her grin didn’t falter, his words nothing more than an
empty threat. underneath it all, ira davies was just a
man, and MEN rita knew how to handle. rita knew
exactly how to get what she wanted, how to TAKE
what she wanted, had grown up doing just that, and
this, she wanted this.
“ yes, well, i suppose you’re right about
that, it is a pity, isn’t it – my father never
was a household name, i haven’t had the
same EASY experience as my peers, but,
it is true what they say ” she paused, eyes
glinting, challenging, “ it’s hard to ruin a
hard worker. ”
“ well you’re very INTERESTING, aren’t you? ”
he said with a laugh, the crinkles around his
eyes defined as he offered a kind smile.
the way he stood, the way he appeared when unprepared, it was mostly
all a physical defense to seeming unintelligent or anxious. the man was
naturally composed, carrying himself with utmost poise as a result of his
high class upbringing — due mostly to his mother’s watchful eye than his
father’s abusive behavior. but because he wished to remain unassuming
toward those around him, he moved with a slight hunch and lazy shoulders.
there were times, however, where he had been taken by surprise and his body
would straightened in a defensive manner.
that didn’t happen during this conversation.
he was more than comfortable.
“ determination is a very important trait.
i’m glad to see that you have it. surely it
will do W O N D E R S in the near future. ”
“ but i really must be off, miss. skeeter.
as much as i’ve enjoyed our conversation,
i’ve made a few promises that i need to uphold. ”
