backstory !
valentina black was born into a world of magic & empowerment , and told from a young age that one day she would become a force to be reckoned with . she never doubted this for a second — after all , elvira black , her mother , was deemed one of the most memorable witches in vernon . they lived with val’s grandmother , octavia , in a comfortable victorian house that stood at the edge of town , away from civilization and the chaos .
the blacks were often quite the target of callous rumors regarding the mysterious deaths and disappearances that occurred in vernon . name calling , stupid pranks ... val was too young at the time to understand the prejudice her family had to endure just because they were ‘ different ’ .
little by little , elvira began to crack . benevolence that once filled her eyes were no more , fading into an ugly shade of grey , and her melodic voice that used to echo within the walls of their home became coarse and rough .
however , when octavia found out that elvira had been dabbling in dark magic around val , she knew it was the last straw . she needed to protect her granddaughter and came to the conclusion to ban elvira from ever stepping foot in vernon again .
present day !
without her mother around , val solely depends on her grandmother for guidance . she’s content with her freedom , not having to abide by dumb little rules and doing whatever she wants . her holier - than - thou attitude tend to create enemies more than anything , but deep down inside , she just wants some fuckin’ friends . as capable a witch as she is , val's powers oftentimes gravitate towards reckless behavior , triggering her interest in becoming something more ... something stronger . thus marking her first steps into the world of dark magic , all behind her grandmother’s back of course .
