specifically SPECIFICALLY lesbians who were told time and again they weren’t feminine enough or that they were undesirable and gay men who were constantly mistreated for not being masculine enough. for little girls who played in the dirt and boys who wanted to dress up. for other people like me who have been bullied since we were five. it feels like there’s no one in the world like us but i see you and i love you

ESPECIALLY Black butch lesbians and Black eccentric gay men who have always paved the path for our acceptance and rights, even to this very day. For pressing the boundries of what love, sex, and gender could look like, for making history by reconstructing how gender and sexuality can be experienced, for showing the rest of us, for the community that you built on your backs with blood, sweat, and tears. For doing all that even despite how little credit you receive, despite how much harder homophobia and transphobia fell on you for having the audacity to be Black and LGBT. For STILL doing all that to this very day. The racism rampant around us often left you to be ignored while the rest of us benefited by the comparison you gave and in fact made us more palatable- an act the LGBT as a community has never acknowledged. But today, we thank and acknowlede you, your sacrifices, and leaps of progress we made because of you and NEVER could have without you.
