"O-Oh, well, that’s new.” Jarrod counted himself fortunate to have not encountered any of those beings yet. Perhaps that was why he never noticed anything different. “You called them men. You mean to say they are human, or once were?”  Jarrod tried piecing things together himself. If they were once human, does this mean they are also cursed? That would be bad. Normal wolves were bad on their own. Or is this a new form of hollowing?

     "It matters not," Lucatiel replies, folding her arms, "They are monsters with no place on this earth."

[burntivoryking]

“One might say ‘tis the nature of the beast.”

Weiss pantomimes a rimshot.

[ofmirrah]

     All he receives is a blank, confused stare in return.

And with that, one of these said beasts snatches her hat right off of her head— mistaking it for a dead carcass— and bounds off. 

[ofmirrah]

     Lucatiel can't help the short scream that escapes her. A huge paw armed with razor sharp talons swiping toward her face, eager to rend more skin dead and rotten--

     --and it takes her hat?

     Seriously?

     To hell with it. If Kremmel's come up with new ways to toy with her, she will rise to the occasion like the sun. Drawing her blade, Lucatiel rushes after the wolf. "Drop it, bloodborne beast!"

They hope she’s not talking about them…

     "No, Sir Bee, I do not refer to you."

"You mean it’s not always like this?" Jarrod asked, holding back a cough. He desperately hoped that he would get better. That cough was a severe weakness and it was what kept him from traveling too far. "Surviving is surviving, I guess." 

[ofmirrah]

     Lucatiel gives him an analytical stare. Not always like this? Has he been living under a rock for...however long it has been since the world went insane? Nevertheless, if he's managed to hang on this far, good on him.

     "Wolf-men," the dame knight says, "A new development. Perhaps there is something in the blood..."

[ofmirrah]

     "I return from frozen lands to find this one overrun by beasts."

     A beat.

     "Well, more so than usual..."

I feel like every time I log on I just get up to Lautratiel shenanigans, which are nice in moderation, but I always want to have more serious things going on when I have serious muses and, well

Yeah.

I'm sure I'll get back into the swing of things when my computer will let me beat the Ivory King without going FUBAR. Until then you're more likely to catch me on my Old Dragonslayer or my brand new Four Knights blog.

He brought his lips to a thin line.

Dame. Of course. No adventurer would have such steel and cosmetics upon themselves.

"Forgive me, Dame. I am merely a wanderer of these lands. I am unfamiliar of any specific land outside of or within Drangleic. Becoming acquainted with the lay of the world is difficult when almost all encounters with other’s result in violence."

"I suppose that is no excuse though. Armor of any kind of order should bear some recognition. Dame of Mirrah, might you impart your name to mineself? It brings a small comfort to know there are other’s who strive in these lands."

"Why should I?" Lucatiel's eyes narrow behind her mask. This wanderer's words may be pretty, but so were those of the cleric above. "I don't know you, and you don't know me. Things are better that way."

Publicity Stunt

"Absolve me of my sins?"  the words sound so unbearably hollow against the roar of the crowd. The pardoner’s voice held a calm confidence despite the absurdity of their words. This was the way things were done this what the god’s required. A short prayer and all would be forgiven, it was that simple.He would be able to leave this life with a clean slate. 

The murderer’s shackled hands were coated in blood, drenched with it. How could they ever be clean? The faces of his victims flashed across his mind the recent ones, the ones of Mirrah, the ones that Pate would make him pay for. 

His chest tightened as memories of his first murder bubbled to the surface. An old memory, he hadn’t thought about that first one in a long time. Creighton couldn’t picture their face anymore or hear their screams but he could remember what if felt like, he had been so hungry and so scared. A strained grin stretched across his filthy face. That first one had been luck, pure and simple. His weapon had been dull and his skill was laughable but he had managed just the same.

He shook his head letting matted blond locks fall in his face. “The blood stays where it is, pardoner.”  He looks back at the woman wearing Kremmel’s face. He’s not going to make this easy.

The pardoner's smile is unchanged. "So be it. Thine fate is within thine own hands."

She nods to the executioner. His heavy hand clasps Creighton's shoulder and shoves him to the chopping block. A basket waits to catch his head.

"Ladies and gentlemen," the pardoner calls to the crowd, "We gather here today to bear witness to the execution of Creighton of Mirrah, for multiple counts of vandalism, thievery, and homicide. The Lords of Mirrah have decreed that for his crimes, he must be put to death."

The masses scream for blood, arms raised in agreement. "The axe is too kind!" someone cries, "Let him burn! Let him burn!"

The pardoner ignores the shouting voices. She turns to the executioner, touches his arm softly. "Let thy blade swing true."

As he takes up position, hefting his axe, Aslatiel looks to a corner of the village square. A very different kind of shrieking erupts from the midst of a group of Mirran soldiers. Their clothes are drenched with blood, and their footsteps are slow and shambling. The knight grasps the hilt of his sword. "By the gods," he mutters, "What is that?"

Naturally, the knight only continues with his relentless jabbing and prodding as he cackles to himself. 

"Is this how the great knight of Carim defeats the famed dame of Mirrah? Oh, how absolutely vicious.”

[ofmirrah]

Vicious? She can do vicious.

Jittery fingers reaching into her pack and sinking into the caestus, she swings her fist toward Lautrec's face.

…I have seen many warriors garbed in red pass by, both in flesh and as phantoms. Their fates are unknown to me, nor do I care about them.
