—— ☾ Circe furrowed her eyebrows. By Zeus, these Gods were all so dramatic. Even if her joy wasn’t for the right reason, she very much doubted that the Goddess would be able to tell and besides, she had been agreeing with her.
“I’m afraid I’m not sure what you mean,” She said remorsefully. “I was merely concurring with your previous statement but if I have offended you, please accept my apologies. I can be so foolish sometimes. My mind looses track of modern etiquette versus the old.”
As she grovelled underneath the enraged woman, her hatred for the old Gods grew. She wasn’t a Goddess? She was just as much a Goddess as any of the peacocks parading around Olympus. Hades was her fucking second cousin for Zeus’ sake. Her adrenaline spiked as her mind rolled but she kept her mouth shut. If Inanna didn’t know who she was by now, it wouldn’t do to bring attention to herself. Let all eyes be on her when she reclaimed her title not while she was still thought of as an enchantress.
“I didn’t ask for false placations, I asked for honesty. Why is it you dislike me?” Inanna said, annoyed that she had to ask a second time. What was it the Christian god had said? The truth will set you free. Well, it could do just the opposite, but when a goddess like Inanna asked you to tell the truth, you’d better do it. “What is your name? Your true name?”
Perhaps the enchantress didn’t know it, but her anger was almost palpable to Inanna herself. She flipped a black curl behind her face almost to show how little she cared for the conversation. Whoever this woman was, she was not divine. Perhaps it was her haughtiness, perhaps it was merely her look but Inanna would place her with the Egyptians or the Greeks.
“It is a bad idea to pick a fight with god,” She said, as though she meant she herself was the sole god. “It’s like the song, ‘I fight authority and authority always wins,’“ She laughed, “I always get a kick out of that one.”
