Re: the pastry discourse 

On the left some “pains au chocolat” (パン・オ・ショコラ) which literally means chocolate bread—in this case, bread with chocolate baked in it. 

On the right some “chocolatines,” (チョコラティン) which are a kind of pastry—puff pastry with one or two bars of melty chocolate goodness in the middle. 

This is the Proper Terminology. (That’s the hill I’m going to die on) 

Viennoiserie vocabulary:  (the Japanese ones with an asterisk are invented, since they have no ‘official’ translation)

Viennoiseries ↠ パイ シイートとブリオッシュの小さいケーキ ↠ all the puff-pastry and brioche-based treats you can buy in a boulangerie. (Apparently, Officer August Zang brought Austrian pastries like kipferl—a vintage Austrian croissant, to Paris around 1838. Things took off from there.)

can we take a moment to just think about how incredibly scary magical healing is in-context?

You get your insides ripped open but your friend waves his hands and your flesh just pulls back together, agony and evisceration pulling back to a ‘kinda hurts’ level of pain and you’re physically whole, with the 100% expectation that you’ll get back up and keep fighting whatever it was that struck you down the first time.

You break your arm after falling somewhere and after you’re healed instead of looking for ‘another way around’ everybody just looks at you and goes “okay try again”.

You’ve been fighting for hours, you’re hungry, thirsty, bleeding, crying from exhaustion, and a hand-wave happens and only two of those things go away. you’re still hungry, you’re still weak from thirst, but the handwave means you have ‘no excuse’ to stop.

You act out aggressively maybe punch a wall or gnash your teeth or hit your head on something and it’s hand-waved because it’s ‘such a small injury you probably can’t even feel it anymore’ but the point was that you felt it at all?

Your pain literally means nothing because as long as you’re not bleeding you’re not injured, right? No i’m not dead from the dragon’s claws but I can’t even bend my torso anymore because of how the scar tissue grew out of me like a vine.

Magical healing is great and keeps casualties down.

Or maybe magical healing doesn’t leave scars or damage. It is magical, after all.

So after years of fighting, your skin is still perfect. Unmarred. In fact, you’re actually in better shape than regular people who don’t get magical healing when they fall out of trees or walk into doors or cut themselves while cooking dinner. You’re in such good shape that it’s unnatural.

And the really good healing magic takes away more than just the obvious injuries. You first start noticing it after about ten years when you go home and haha, you look the same age as your younger sibling, that’s funny.

Not so funny ten years later when they look older. Or forty years later, when you bury them still looking like you did at twenty. When do you retire from this gig anyway? How much damage is too much damage?

How many times do you glimpse the afterlife, or worse, how many times don’t you? What do you live through, get used to, show no outward sign of except a perfectly healthy body, too perfect for any person living a real life.

How many times are you sitting in a tavern with your friends and you hear the whispers, because the people around you know. How can they not know? Your weapons shine with enchantments and your armour is better than the best money can buy and there is not a damn scar on you. You hardly seem human to them.

How long before you hardly seem human to yourself?

And you find yourself struggling to remember the places where the scars should have been, phantom pains that wake you screaming, touching all the old injuries and finding nothing there. It’s all in your head. Was it ever anywhere else?

How long before you’re fighting a lich or a vampire or some other undead monster and you wonder…

Feeling is essential to a man. I want to become a man with his own atmosphere. Among the members, I’m not very talkative. Just like in our song “BOY IN LUV”, doesn’t that make me very manly? (laugh) My ideal type of girl is already very obvious, she has to be very good at eating. If there was a girl that I liked, I want to quietly watch her eat to her heart’s content. If a friend and I liked the same girl, I will try my best to win her over. If my friend won, then I will sincerely congratulate them, because if I won, I hope to receive my friend’s blessing as well.

Suga: “If I like a girl, I want to listen to everything she has to say.”

Although it’s uncommon, but I think that girls who are good at computers are really cool. I, myself, is pretty good with machinery, or fixing furniture and other handy jobs. Hence, people like to call me as “manly” or something, but I’m actually just good with my hands, and I prefer doing everything myself. If I like someone, I would first want to understand what kind of person she is, so I want to listen and know more about her. Rather than talking a lot about myself, I prefer listening to what other people have to say. However, to be called as a “man” is still a little early. When I look manliest is right after I wash my face and take care of my skin. Like this (patting his cheeks), “pat pat”, I was told by Jungkook that I “look like a real man” (laugh). A man’s thoughts is very hard to understand. Perhaps, spending a whole life thinking how to become manlier is a man’s true thoughts. Ah, a girl’s mind is even more complex and difficult to understand (laugh). After all, men prioritize friendship first. However, although I’m saying that but if there was someone that I liked, I will fight to the very end for love. That is something that cannot be helped. Please ask me this question 8 years later!  Maybe at that time I will be able to give you a more cool answer.

Thinking that girls are cute or something, of course it happens! (laugh) Thoughts like “this girl has a beautiful smile” or “this person’s hobbies are really weird but interesting”, these are all very cute to me. I would always be looking for her charisma/charming point. If I had someone that I liked, I’ll definitely be the one to confess. To find an opportunity to confess, I’ll think of all the ways to be in the same space as her. Even if I don’t get the response that I wanted, if that is her decision then I respect it. Even accepting the bad outcomes, now that’s a real man! Among the members, the manliest member is Suga Hyung. He has a vast knowledge and can fix anything.

One of the most important things to a man is their pride. No matter the situation, I have to keep my confidence. So in front of the girl I like, I would wear clothes that show my own style, and bravely ask, “What do you think of me?” This is because I am really interested in fashion, besides, appearance is important right? If my friend and I liked the same person, then maybe I’ll put friendship first. However, I still don’t want to give up… My feelings will be really conflicted. Something manly about me? That is, my strong and unique gaze (laugh). I’m also very straight-forward. There’s a lot of other cool points about me, I hope that everyone can discover them!

Generally, I seem to be fairly good at everything I do, but for love and relationships… (laugh). Towards the girl I like, I don’t know why but I’ll develop a sense of competitiveness.
