“I’m technically at work right now and bringing this back from the muggle world, because as you can see, it definitely shouldn’t be among muggles.” Penelope commented, gesturing the object? Creature? She honestly didn’t know what it was and she was just pretending that she knew what it was in order to look professional. “However the person I was sent out with, decided they wanted to take a break and left me with this thing.”

“Did they not give you anything to keep it in until you got back to the office?” Lucinda asked, if it were that easy to agitate it definitely shouldn’t be left around where anyone could touch it. “What a nice time for a break, leaving you with it in case anything happened to go wrong.”

“Can I help you?” Maddie asked in a voice that was entirely too chirper to be real. She was still getting the hang of this whole customer service thing. “No pressure, though! If you want to browse that’s cool too, but I’m totally here to help.”

“Yes, actually!” Lucinda exclaimed, answering the others question. It had been her first time visiting the store and she was excited to see what their offerings were. “I’m looking for something for a birthday party, do you have any suggestions?”

“I was just trying to help out and move it out of the way,” Lucinda retorted in defence to herself, “The better question is why do you have something that makes this just out in the public for anyone to touch?”

“Alright, alright–,” Ingrid raised her hands up in defense at Lucinda’s response. “We can absolutely take turns with the purchases. Just let me know when you’re ready to go.”

“I’d clear my schedule in an instant for you, Ingrid! Whenever you’re free, I’m free. Kelly guarantee.” She promised with a light laugh, “Should we make a list of everywhere we want to go?”

Griffin happily reciprocated the hug, already feeling a weight off his chest as he saw the other smile. It was getting a lot easier the more he did it. “You’re one of my closest friends, so of course I trust you,” he said with a smile. “I feel… pretty great, actually. Thank you for being so supportive, I guess.” 

“How do you think I would have reacted? I’ll always support you, for anything.” Lucinda promised, feeling eternally glad that they had the kind of relationship where he felt comfortable to tell her anything.  “That’s good! Have you told anyone else?”

“How would you like to go for a nice shopping day and dinner, Luce? On me, of course,” Ingrid suggested to her friend with a smile. “Things have been incredibly dire lately and I feel like we should try and cheer ourselves up however we can. Besides, we can shop and dine locally to support everyone at the same time,” she pointed out. “Sound good?”

“That sounds like the most perfect day,” She agreed with Ingrid, especially after what the both of them- and everyone else, had gone through they definitely needed some kind of relaxation. “But I’m not asking you to pay for it all, come on, we share! At least let me pay for our dinner cocktails.”

“Absolutely not. You could be one hundred and six and still implement it though you might need some thick reading glasses,” Trixie said, laughing. She couldn’t help but grin, “They absolutely do when I have anything to say about it.”

“Maybe even a double set, one to wear and the reading glasses sitting on my head for when it gets just a little bit too difficult. I think I’d absolutely rock the look, maybe even with the glasses straps?” Lucinda suggested. “As you should! Merlin, I can’t imagine how stressful it would be when they don’t follow their contracts.”

“Only if you’re sure,” Aryana said in response to Lucinda offering to stick around with her. “I don’t want you to feel like you have to,” she added. Not in a tone that asked for any sort of pity, but rather in one that understood these were weird times and everyone wanted to retreat back into their own shell to recover. “I’ve still got some stuff on hold for you at the shop by the way,” Arya brought up, trying to change the topic so they could think about something else even for a moment. “Let me know when you wanna stop by and finally make the purchase– because you and I both know you’re totally just delaying the inevitable,” she added with a light laugh.

“Of course I’m sure, no one should be alone, especially not right now.” She replied, everyone was feeling nervous and scared. The fear would only grow by the solitude. Lucinda laughed at the comment, Aryana was more than right; it was less convincing herself into it but more convincing herself out of it and Lucinda never won that battle. “You just know me too well. When’s your next shift? I’ll make sure all the purchases are under your employee number.”

“Okay but you have got to try this wine,” Candice said, “I don’t know where it comes from or how old it is because I’m not any kind of connoisseur but it is simply gorgeous. I think I’m gonna have to find out where I can buy it and get a whole case and you will think the same. Care for a glass?”

Lucinda wasn’t much of a wine connoisseur in any sort of way, usually when she was drinking there wasn’t much care in what was actually in her cup. “Is this a mix with orange juice type of wine?” Lucinda asked the other. “I’ll have a try- maybe you can take a bottle to one of the wine shops and they might be able to tell you where to get more?” Lucinda suggested to the other

“Yeah I… I absolutely dread thinking about what they are most likely planning next but we just need to focus on putting up a stronger wall. Being able to protect ourselves better for the next time could help. Like I know we’ve got aurors and everyone doing the most but… I think we need to be doing even more. You know?” Aryana sighed a little, more frustrated than anything. “Thanks. You’re welcome to use it, free of charge,” she teased trying to keep a light attitude despite how terrifying their situation was. “Yeah she’s okay. She’s going to take me back to my apartment actually before she comes back here to treat people,” she admitted. “Do you need a place to crash? You can stay at mine no problem.”

“You’re right, there isn’t anything we can do by just thinking about everything else that could go wrong,” Lucinda agreed with the other with a sigh, “I’m not sure there’s anything we can do, I mean, I certainly don’t have any skills of that kind to be able to do anything.” She replied, sure she was strong in the muscular sense but Lucinda wouldn’t have a clue on how to actually combat the problems. “Oh, thank you so much, you’re much too kind.” Lucinda teased, a small laugh breaking across her features for the first time since everything went so wrong. “That’s good- I’m really glad she’s okay.” She replied, “I should be okay, I think I’ll stay with Merinda in case she’s not but I can stay with you until Harper comes back if you need the company?”

“I live by the motto that there’s always time to read,” Trixie replied with a smile, “Just remind them that they have a contract. Flourish and Blotts is quite good at putting consequences in their contracts. Usually involves a pay cut.”

“That is a perfect motto to live by, do you think it’s too late to implement that in my own life?” Lucinda asked, she did love reading but barely had the time to actually immerse herself into the books that she chose. “That’s good, that you’re able to stand up for yourself in that way when faced with those kinds of situations. Is the vast majority following their schedules?”

“Yeah everyone seems to be okay– thank Godric,” Merinda sighed with relief. “Oh? You know what as much as going home sounds nice, I feel like there’d be some comfort in seeing a few faces and being able to know they’re okay for real… you know?” she admitted when Lucinda told her about those meeting up at The Three Broomsticks. “We don’t have to go if you don’t want to though.”

Lucinda let out a sigh of relief at the news, so much had gone wrong in such a small span of time that she couldn’t imagine anything else going wrong especially to her sister or their friends. “Absolutely, it’ll be good to see everyone safe- I wouldn’t have suggested it if I didn’t want to go.” Lucinda agreed with Merinda, putting an arm around her as they started to walk in the direction. “Maybe they have some leftover cakes out for everyone to make everyone feel a touch better, that sounds like a good dinner to me.”

“We might have to take five… one of our beaters looks like they’re about to puke up their own stomach,” Laurel commented to her teammate and captain as they jogged alongside one another. “She should know better than to eat a heavy lunch before team workouts though… don’t you think?”

“Wait- seriously?” Lucinda asked, looking behind them as she ran beside Laurel. “I don’t know how many times I’ve told her to have a light breakfast before practice. No one is stopping her from having the pancakes after we finish.” She said with a sigh as she stopped jogging- Lucinda didn’t want anyone to be throwing up on her watch. “Okay, let’s take a break, ten minutes.” Lucinda called to their team, shaking her head slightly. “Do you want to grab some water?”

“That goes right back at you,” she insisted to her sister. While she knew Lucinda would always look out for her, Mer knew she needed to look out for Lucinda because she’d never give that same attention to herself. “While I’d love nothing more than to get out of here, is there anyone we need to help? Like any of your friends stuck in a building or something? I don’t want to leave someone behind if we can help or send aurors their way.”

Lucinda shook her head, “No, I’ve messaged everyone- they’re all safe. Are all of your friends okay?” Lucinda asked, glad that it was a sentence she was able to say. Lucinda would have been an absolute mess if it were the opposite. “Do you want to go straight home or stop by the Three Broomsticks? Ingrid said there were a few people meeting there, we can see if everyone’s okay?”

“Er– I’m pretty sure,” Griffin laughed as the other made a face. “I hope it will,” he gave a half-hearted grin. “Well, since we’re at Pride, and you’re my friend and you support me… I thought I’d tell you I’m bisexual,” he told the other, feeling that rush once again that he felt when he told others.

Maybe Lucinda should have been clued into what the news was considering the event that they were at, however Lucinda didn’t have any clue until it was actually spoken. A large smile moved across her features as she moved forwards and pulled him into a hug, “I’m so happy for you, Griffin, thank you for trusting me to tell me.” She spoke, “How do you feel?” Lucinda then asked, concerned for the nerves that she was fairly certain he would be feeling, but those nerves would have been wasted on her.
