feelings on paper
you’re going to love again, find a job again, create art again, do what you love again, feel powerful again. you’re going to be back on track. i don’t know when, but you are going to feel like yourself again, eventually. this isn’t the end. hang in there.

Anyway, isn’t it weird how you can love a voice
for a recent assignment i made a collection of woven samples woven on 4 harness looms exploring methods of translating indian folk textile motifs and repurposing waste materials from the sari silk industry into new contexts and material expressions ☀️🧺🐑 i based my colour palette around the theme of harvest season in punjab and experimented with ways of turning designs traditionally realized through embroidery and/or printing into woven fabric created within the context of biracial identity and the north indian diaspora.
i think i'm going to call the collection ਕਮਲ / kamala ("lotus") referencing the ubiquity of the lotus motif across south asian design and its associations with renewal and vitality 🏵️ i'll post more photos of the individual pieces soon
