       Jon shook his head, a soft laugh falling from his lips at the mental image of Zatanna turning Irey into a life-sized pink bunny. “You aren’t a boring human. You’re a cool human.” He corrected her. There weren’t very many people that Jon found anything short of interesting, but this was especially the case with Irey. How did you find someone who could move faster than the speed of light boring? “It is.” He started to protest, not wanting her to think that he didn’t think she cared. If she didn’t, she wouldn’t have been there. Before he had a chance to get into it, she changed the subject. Now very aware of her on his lip. Jon cleared his throat, shifting under her. “Yeah, sure, sorry.”

          she chuckled “but i’d be an even cooler bunny! and don’t try and convince me otherwise, we both know it’d be fucking awesome!” irey grinned “i should talk to dami about getting a pet bunny... that’d be so dope.” hopefully she’d remember to see if ferrets and rabbits got along or not, but if not damien would let her know if it was a bad idea or not. “no, it’s not. i should let it go really... it’s been long enough and i keep bringing it up. i’m just being dumb, it’s fine.” she smiled, not as bright or broad as her normal smiles but she hoped it was enough. irey moved her hands from his shoulders to push herself up, but the way her leg had fallen asleep so as soon as she was halfway standing she fell right back into his lap. she scrambled, hands grabbing at his shoulders to stop her tumble, faces inches apart “i uh- my leg is asleep...”

            “if you say another bad pun while i can’t write it down, i’m leaving and i’m telling mom all your secrets.” irey pouted, hands full “these are gold and you’re torturing me! this is it huh? this is my villian origin story.”

A laugh escaped Linda’s lips as she looked at the carton of chocolate milk in front of them. “Yeah, it probably happened when I dropped it. I made the mistake of taking groceries with me during a job. The guards at the asylum got pretty mad, so I had to make a run for it. Couldn’t leave the choccy milk behind, though, even though I dropped it.” It was interesting that the stranger had used the word ‘our’. To Linda’s knowledge, they’d never met before. There was something strangely familiar about her, though. “I didn’t realise we were sharing my groceries. You should at least buy me coffee first,” she joked.

          irey knelt down, a sad look on her face “not the choccy milk, you deserved so much better.” oh shit! irey had gotten ahead of herself, yet again, and here she was talking to her mom, like she’s her mom, when she doesn’t even know she’s her mom... dad’s gonna be so mad irey frowned and stood up, smiling awkwardly “i uh...” be cool irey, you got this “himynameisireyandyou’remymombuti’mfromthefutureandiloveyou.” ... nice one irey

         Jai was relieved when Irey didn’t push the issue further, letting it go to disappear into the wind. “But what if they’re juicy?” He jokingly whined, pretending as if he needed all the details when in reality it was probably best that he didn’t have them. Even twins didn’t need to know everything about each other’s lives. “Another speedster?” Jai asked in a sing-song tone. He had yet to meet another speedster that the pair weren’t show related to yet. “Pietro isn’t a long lost cousin, is he? A tiny bar with the best food that you haven’t shown me yet?!” He gasped, placing a hand over his heart in mock hurt. “I don’t know.” Jai shrugged, ending his dramatic display. “Anything.”

          irey slumped down in her seat “well uh... i may or may not have nearly kissed jon, met mom, and got a fake date with jordan... just your average thursday.” she glanced over at jai for a moment before turning her focus back to the ferret “i don’t think we’re related, he’d never heard of the speed force before.” she shrugged “you know i gotta vet all these places before i bring you! they gotta meet the irey west standard.”

      “Then let’s say that instead of you’re smart. You’re quick on your feet.” Jon still thought she was smart, whether she wanted to admit it or not. No one on their team was stupid. Shaking his head, he let out a laugh. Unlike both of his parents he was not gifted with his words, finding it difficult to put things into words sometimes. “At least you’re not an actual human sized pink bunny.” He chuckled at the image that appeared in his head. He preferred Irey the way she was and he was sure that she did too. “Do?” Suddenly the air shifted around the pair. Something was wrong. “No,” his voice was soft, laced with regret. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you feel like that. I know you care about people. If you didn’t you wouldn’t be on the team.” Jon pulled away, reaching to hold her cheek in his palm with the hope that she would meet his eyes. “You’re a great person, Irey. I think you care about a lot of people. Even more people than know it.”

          she nodded, happy with being described that way. “aw, and here i was gonna see if zatanna could turn me into a bunny so i could complete the meme. fine, i’ll just stay a boring human.” irey huffed, a pout on her face. part of her knew that her friends loved her and that they didn’t mean to hurt her, but as much as she pretended that it hadn’t being left like that did hurt. she wasn’t mad that they wanted to come back to this time, she’d have personally brought them if they asked... but to just wake up to find her best friends gone like that... “never mind, it’s not important.” she flashed him a bright smile, head tilting to the side “i should probably get off your lap huh?” irey chuckled as she realised how close they were

Jordan grinned when she said he was the best out of all of them. “That’s really an honour, Irey. Thank you. I’ll cherish this.” He beamed. When she called him a sly dog, he laughed and shook his head quickly. “I’m not sly! I swear, I just like horror movies!” He said, “But hey. If you need to hold onto me, I’m right there for you. On standby to hold. I’ll protect you.” At the mention of her uncles he grimaced. “Please do. I’m not really in the mood today to pull an arrow out later.” He chuckled. “I love chili-cheese fries. I bet they’re a great colour on you. But seriously, you’ll look great in anything.”

            “don’t let it go to your head, i’d hate to be the one to turn you into an egomaniac or something.” not that she thought he’d have that in him, jordan always radiated positivity in her eyes. “oh, believe me, i’m gonna take full advantage of a date with the jordan kent.” as much as she was joking around about it, she probably would end up holding onto him. there’d probably be a few screams as well since irey didn’t do well with scary movies. “i’m sure it’ll be fine. and if it’s not then i can patch you up.” irey smiled and patted his hand “i might see if dory has something i can borrow.”

       “No bad vibes.” He held his hands up in defense, letting go of whatever irritation he had been holding onto. It wasn’t the time for it now anyway, he had come to have a good time with his sister. “So what’s new? Give me all the gory details.”

          she narrowed her eyes at him, not believing him in the slightest, but not pushing the issue any further. “oh, trust me shells, you don’t want the gory details.” irey winked as bloom curled around her neck “lets see... i met another speedster! his name’s pietro and he’s really nice. uhm... i’m eating my way through all of gotham! there’s this tiny bar that has the best food, just don’t let the staff scare you... i don’t know, what do you want to know?”

      Jon wasn’t delusional, he just thought highly of the people in his life, Irey included. “Quick on your feet then.” He proposed something different than smart for her to be although he still thought she was smart. Intelligence could be shown a lot of different ways. “You’ll figure it out.” He fully believed his own words, having complete faith in her. “I know what you mean.” Thinking was something Jon was always doing, taking everything into consideration. It could get exhausting to be so worried about things all the time but he didn’t have much of a choice. “Did I?” The question was a whisper. “Thanks. You aren’t either. I would say you’re a great person actually.”

            “now that is an accurate way to describe me.” she giggled. if she was one thing it was quick on her feet, in irey’s opinion her speed was one of her better qualities. “i like quick on my feet, i think it’s pretty good. not that i’m surprised that you’d figure it out, all those kent and lane genes must make you pretty good with words.” irey teased. “it’s why i’m always doing like three things at once, keeps me somewhat present even if i’m bouncing like the damn energizer bunny.” at his question, she opened her eyes and met his gaze “i uh- it just seemed like you didn’t expect me to care about you... do-” she paused, brow furrowing as she tried to find the right words for her emotions “do i seem like someone that doesn’t care about people?” her voice was quiet, a hint of fear in her voice maybe that’s why everyone left me behind...

       “Yes, you.” He nodded, wondering why she looked so shocked. “Irey, you’re really smart.” Jon could think of multiple times she had saved his skin with her quick thinking, something only a smart person could do. “Aren’t liquids wet though?” He questioned, stuck on the subject. “Thinking is good.” If Jon had it his way he would ask her what she thought about, wanting to know what was going on in her mind. He was always curious if speedsters thought as quickly as they moved. It was in that moment that he realized she wasn’t moving like she normally was. Making note of it, he would make sure to ask about it later. “Why would I want that?” He moved leaning his forward against hers. “We’re friends, aren’t we?” Jon asked, his voice just above a whisper.

          she just barely held back a snort “not sick, just delusional. great.” a small frown formed on her face “i guess i have my moments but i don’t think smart is the right way to describe me... and don’t ask what the right way would be because i don’t know.” irey wasn’t putting herself down, she just didn’t think smart was an accurate description for her. “sometimes i don’t want to think so much, its exhausting.” she sighed, sometimes her brain moved faster than she did and it was hard to keep up. “i don’t know, you said it like i shouldn’t or that it’s surprising...” her eyes closed as his forehead met hers “of course. you aren’t a terrible person or anything.”

        “You’re right here. Unless you’re a hologram.” He chuckled as she leaned over, having moved onto his thighs. Jon readjusted so that she would be more comfortable, securing her with a loose arm to keep her from falling onto the couch or the floor. “What is water by itself then?” He asked, eyes moving to hers as she checked his cheeks. “I made a sandwich for lunch.” He confirmed. “I just think you’re thinking about it a lot.” Jon tried to defend, their eyes met and he reached his free hand up to move of a piece of hair that had come unsettled from her moving around, pushing it behind her ear he smiled. “Why do you care so much?”

          it took her a second but she finally put it together “me?!” her eyes widened and there was shock all over her face “i’m not smart you dork.” she scoffed, nose scrunching up slightly. as she pondered his question, irey’s brain caught up to what her body had done and that she was currently in jon’s lap “i uh... i don’t know. just liquid?” she muttered, nodding slightly. she probably could have called him delusional or crazy but for some reason irey couldn’t get them out. “i think about a lot of things, something wrong with that?” she shrugged slightly before moving her arms to rest on his shoulder for balance. “well i- do you want me to not care about you?”

        “Right there.” He gestured again as she looked around. Leaning up, he reached for her hand, trying to get her to point at herself so she couldn’t mistake who he was talking about. “Is it dry on it’s own?” Jon looked at her with clear confusion. Water was wet, not dry. Moving back against the soft fabric of the couch, he listened to her talk about her relationships. “If you’re not hurting anyone then why is it a problem?” That made no sense. “You can be used as a plural. You guys. You all. You. I’m worried about you and everyone else. We’re a team.” Jon struggled to cover up his wording, hoping she would go with it but knowing that it was a long shot. She was right. They could all protect themselves but sometimes he still felt protective over everyone.

          she huffed in frustration “there’s no one else here jon... you feeling okay?” irey sat up and leaned over, placing a hand on his forehead to check for a fever, not even realising that she was now practically in his lap “water isn’t wet by itself, but it makes other stuff wet when they come in contact.” she moved her hand down to check if his cheeks were hot or not “you don’t feel like you have a fever... did you eat today?” concern edging into her voice “you seem to really be fighting me on this...” she narrowed her eyes slightly, inching her face closer as if she could see if he was sick or not in his eyes

“Really? Your favourite one? I mean there’s so many Jordans in the world. Surely there’s one you’d like better.” He let out a chuckle, “There’s lots to look forward to. I may not try and make a move but I’ll leave my hand there for you to take just in case you get scared or just wanna hold it. You know?” He half-joked, she could hold his hand anytime. He really didn’t mind that. “I’ll walk you to the door, but if your dad’s too threatening I might just hide behind you. Are you going to dress up for our first date? I’m just wondering if I have to break out my dress shoes.”

          she shook her head “nope. you’re clearly the the best out of all of them and i’ll fight anyone that says otherwise.” irey had missed this, since everyone had come to this time without her she’d felt a little like her friends didn’t care as much for her as she did them, but this felt like old times and irey was happier than she’d been in a while. “you sly dog! taking me to a scary movie. you just want me all scared and holding onto you, i see how it is.” she giggled and looked up at him “i’ll make sure that he doesn’t get uncle roy or uncle jason to give him weapons. do you want me to dress up? i have like one dress and it might have a stain from a mishap with some chili-cheese fries...”

       “Nah, it’s whatever.” He shook his head. Jai had yet to tell Irey about what happened with Yara and he didn’t plan on it anytime soon. He knew that his twin was better off not knowing. “Anyway, where are you taking my my nieces? I just got here.”

            “if you say so.” she made her way over to where jai was sitting, setting stella down before pulling bloom off her sweater and settling into her chair. “my girls don’t like bad vibes so leave those at the door before picking up a chaos noodle.”
