit easier to execute,” she pointed out.

“I could say the same,” he teased back, glad to see her. “Moose is around here somewhere,” he chuckled, knowing his dog wasn’t far behind but still liked to wander a little. “How are you feeling? Excited to ring in a new year?”

"You do know that once I see him, I’m not letting him go, right? He’s my partner in crime this evening,” she grinned. She was always happy to see Caleb’s dog and was eager to caress his fluffy fur. “It’s a yes and no. This year has been pretty good to me so I’m both sad to say goodbye and excited to see what the future brings. How about you?”

"I ate three bag of candy earlier today and yet my eyes are already closing. I think my body doesn’t react to sugar anymore and I feel like a total grandma who can’t stay awake until midnight,” Ettie muttered. “This is my latest idea,” she pointed at the rubber band on her wrist.

"Thanks for the hot cocoa, I don’t think I would manage to through the crowd of all those people,” Ettie sighed and put her head on Chase’s arm. “Will your boyfriend fight me if I steal you for the midnight kiss?”
