“ oof - sorry about that. i thought it was a sign … the only one left was my favorite flavor, ” she says, “ i’m pretty sure one of the pa’s just sprinted off for another box - so i wouldn’t be surprised if it’s filled back up in twenty minutes. and then they’re all yours. ”
MAI TILTS HER HEAD GENTLY, “what flavor? if it was blueberry, then i totally forgive you.” she lets out a sigh of relief, happy o hear she wouldn’t totally be missing out on her daily donut. “oh, amazing! i was going to be terribly disappointed.”
it wasn’t a normal day for jesse if he didn’t stop and get his regular iced coffee from the on set coffee shop. he’d tried it from so many different places but no one ever got his order right the way the barista, matthew, did. it was common to run into other actors there, it’s where he’d made a lot of his friends from various shows, while jesse typically was friendly, some mornings he was crankier than others. needing that extra boost from being on set since before sunrise.
“fancy meeting you here, haven’t seen you since what… yesterday?” he teased the customer that popped up behind him.
HER ORDER IS RELATIVELY SIMPLE. a black coffee that she sweetens with three packets of raw sugar and a few drops of cream. mai’s mornings needed to be as easy as possible -- and that started with the perfect, minimum effort coffee. as far as the baristas are concerned, she’s one of the easiest to please. the girl pulls on a small smile, looking at her cast mate as she stirs her coffee.“ what is it, like -- not even 17 hours ago? i’m seeing too much of you at this point, jesse.”
“Because my abs aren’t camera-ready. And by that I mean they don’t exist.” Freddie gave her a little chuckle as if he made a joke, but he was being serious. His entire career was based on doing ridiculous things to make teenage girls drool. Including that super weird Christmas album, but Fred doesn’t talk about the super weird Christmas album. The point is, his image was tied to being good looking, and if he wasn’t in shape for the shirtless scene, TMZ would start wild guesses about eating disorders, falling off the wagon… It’s a whole thing on itself. “Either way, lets wait and see.”
A LIGHT LAUGH ESCAPES HER LIPS, “well, i am surprised. i always pegged you as the guy with a strict work out regimen at least, stricter than mine is at the moment.” really, mai’s workout routine is just a morning jog, if she has time. in this industry, almost anyone has a better structured workout plan than she does. “i’m sure they’ll give you time. if you want, i’ll flub on my scenes a bunch of times so yours gets pushed back to tomorrow. though, i don’t know how much extra time that gives you.”
AS MUCH AS MAI COULD APPRECIATE A GOOD day onset, today in particular, she found herself ready to head home as soon as she sat in the makeup chair. she lets out a small yawn, making her way to the catering table to find something to eat for breakfast. “ did you eat the last donut?” she questions the person beside her, a gentle pout on her lips. “how could you -- ?” she’s obviously not too offended about her missed opportunity. “i get 3 hours of sleep last night and this is how you treat me? how cruel.”
“Look, I swear I’m not trying to be a diva here, but does this scene really, reaaaaally call for Huck to be shirtless?” It’s not that he was a moralist or something of the sort, but Frederick had no idea there would be scenes like this, otherwise he would’ve reestablished his gym subscription, and maybe leave the snack table be… “Maybe we could shoot it later? Hello? Great…” His producer just hung up on his face. Fred sat down on the studio’s reception cough and looked to the one next to him. “Producers right? Can’t live with them, can’t live without’em.”
FLIPPING OVER THE MOST RECENT EDIT of freight factor script for the next episode, mai tries to ignore fred’s conversation over the phone. but, she’d be lying if she said she weren’t eavesdropping just a little bit. she lets out a gentle laugh, “i mean, personally i think it’s definitely necessary. but i’m not the producers.” she shrugs, a gentle smile faintly on her lips. “why don’t you want to shoot it today? i mean is it really all that bad? at least you’re not running from a killer today.”
Jasmine rolled her eyes as she passed her phone to the person sitting next to her, “Can you believe this?” the brunette questioned. “This girl I was friends with in high school just sold photos from a sleepover in 2009 to TMZ and now they’re on the top page” she grumbled, slightly annoyed, “What do you think I should do? Post some of her as revenge?” she questioned with a sickeningly sweet smile.
CAREFUL NOT TO DISRUPT her perfectly red lined lipstick, mai carefully places hot cheetos one by one into her mouth. she leans over, peering at the girl’s phone as she shows it off to her. “oh-- ew..” she shutters. “they’re not.. raunchy are they? that one’s actually kinda cute.” she replies, tucking her hair behind her ear. mai pauses, thinking a moment before replying. “hm.. sue her for everything she’s got? that seems like the best revenge, if you ask me.”
hyulari ! | look at those camera’s flash for actor’s mai pham ( her/she) ! the twenty-one year old television star is famous for their role as summer nguyen in the hit show: freight factor. the tabloids portray them as being secretive and quick-tempered, however they are actually very perceptive and selfless. seeing them always reminds me of candy glossed lips, fresh strawberries, and the perfect cat eye.
hollaa! i’m literally too excited about this rp. like and/or hmu to plot? i’m also elias’ mun so we can work out plots for the both of them! it’s kinda short and condensed so hopefully it makes since. i am about to run offline for a lil while but i sWear i’ll get to everyone’s ims/intros asap
tl;dr: a bit of a spoiled rich girl, so fame came easy. mai’s extremely focused on her success as an actress to prove to her family that she’s got a real career. will do whatever it takes to get a leg up in the acting world. her parents (being conservatives) aren’t crazy about their daughter acting rather than doing something scholarly so she’s out to prove them wrong and shed the good girl image in the process.
more in-depth:
daughter to two immigrant parents who later became local political officials in a small town in texas. very affluent, veryyy well loved. their family have very squeaky clean images ( think: the kennedys? kindaaaa? even more perfect and celebrity.) mai grew up with whatever she wanted in a giant house raised by mostly nannies and her tutors due to being homeschooled.
classic rich girl vibes: violin lessons, private tennis lessons, all that jazz
rather gifted in writing, originally planned on becoming an english professor from a very young age.
she, however, fell into acting when she was around thirteen in local theaters. and fell in love despite her parents not really taking this hobby seriously at all. which was quite the opposite of the reception she was receiving from directors and peers who thought she had a bright future in the industry.
so she did the classic mY PaREnTs DoN’t GEt mE actress thing
moved to new york when she was exactly 18 and tried her hand in off-broadway theater. spoiler: this did not go.... as planned.
reaLLy plummeted, couldn’t land an audition. she was quite lucky her parents still kept her credit card working ( because lbr they figured she’d come back home sooner or later ). she really wouldn’t have made any money for the first year.
got a small job at a little theater to try to command her own money
but finally she struck gold.
well kind of. she got a few parts in tiny little plays here and there while taking more acting classes
finally found a manager willing to help her with her career and linked her to a bunch of auditions ( which, ofc she didn’t land any for awhile )
her first serious audition she landed in season two of freight factor! got flown to los angeles, and was immediately skyrocketed into the public eye. this time, not overshadowed by her parent’s name -- but of her talents and passions.
