“Who would have thought? Not me. That’s definitely who.” Simon looked over at Isabelle, suddenly nervous like he had just met her. He remembered how that had been. Beautiful as she was and fierce and stunning, she had intimidated him then. She still did — and he liked that about her. She was the physical embodiment of fire without any of the destructive tendencies. She was warm rain on a summer day and fresh snow in winter. She was all the things that were wonderful and special and made life worth living. And she was with him now. “I think I still don’t believe it. Some days, I swear, I am still afraid your brother is lurking around a corner, arrow on his bow, aiming for my head if I try anything.” A weird imagery if you considered that since recently, they were engaged to be married. The words sounded so adult and mature and important. Most of all, they sounded like he was dreaming and supposed to wake up any minute.
