The First Stop [Solo]

Cora released a heavy breath as she put her car in park. She leaned back against the driver's seat and closed her eyes, needing a moment to organize jumbled thoughts. It was still difficult for her to fathom how many years had gone by since she had been home, if she could even call Beacon Hills that anymore. The nerves that twisted her stomach into knots was an indication of something she had long forgotten, more like surpressed. A feeling she hadn’t felt in nearly a decade – a feeling of a young girl who felt lost and alone in two different worlds. 

Her eyes gradually opened when she inhaled a sharp breath, building up her courage to exit her vehicle. As she opened her car door and placed one foot out, there was a brief pause. Cora’s eyes locked onto the passenger seat with a bouquet of flowers resting there. With a soft sigh she grabbed the flowers and got out without further stalling.

She approached the familiar tree within the woods and silently stood before it. A limited, sad smile pulled at her soft pink stained lips before she knelt to place the flowers against the tree's base. Cora reached out and pressed a hand against the tree’s trunk, her thumb carefully caressed against the bark. 

“It’s been a while, and I’m sorry”, she stated delicately. “I can’t lie to you. Life got a hold of me, I lost track of the time, but I’m here now”. Cora went silent, as if she was expecting a response, but she knew it wasn’t going to come though she wished it did. “I have my own business. Shocking, right? I – opened a couple gyms around the country. Other wolves, vamps, even witches use it to spar or learn to fight. It’s been a hit so far, but we’ll see what happens when the numbers come back at the end of the quarter”. She felt ridiculous talking to herself, but there was a small part of her that accepted the cathartic aspect to it. 

Cora licked her lips as she went silent again, hating the fact she was talking to nothing when all she wanted was to talk to her best friend, again. She swallowed down her feelings, not wanting to get overly emotional, but focused on the realization she was alone and there was no need to shy away from what she wanted to say.

“I wish you were here, Boyd”.
