i completely get not liking or feeling triggered by taboo content (I am literally a CSA and SA survivor) but tryna run these people off the internet isn't going to do anything??? even on your quest for a pure internet, someone into stuff you dont like is still gonna have space on here, bc its the internet, you cannot control that. if someone is into stuff i dont like or that i find triggering, i just block them and move on with my day. the best way to protect yourself is to curate your own space.
I used to be completely mortified too, and tried to learn about why people are interested and turned on by these topics. I learned a little, but ultimately, my therapist and I decided it wasn't worth my time for me to try to wrap my brain around it. It was too harmful, and too triggering for me. Especially as an autistic person seeing my favorite characters portray acts that have happened to me.
So ultimately, I decided to move on. I can't control others, but I can control me. I just made it so I wouldn't interact with that content. I didn't have to read or see it. I didn't have to take up space in my mind.
My point is, if you're triggered by certain topics, I have sympathy bc I was like that too. Still am to a certain degree. But lashing out about it isn't going to make people's interest in that content disappear.
And furthermore, stigmatization of certain content (not saying I approve personally) makes it harder for victims of abuse to come out. Ex. A BDSM sub coming out about being abused by a shitty Dom, but bc of their interests, they aren't taken seriously and blamed for their abuse. That's a more IRL example, but the best one I could think of on a few hours of sleep.
Pretty much, if you're truly interested in protecting people from harm, you have to be open to the fact that some may partake in kinks/fetishes you dont like or are triggered by. But obviously, if your goal is to demonize, that doesnt matter. I'm just saying though, education and destigmatization might be the way to protect people from harm (if that is your goal).
TLDR: curate your own online experience and aggressive call-outs is not necessarily the way to protect people from harm unless actual abuse is happening.
