BUTTERFLY / Behind the Scenes
jia !
jia nodded in agreement. “good. as it should be.” at naeun’s next words she shrugs, tossing her dark her over her shoulder. “totally get that. i haven’t had a hotdog in five years and just thinking about it makes me a bit sick.” she cringed at the thought, shaking her head. “pickle relish, too, just — ugh. no. not my thing at all.” changing the subject, she waved it off playfully. “of course! i can’t have my dearest friend absent at my party, who am i going to talk to? besides, anyone that knows of me is terrified of me. i could look their way and they’d cower in fear. as they should.” she smirked, winking at naeun. “but hm. i don’t want to impose too much on people, but i also don’t want them coming in casual wear and calling it a day. laziness is not — and will not — be a thing at any of my parties, thank you very much!”
just at the word ‘hotdog’ naeun’s entire face scrunched up in disgust. "i really can’t believe, one that hot dogs are still sold and two that somebody ever thought to make them,” she gave a short amused laugh following her words. “now, pickle relish? not as bad, it’s actually a good addition to a veggie burger,” she gave the other a nod. her smile only grew wider and wider at jia’s words, “closest friend? oof, you spoil me with words jia,” she mused, “i wouldn’t say they’re terrified of you,” nae started her lips pursing as thought about her next choice of words, “i’d say intimidating, and that’s because they don’t know you like i know you,” she knocked her friend softly in the side. “no laziness, noted,” she nodded, she already knew how seriously jia took her parties and that’s why they were some of the best at the school, “i say impose as much as you want, there hasn’t been a good theme party in a while,” she begun rambling on her ideas for themes already popping into her head, “but, we can’t do anything too overdone, you want to be original.”
minki !
“that would be offensive if i didn’t know how much you enjoyed it,” he said with a roll of his eyes, slinking down into his seat. “not that i’d like you, anyway. i’m a new man, you know. with standards now and everything. sad for you, very exciting for me.” he was being cruel, but he couldn’t help himself sometimes. there was a desperate need to push away anything he felt could hurt him, and naeun happened to be one of the people he was scared of. he refused to admit it, however. “ah, no. not like i’d be better off anywhere else. besides, how boring would your lunch be if all you had was your lame chicken nuggets to keep you entertained? what a snore. i’m doing you a favor by sitting here with you! you’re welcome. you don’t have to thank me.” nose scrunched, he leaned forward, letting out a breath. “i wouldn’t understand? i doubt it’s that complicated. or maybe it just seems really complicated to you, but if you give me a basic run down i’m sure i could help you understand it a little more.”
naeun’s fist clenched as she fought back the urge to reach across and deck minki right in the face. the annoyance with him overshadowing the hurt that she felt at his words. his words hurt more then she’d ever admit to him. minki had meant so much to her at one point in her life, it was because of that he knew just how to hurt her. instead of making a move, she let out a frustrated deep breath trying to keep her temper in control. “whatever the fuck you say minki, i’m glad you found yourself and whatever, i hope you have fun with whoever you decide to string along next” her eyes rolled back in her head. she pushed her plate forward her appetite suddenly gone. “i’m perfectly happy with my vegan nuggets, but you just being here is ruining my appetite. so if you wanted to move on with your sad life that’d would be more then okay with me too,” her eyes narrowed at him, “hm, instead of trying to learn my shit, maybe you should just focus more on your elementary education classes. are you even passing those?” her eyebrows raising.
jinhun !
there’s a small thread of guilt wrapping around him as he watches her treat him so delicately. of all people who deserved to be held tenderly and treated softly, he was not one of them. he never will be. and the simple fact that he was indulging in being coddled was already bad enough. it was only a matter of time before it caught up with him and he dragged naeun into this mess of his. “i know,” he answers, because, he does. he knows all to well that her door is always open to him.that if he came begging when she was about to leave she would drop everything for him. and that’s. it fucks with him in a way he’s not too sure is good or bad. “you shouldn’t be awake this late, though,” is all he settles on. avoids the subject like he always does because then that makes it real. makes whatever fragile thing they have start to teeter and jihun is so fucking selfish. he doesn’t want to let this or naeun go just yet. “if i came to your dorm during the day you’d scold me for skipping classes next. i’d rather just get one kind of scolding from you.” it’s meant to sound serious, but it comes out more playful than he intended and that is. fine. okay. he can only hope she takes it the same way too. “thank you,” he mumbles softly, eyes flickering to the ice pack resting over his knuckles and the sting is starting to become noticeable, but he pushes down the wince. the worst is over. “i know that this is getting old and you hate it,” he’s heard her tell him one too many times already, “but i keep coming back anyways. i’m sorry, naeun.”
at his soft warning she can only give him a soft knowing look, the side of her lips curling up into a shy smile. “probably not, but i am awake so you’ll have to deal with it,” she mused softly as she continues to assess his wounds, her eyes scanning across his face. she can only hope that he doesn’t push the subject any further. whatever this was between them was always teetering on the edge. she felt in a seconds notice if she got too close or moved too fast with him, he’d hide himself away from her. to be honest she wasn’t sure what she would do if jinhun cut her off completely, he already meant too much to her. a small soft laugh fell from her lips at his comment, the playfulness sneaking past his serious tone. “you’re not wrong there, class is important after all” she paused for a moment, her hands and eyes falling from his face “but at least then i wouldn’t be cleaning you up then,” the rest of the sentence came out softer.
her eye suddenly flashback up at his apology. she lets out a short almost frustrated huff as she steps away from him and moves quickly across her room. “i just hate seeing you do this to yourself,” she spoke to him across the room as she grabbed a spare water bottle and washcloth from off her desk. she holds off telling him that the thought of him hurting like that hurt her, but she knew better then to share that much. she quickly came back in front of him on the bed. “i’d rather you come to me then anyone else,” she added her voice still soft. she stepped close enough to him, so she stood between his legs. she made herself focus on the task at hand rather then their close proximity, “why do you keep doing this?” she asked as she wet the rag and brought it to his face softly. she was sure she had asked him the question a million times, but she still didn’t understand why he kept putting himself in harms way again again and again.
nami !
“yeah… i mean, pretty good. still not as good as real chicken nuggets,” he said with a small frown. if they were as good, maybe better… he didn’t think he’d go vegan, anyway, but he felt bad about it. he just couldn’t live a life where he couldn’t eat burgers, or better yet, cheese burgers. “well, that’d dumb. how many meals does it take until you can be a certified badge? are there rewards, trophies, that kinda thing? i’d definitely consider it more if i got presents. i have to have something to replace the hole left behind when i have to actually think about what i’m putting in my body.” with a crinkled nose, he scoffed in offense as she talked down about his favorite kid’s game. “it’s fine. i have a tutor, i’ll listen then,” he assured with a nod. “we should do something fun, though… and i guess video games are out of the question. wanna go see a movie?”
she gave hime a short shrug of her shoulders, “to each their own, i guess i can’t really say because i haven’t had a real chicken nugget since i was like eight,” she said simply, she had been vegetarian since a young age when she stumbled upon a documentary about how animals were treat and not long after did she go completely vegan. a short laugh came from nae’s chest at his questions, “it’s more of when you decide you want to make the change, not after a certain number of meals,” she explained her head nodding softly with each word, “but, i could make some trophies just for you if that would convince you to go vegan, or at least vegetarian,” a goofy smile curling on the corner of her lips, “you wouldn’t need to spend time with a tutor if you paid attention in class, nami, but do what you want” she tried not to sound patronizing, she knew not everybody was not the same way about their studies as her. “i didn’t say video games are out of the question, i’m just not a big toontown person,” she teased with a raise of her eyebrows at him, “but, i could go for a movie too,”
nami !
on nami’s list of embarrassing things he’d been through, this was surprisingly low on the list. probably even lower than when he had to dress up as a clown for his cousin’s birthday party, and was promptly forced to be the one to go out and get her birthday cake in the full get up, running into a group of people from his high school along the way. it didn’t make this moment any less humiliating, however. “no, wait, don’t leave,” he rushed out, “it’ll be… weirder if you just leave. just - turn around for a second,” nami ordered, making a vague gesture with his hand and waiting for her to do so before taking a few seconds to make himself presentable again. “okay,” he said after a moment, letting out a breath. his face was still flushed, but being more put together did make him feel… slightly better. “did you.. need something? you don’t- i don’t get visitors a lot,” he pointed out, finding himself trying to excuse why he’d been reckless enough to leave the door unlocked.
naeun stood at facing the door behind her, her hands on either side of her face. she stopped mid reaching for the door knob he spoke quickly telling her to stay. for a moment she hesitated her hand hovering of the knob, if she left now maybe both of them could forget this whole thing ever happened. but, instead she stayed, nami was her friend and it was better to talk through the awkward. at his permission she turned on her toes, letting out a short puff once she saw nami fully decent this time. there was an awkward air between the two as she took a slow step towards him. “i texted you,” she said simply, “i wanted to hang out, so i thought i’d come back,” she continued with an awkward shrug of her shoulders, “i should have knocked... i’m sorry.”
vince !
the corners of vince’s mouth tugged downward in an obvious pout. he didn’t get his feelings hurt often, but he’d be lying it would, unfortunately, take more than that to pierce his ego, though. “no idea what you’re talking about..i had something in my eye.” he feigned innocence behind a tight-lipped smile. he shrugged his shoulders. “want me to go with you? be your…moral support?” he suggested, “er, yeah. very wrong.” truthfully, he didn’t understand what the big deal was, but he wouldn’t say that out loud. “…so can you not eat chicken if you’re vegetarian?”
naeun rose her eyebrows a slightly amused expression settling on her features. she’d be lying if she didn’t feel a little endeared by the boy’s effort, maybe it was the little exaggerated pout he was giving getting to her. “sure ya did,” she mused softly pushing back a side of her hair. she was quick to wave him off, “nah, administration knows me well enough by now, it’s like talking to a friend,” she shrugged once, she was pretty sure she was more of annoyance in their side but, whatever. at his question she blinked a few times, she was trying to determine if he was actually being serious, “are you joking?” she finally asked her head cocking to the side.
minki !
it was supposedly a theme for minki to bicker intensely with all of his exes. though those people certainly had to be some of the most important in his life, considering he’d wanted to be with them to begin with. he protected himself and his heart first and foremost, and the fact that he agreed to stay committed to a single person at any point? for him, it seemed all too unrealistic, but it happened, and naeun happened to be one of the people he gave more of himself to. he refused to acknowledge that level of vulnerability, and thus he simply intensified his bickering with her instead. the two argued a lot to begin with, but minki had always done it because he liked seeing her frustrated. he was strangely endeared by it. “my panties are very much fine, and very cute. wanna see?” he raised a brow, as if he were actually about to stand up and show her. “life’s always got me down, nae, don’t look so smug. not to say that this conversation with you didn’t lower the bar even more. surprising that you’re capable of doing that, though. kinda impressive.” he squinted a bit before taking an overly dramatic bite out of his carrot. “the chicken still died, you just aren’t the one eating it.” his tone was deadpanned, before humming softly. “oh, yeah? what was it about, then?”
part of her knew that this minki’s defense mechanism, to push at her buttons like this. she had gotten too close and this was his way of coping with that. but, she was naeun and it was almost certain she was going to bite back. her eyes rolled back at his words as she scoffed lightly at him, “i’ve already seen enough of you, please keep your panties to yourself, thanks,” she gave him a fake smile as she held another nugget up taking a bite. she fought back the urge to throw the rest of the nugget at his face at his next words but, instead just dropped it on the plate in front of her. “nobody is keeping you in this conversation minki, you’re more then welcome to go on with your sad little life,” she accented her words with a flip of her dark hair. she wouldn’t admit that his words hurt her a little more then she had expected, she was probably just being too sensitive. “true but change starts with one person, one step in the right direction,” she pointed at him with a raise of her eyebrows, “i’m not going to explain it to you, one because i know you’re just humoring and two you wouldn’t understand it anyways,” her shoulders shrugged.
jia !
jia nodded, swirling her fork in her noodles again. “right. what dipping sauce do you have with it?” she asked, peering over. “i hear tvp’s got the texture of ground beef.” she grinned as she tossed her hair over her shoulder, shrugging. “well, you know me. i’m a firm believer in enjoying what i do — could you imagine if you got roped into doing course you absolutely hated? how sad. my dad almost crucified me for doing classics until i told him it was for pre-law reasons.” she let out a chuckle, nodding. “of course you are! it’d be a travesty to not invite people i actually like. even worse if it’s all people you don’t know.” she leaned forward, eyes sparkling with mischief. “i’ll need your help figuring out the theme. and snacks.”
nae held up a packet of barbecue sauce and ketchup to the other with a short raise of her eyebrows, “the nugget usuals,” she said opening one back and squeezing it on to the plate in front of her. “it really taste normal to me, but i’ve been vegan since like freshman year of high school so, i have kinda of forgotten what ground beef tastes like,” she shrugged her shoulders taking another bite. “good, i would have been offended if i wasn’t,” she mused to her friend giving her a goofy friend, “could you imagine how terrible a party with all people you don’t know would be?” she shook her head with a short laugh, “oooh, you came to the right person then, what were you thinking? like full costume thing or something more chill?”
lcvelyhearts·:
there’s a certain sense of disappointment settling in his gut with her words. then again, there’s always something negative weighing down on him every time he finds himself settled on naeun’s bed, body bloodied and battered. sometimes, he wonders why he even puts her through this. if there was one person who didn’t deserve to be dragged into this hole that was him, it would be her. but here he was, eyes watching the girl fret over him and treating him like he was glass. as if he hadn’t just come back from a night of fighting. sometimes, he really did think he was too selfish. “honestly,” he starts, voice low and tone relaxed. “the adrenaline is still pumping, so things are still a bit..,” he trailed off, trying to find the right word. he could lie and tell her that it was nothing. this was nothing, but. he didn’t want to. not with naeun. “numb. they’re a bit numb.” he would definitely feel it all tomorrow, he always did, but for now he was glad that he was given small mercies. “sorry. for showing up so late, i just-” he stopped, not sure where he was going with his words. “i just didn’t want to show up at home all disgusting. minhee would probably wake up and i don’t want her to see me like this.” ‘i don’t want you to see me like this either’ titters on his tongue, but he keeps his lips pressed shut. one night. for one night, he’ll be selfish.
she knew that he would initially try to brush off his pain, it was what he did to shield himself from the world. but, the pair had been in this situation many times he knew she wouldn’t let him to that to her, keep her out. she had already fought through so many of his walls, she wasn’t going to let them go right back up. she simply tsked her lips at him as she moved away toward’s her dorm’s mini fridge. “they may be numb now, but if you want to dull the pain for tomorrow you need to ice it right now,” she was quick to pull out the ice pack she kept in the freezer, the one she totally didn’t buy just for jihun, and pacing it softly to his bruised knuckles. “it’s fine, really, i was awake anyways,” she answered softly her fingers brushing softly against his wrist as she held the pack to him. as much as it made her sick to see him like this, she couldn’t lie to herself and say she didn’t somewhat relish in the closeness that he allowed her in times like this. “you know you can always come to me,” her voice was still soft as she brought one hand up to push back his hair from his forehead, her fingers carding through the strands of his hair. “i mean, i wish it wasn’t under circumstances like this,” it was a short huff, he knew how she felt about his fighting. she tried to understand it but, it was hard for her. “but, still i’m here when you need me.”
≡ tae & nae
≡ = offering a place to stay overnight !
naeun was busy adjusting her shirt as she heard the question come from tae. she whipped her head towards him, her eyebrows scrunching together as she tried to process the offer. staying over normally wasn’t a part of their deal, whatever it was their deal was anyways. all she knew was that most nights they spent together like this, nae was quick to dress herself and scurry back to her dorm. the offer of staying the night felt too intimate for them. but, she could feel the lateness of the night effecting her. she had spent most of the night before studying for an exam and she could feel the lack of sleep catching up with her. the thought of having to trek across campus and back to her dorm, “uh, yeah, if that’s cool with you,” she tried to answer smoothly giving him a small smile before falling back onto the bed beside him.
✘ nami forreal
✘ = hugging them !
instinctively nae responded to the other’s hug, her arms moving to wrap around his waist and her head tucking into his neck. it was rare that nami w as this soft with her and she knew that could either mean something really bad or really good. so, she just held him for a moment keeping her arms tight around him letting silence fall around them. after a few moment she pulled away, her hands remaining on his shoulders, “you good?” she asked softly her eyes searching his face.
❤ minki
❤ = kissing them !
nae took a stumbled step back, both hands moving forward to push the boy away. “what the—” the words sputtered out of her as her mind spun. “are you drunk? what the hell minki?” the words came out harsh as she blinked at him. he couldn’t do this to her, they weren’t together anymore he couldn’t push and pull her like this, it wasn't fair to her. it was all too confusing and too much for her, her feelings for him getting all mixed around. they had just begun to get closer to being normal again, and then he goes and does this. “i can’t be around you right now,” she took a few steps away from him her voice soft as she turned away from him running away from him and the situation. if she kept running she wouldn’t have to face the situation, right?
Heejin x Snack World Versus [CF Making]
✏ + for jia + naeun!
✏ = teaching them a different language + the roles to be reversed !
“so, it’s posso avere dell'acqua” naeun leaned forward onto her elbows closer to jia. in front of them sprawled various papers and italian textbooks. they hadn’t been in the library for too long studying but, they had gotten quite a bit of work done. she was sure her constant repeating of the italian words was beginning to annoy those around them, but she was just happy she could be of some help to the other girl, “bellissimo!”
⇕ ( jihun // love me )
⇕ = holding their hand !
the pair walk in tandem down the street barely an inch of space between the pair. that small fraction of space between them seemed to be the only that naeun could focus on. she knew how jihun was when it came to his space, so that fact that he was allowing her to be this close to him was something she was going to relish in. she almost always waited for him to make the first move when it came to their interactions, unless it was when she was patching him up. she had to hold back a short gasp when she felt his hands intertwine with hers. she couldn’t help the small smile curl on the corner of her lips at the gesture, she could only hope he didn’t feel the way her heart had sped up with the simple action.
maggie & naeun ✎
✎ = speaking in a different language !
naeun laid sprawled out on the ground of maggie’s room. her feet kicked up behind her as she scribbled the crayon in her hand on the paper in front of her. luna sat a few coloring on her own piece, the little girl totally entranced in her work. maggie had walked out of the room a few minutes ago leaving the two to their coloring. it was mid color when naeun first heard the words out of maggie’s mouth. it caused her to drop her crayon looking straight at the other, “what was that?” her eyebrows knitted together, “you never let me know you could speak another language?” her eyes widened curiosity filling them, “speak more!”
