rosalind:
to ask rosalind to pinpoint EXACTLY what it was about people her age that made her so nervous, would leave you with less answers than you began with. this was a prime example — this brunette, whose legs seemed to rocket her into the sky, left her uncomfortable. but, she knew that she would’ve felt bad to leave someone to sit on the lumpy beanbags or in a part of the library with way less lighting. so here she was, jaw slightly ajar as the girl settled in. “it’s nice to meet you,” she said, offering a small smile. her words were something her mother said she should say upon meeting new people, not necessarily something she MEANT. “i’m rosalind,” she supplied, realizing it had been quite a long silence since a word had been spoken, “and i’m kinda all over the place. spend a lot of time in here and on the quad, i suppose.”
“ you, too, ” she added. one by one, abigail began to remove her belongings from her handbag. once she had her books, notes, and laptop set up into working position, she suddenly had no desire to study. letting out a deep sigh, abigail leaned back in her chair — rosalind’s words set off a sort of lightbulb in her head when she finally remembered an encounter she had with the other girl. “ oh, wait, yes, you’re right ! i’m pretty sure i’ve seen you on the quad. i was walking by you with my boyfriend and he said hi to someone you were standing there talking to. there was, like, a couple of goofy guys with you, i think ? ” she thought about it for another second, trying to recall that past moment. abigail let out a quiet laugh, hoping it would rub off on rosalind and make her smile. “ i don’t know .. is this ringing a bell or was that a dream ? ”
