“that’s mostly why i’m here, yes.” a smile spread on her lips, she would have never thought someone would grasp the idea of it so easily. there were some, that just saw the place as one to just have their things and leave within the minute. but not her, obviously. “i find it interesting, that’s all.” a glance was taken to the cover of her book, and she couldn’t help but think how observant the guy was. “spacetime relativity and quantum physics–– but in short, yeah physics.” the book was rather extensive and heavy looking, “some light reading before starting my next term.”
“It doesn’t hurt that the coffee here is excellent, of course. And the pastries. I quite like the cinnamon rolls. They’re good for a quick snack.” He took the cup he had previously set down and took a sip of his coffee. He nodded along as she spoke about physics. Though he had spent most of his time concentrated on other subjects, it was always an interesting area of study, explaining much about the universe. “A great way to spend the day. Learn something new, get a head start for your class. It’s quite efficient, if you think about it.”

The visits to Victor’s office always broke up the monotony of her days. It provided an outlet that was something other than training and working out. She knew he worried about her, but she was determined to show him that she could handle herself out in the real world. Agatha nodded her head, brushing a strand of her hair behind her pierced ear. “Yep. I’m almost desperate at this point.” Agatha laughed at herself before nodding. “I always do, Vic.” The girl grinned. “The shop a few corners away. Close to Mikkel’s.”
“Why are you desperate? I don’t see the need. You have a lot of time. Anyone would be lucky to date you, and the boys who scurry away are boys not worth your time,” Victor said, his tone calm, every word stated as if it were fact. “Good. It’d be a waste if you didn’t.” Despite all the worrying, he did trust that his sister knew what she was doing for the most part. He held Agatha in high esteem, and respected many of the decisions she had made over the years. “Mikkel. Are you still in contact with that guy?”

The way he stared at her only deepened the shade within her countenance. Love only came from those enviously blue irises that contradicted the espresso shade. Her lips parted instantly and didn’t withhold any of her thoughts, “It’s not, but if it were one, I would win.” She challenged, though if her instincts were right – and she knew they were – he would fight her on that. Until they were evenly matched. Her smile softened when he brushed his fingers past her cheek to put a strand into place. It didn’t last very long as a playful scoff left her lips. Her hand reached behind her and snatched a pillow and struck him with it, reclining her arm to try to keep it out of his reach. “I’m the award. Take it or leave it.” The sassy response spilled naturally from her mouth.
The words that came out of her lips only confirmed what he already thought she would say, but he enjoyed their banter. He let out a small chuckle as he shook his head. “I disagree, but of course, you can try.” The change in energy in the air was almost palpable the moment he noticed her reach for a pillow, and Pietro laughed as he quickly pulled back in reflex, though it was only enough to soften the impact made on his shoulder. He tried grabbing the pillow from her, though she seemed to predict that he would and kept it out of reach. “Okay, Callista,” he said, glancing from the pillow and back to her face. “First of all, you know that there is no universe in which I would not take it. Second, you forgot––” He reaches behind him, bringing up another pillow to even out their playful fight. “––there are two pillows on this couch!”

Technically he doesn’t need to patrol anymore. He’s above that in station, has come a long way since he was a rookie cop stuck with the worst shifts. But it’s habit. Even on his lunch break when he’s supposed to be taking the hour of his day he gets to himself, he can’t help but observe what is happening in the streets. It’s instinct now, he’s spent too many years double check locks and roaming his eyes around any setting before declaring it safe. It’s in his nature. And when his eyes settle on the Von Kleist son, he’s reminded why. Lukas tries not to feel suspicious when he sees him, but it is difficult after how long he and his unit tried to pin the man’s father for his crimes. With Victor now the CEO, he wants to give the man the benefit of the doubt, but he can not wholly convince himself that the man will not follow in the footsteps of his father. “Mr. Von Kleist.” He greets as he approaches, taking another bite of his lunch and finishing it of before speaking again. “I hope you’re well.”
He wore a small grin on his face as he walked down the street. The lunch meeting he had just come from seemed like one that would bear good results. Business ran smoothly for him the past few days, and Victor hoped to keep the streak running for as long as he could. He gave himself a mental rundown of tasks to get done for the afternoon when his thoughts were interrupted by someone calling his name. Turning towards the source, he sees a familiar face approaching, one he’s seen around when his father was still alive. He knows that the man and his sister are acquainted, though he cannot find it in himself to be completely free of the suspicion that he was not just walking over for a friendly greeting. Still, Victor greets the other with a polite nod. “It has been a good morning, and I hope the rest of the day continues the same way.” He took a moment to glance around. Surely they had other people to do patrols. “What brings you here? Not trouble, I hope.”

“I’m glad. For all the work you put in, it’d be a shame if you were getting just bad news.” She shook her head, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “Well, there’s a baby shower on Sunday, with a gender reveal. I have a corporate dinner that needs to be finalised by next Tuesday, and have had enquiries about a wedding anniversary. Fifty years together! Can you believe that? But nothing too out of the ordinary.”
“The only troublesome thing I’ve had to deal with this week is correspondence. Some of these professionals send rather unprofessional emails.” Victor nodded as she spoke about the events she was working on. At the mention of the wedding anniversary, he raised an eyebrow. “Fifty years is quite a special celebration, isn’t it?” He didn’t know many couples who have lasted that long. “What do you mean it’s nothing too out of the ordinary?”

“i have.” words left her lips so nonchalantly, as if it was no rarity at all. but she was so accustomed to frequenting the café, so used to sitting on the same place for hours. in between many drinks and biscuits, with books laying before her or just watching the people pass by. she found that, at times, it was intriguing to people watch –– see how angry some got for a phone call, how happy others seemed, the lonely hearts. it was an array of people and yet, she could not decipher many. “i like to have a few drinks, read and just soak it all in. it’s way better than being locked at home with no one to be with, here at least there are a few other strangers that i don’t know but in a way they are keeping me company, are they not?” she stared at her relativity book for a moment, before looking up at the guy again. “don’t worry, i’m only reading this book in advance so you’re not a bother or anything like that.”
As he heard her answer, the slight worry Pietro felt over the possibility that he might have intruded on anything, or was unwelcome in any way, started to subside. He nodded, an easy smile coming back to his face. Her words made sense to him. There were times when the company of strangers was nice, even when he was just doing his own thing. He figured that perhaps she thought similarly. “Coffee shops are certainly great when you want some alone time without being too alone.” He glanced at her book the moment she mentioned it. “In advance?” A grin. He had the habit of doing his readings in advance, but it wasn’t often that he found someone else who shared such a habit. “Is it for a physics class?”

years ago, this would’ve scared the hell out of her. a meeting with the ceo of a company in some massive high rise? she could’ve fainted back then, but years of work allowed her to be semi-comfortable with all things of this manner. no, she was still petrified of galas which required its attendees to dress up and socialize as if they were of equal importance, but meetings were fine. besides, victor seemed kind enough- nothing like the older men who would shove her around due to her age and gender. perhaps it was a generational thing, people closer to her own age were always far kinder. and her and victor were probably equally as surprised about each others’ ages.
her eyes glanced up at his as he studied the numbers, hoping to not see any sort of confusion from him as she spend days on end meticulously organizing the binder alone. céline leaned back slightly at his question with a nod. “yes, april worked well last year and we have everything set for april this year as well… but if you would prefer june though, it could be held back until then.” it would be difficult to break it to her associates that they’d have to wait until june, but he was the ceo so she really couldn’t argue with him on when the dates would be.
when he turned the page, céline followed along just to have a sense of where he was. “we’ve received an extensive break down of fire safety and emergency exits, so we’re set on the space. it’ll be in the pavilion, so there’s far more space available there without restricting walkways or exits.” did she sound too forceful? it was always a fine balance between force and gracefulness she found. most didn’t like to have meetings with women who acted as if they were trying to overthrow their position. her head tilted to the side faintly while pushing some blonde hair behind her ear. “they were planning on bringing a ring-tailed lemur,” she started, a small smile appearing just at the thought of it. “his name is zoboomafoo, he is very sweet, he actually hangs out in the offices with us a lot. and he’s great with everyone, so there’s no hazards with him. but it all depends on whether it would be okay with food code-” at his next question, she nodded quickly. “yes, this will be yours.”
Though he had always been expected to carry many responsibilities throughout his life, seeing others do the same still piqued his curiosity. Bright young minds were always fascinating, always people to keep an eye out for, for they always brought plenty to the table. Some people were all talk, but some had real potential. Victor was happy picking at the brain of the latter. While older, more experienced people were still necessary in many projects, Victor would not immediately count someone out just because they looked young. He himself was quite young for the position he held. He had no complaints about Céline thus far.
Hearing her answer to his question, he shook his head. “I only offered in case you needed the time to adjust to the scale of the event. I understand that this is quite different from the last. But if you are certain that you are prepared for April, then that is great news.” They didn’t have anything else booked for April, and he doubted that they’d find any as big as this on such short notice.
He nodded. “Excellent. As long as we’re clear on that. I believe the pavilion is indeed the ideal location for this kind of event.” At the mention of a lemur, Victor pursed his lips, giving it thought for a moment. From what he knew of them, he’d expect them to be quick, to move around a lot –– perhaps a potential hazard if left unsupervised. Hearing the name though, the corners of his lips curled upwards just the slightest. “It sounds like people would love him.” A pause. “There’s no issue with the food code if there is no risk of contamination for the food establishments in the centre, or any other food source. So if he is brought in, we’d need a guarantee that he would stay in one area. I assume he’ll be watched at all times during the event?”

Of all the coffee shops in London, of course she had to run into someone she knew. Violeta is hardly a social creatures. She has very few friends in her life, doesn’t tend to let people in easily and she often wonders how she managed to trust someone enough to marry them. But acquaintances – those she had many of. In a business like hers, appearances could at times be everything and she’d learnt how to use them well. She made sure to attend all of the right benefits, schmooze with all those that could benefit her business. That was how she’d met the Viscontis in the first place. Children of CEOs, all running in the same circles for years now, although she tended to avoid the Visconti family since her break up with Serafina several years ago. So it’s oh so typical to run into the youngest of the bunch here when she doesn’t even have a meeting to rush off to and use as a excuse. “Pietro.” She greets calmly, fingers gripped around her take away cup. “Long time.”
Pietro quite liked getting work done in coffee shops. He couldn’t exactly pinpoint what it was about their ambience that was conducive to productivity, but it was something between the smell of coffee that always made him more alert and the soft hum of chatter and music that never got loud enough to distract him, instead, keeping him in focus. He had a paper to work on for one of his classes, but his first order of business –– coffee. Hearing his name called out, he walked over to the pick-up counter, only to run into a familiar face. “Violeta.” His eyes widened in surprise, though a smile spread across his features. “It has been a long time! We always seem to run into each other when it’s least expected, huh?” Or at least that was how he thought of it, even back then. He was never actually clear on the exact reason why she and Sera broke up –– perhaps he should ask his sister again later –– but Pietro felt no need to be hostile to Violeta. In fact, he was more curious, and it was nice to see a familiar face he hadn’t seen in a while, nice enough to delay doing his paper. “I have a table,” he said, taking his cup of coffee. “Come sit with me. Catch up. How have you been?”

Agatha grinned, her dimples proudly showing. She always tried to be brighter around her brother, because she knew how stressed he was. She never wanted him to think she was suffering. “She asked her cousin to take me to dinner tonight.” she laughed, shrugging her shoulders. She hadn’t been on a date in some time. A lot of men thought she was too intense. Agatha rolled her eyes and leaned back in the chair. “Yeah, yeah.” She shook her head and held out her sandwich. “Take a bite. It’s good.” She sing-songed, batting her lashes.
If he had to be completely honest, Victor didn’t really mind the frequency of his sister’s visits to the office. It was instinct for him to worry for her. When they were children, the smallest of scrapes would have him asking her how she got it, asking whether there was somebody he had to deal with for her. Now, he still worried for her safety, especially with the line of work she has chosen. But he tried to be supportive of his sister’s choices. At least her frequent visits gave him some peace of mind. He raised an eyebrow at her words. “You’re going on a date?” He’d have to ask Ada all about her cousin later. “Make good decisions,” he teased, before taking the sandwich she held out and taking a bite out of it. “Oh. Not bad. Where’d you get this from?”

“oh.” the brightest of smiles spread through her lips as she caught sight of the guy. she had been stationary for far too long, minding her own mind to even realize the coffee shop boasted with people now. she had gone to the store for a cup of chocolate, a biscuit and the quiet. but without her headphones, it became clear the latter was not in effect anymore. “of course, i don’t mind. wow, i didn’t realize how packed this place had gotten in the last few hours.” last few hours, because she had been there for most of the day.
“Thank you –– absolutely appreciate it.” Pietro set his cup of coffee down on the table, pulled the chair opposite her, and sat down. “Business is doing pretty well, apparently. Hold on.” He paused, the latter half of her sentence only registering to him then. “Did I hear you say that you’ve been here for the last few hours?” He supposed it wasn’t so uncommon. Some people came to coffee shops alone and stayed a while for the ambience, some came for productivity. “If you’ve been working on something, I do hope I’m not keeping you from that––”

the caress of his hand caused her to tilt her head against his palm. A habit of hers, and her smile only grew. Windows opened in her mind, giving her a further glimpse of what it will be like without him there. But, she couldn’t let herself think like that. They were together now, and the present is what matters right now. She knows that once they get to that bridge, they will cross it together. And, Pietro planted seeds of faith in her heart – which is a completely new feeling.
her smile curved into an impish curve and she brought herself closer, giving him another kiss. “Nah, I think I love you more.” she challenged with a tone that matched her smile. A soft laugh left her lips at his last words, A sign of shyness that she often displayed, the things he said were always so genuine. Always catching her off guard. “Are you kidding me? You deserve an award for the craziness I put you through, you can’t deny that.”
He liked the way her cheek felt against his palm, but more than that, he liked the way she smiled. Even now, with its impish curve, there was something to appreciate. He always looked forward to seeing her smile –– no matter if it was sweet or mischievous, a wide-toothed grin or a softer, gentler sort. Each showed a different side to her, and he looked forward to getting to know them all, for he knew that he loved all of her.
“Since when did this become a competition?” He chuckled. If it was, then there would probably be no end to it, not unless they agreed that it would end in a draw. He tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear. “You keep my life exciting. I’m not just sticking with you for an award.” A pause. A more playful grin. “Do I get one though? That’d be nice, I won’t deny that either.”

the ceo was a big deal, anyone knew that. céline was a bit confused as to why she had to speak with him instead of the head of the appropriate department, but she supposed it was a good step to get him more involved which would lead to the rest of his shopping centers following suit. she shook his hand firmly with a hint of a smile before giving a nod and taking a seat across from him. this was odd, them being as young as they were. of course, she thought he was far more accomplished since he was the head of a multimillion dollar company- billions even. she tried not to get too intimidated though.
“it’s nice to meet you too, finally. i was pleased to hear that you wanted to review these plans in person, it is always good to know exactly what’s going.” céline glanced down at the binder and set it before herself on the desk, flipping to the first few pages of their growth along with the traffic it brings to his malls. “these were last year’s projections versus the actual outcome of the event which by far exceeded what we originally thought. we do tend to draw in crowds, but it also brings in more revenue for the individual stores in your malls. we believe that a bigger event could have an even larger outcome.” her pages were meticulously crafted and laminated- a habit of hers which took up far too much time.
céline turned to another page which outlined what exactly would take place that year. “last year we were more informative, and this time around we would like to merge with interaction which gets people more involved, so there might be a few small exhibits if that would be okay with you? the wwf wanted to see about bringing in one of their animals who they’re still assisting, but i wasn’t sure since i think it would have something to do with your food safety health code? but we thought that it would be beneficial to have sort of an opening day event and offer the photo tour packages people can go on as well as the adoption plushies which directly benefits whatever chosen species the consumer bought. i’ve written a lot, but flagged some more important pages for you-” céline spoke, sliding the binder around to victor.
She had a good handshake, and to Victor, that was usually a positive sign when it came to first impressions. A number of people come through his doors week after week –– some more memorable than others –– and so far, the young woman was off to a good start. As he looked down at the binder, he noted how organised she seemed to be with her materials, which came as somewhat of a relief as neat documents always made things easier to understand. Perhaps this will go by smoothly. Perhaps this was why the organisation trusted her with such a large event.
“These are good numbers,” he said with a nod. As with any other project, Victor always liked seeing results, especially ones that exceeded expectations. He’d seen the last event himself, having set aside some of his free time to pay it a quick visit, and he liked what he saw. People loved animals so they came and stayed a while, which translated to increased foot traffic for many of the stores, and as Céline had mentioned, more revenue. Everybody wins, and they help a good cause. “Are you still planning on having it in April like the last time?” A month was typically enough preparation time for an event, though he wasn’t sure if they wanted more time because they were scaling it up. “I have the space booked for May though, so if you need more time, hopefully June is alright.”
As she turned to another page, his eyes followed, looking over what they had planned for this year’s event. “The small exhibits are fine, as long as they fit within the space and they don’t block the walkways, entrances, or exits.” He raised an eyebrow at the mention of bringing in an animal. “What animal would this be?” It would certainly be interesting to bring one in, though he had to make sure that it wouldn’t risk food contamination in any way. He took the binder, flipping through some of the pages she had flagged. “Do I get a copy of this, Ms. Fauchelevent?”
