ASK MY MUSE A QUESTION AND I CAN ONLY RESPOND WITH A GIF OF THEM
âGreenland, I see. And, what brings you here?â Bruce asked curiously. He couldnât quite remember the last time heâd gotten to sit down and have a conversation. It was⊠nice. He sat back in his chair and managed a small smile. âItâs a coursebook for the community college nearby, I was thinking about helping out with a few summer classes there.â
â... Curiosity, more than anything, I think. And I was in need of a break; Iâve heard a variety of different opinions on this country -- this city especially, but figured Iâd be better off seeing for myself... So to speak.â Reader smiled wryly, fingers drumming lightly upon the surface between them. âWhat subject do you teach -- or would you teach, I suppose??â
âAnd every breath you draw in my presence annoys me yet here we are, you still breathing and me still having been bumped by, I am presuming, a blind mortal.â
âWell, Iâm sorry but Iâm not about to start holding my breath for you. Mmhm, I do hope by using that tone you donât mean those words as insults; theyâre just adjectives.â
âForey? Thatâs an interesting name. Are you of French descent?â Bruce asked curiously. His thumb pressed the corner of his page down so he could close his book and he found himself adjusting his glasses. âNo, I have time to read it.â
âNot that Iâm aware of?? Iâm actually from Greenland, and I donât really know where I got the name Forey from -- most likely a book.â He chuckled, lifting both shoulders in an idle shrug. âAh, good. What are you reading??â
â alright, then weâre both in agreement. my place it is â i suggested it, reader. itâs fine, donât dwell on help. â besides, it seemed that trouble liked to run past her these days. felicia personally didnât get into it ( ignoring her father in prison and her sticky fingers with shiny things ). â i offered, and i was raised by a thief. i can HANDLE trouble. â the blonde shot him a look, despite his lack of ability to see her, a force of habit that was far too hard to break within a couple weeks. but at the move of his hand, she placed the now clean staff in his hand, using her other hand to steady his wrist as she gave it to him. â as far as iâm concerned, you saved me. i donât see what the apology is for. â
he nodded slowly, forcing himself to remain silent instead of voicing further concerns ( he had a few, though one or two were unnecessary and would undoubtedly be kept to himself. ) at the new information, both brows rose and reader nodded his understanding, offering a brief fraction of a smile. âi see. i didnât mean to question or doubt you in anyway, felicia. iâm just -- worried.â nothing new there. readerâs fingers closed around the weapon the second it was placed within his grasp, shoulders relaxing once more. âi think you know what itâs for, but i also really donât think NOW is the time for that discussion.â
Bruce brought his eyes off his textbook, staring at the young man for a moment in silence. Bear stirred next to him and instantly became curious about the dog across from him. He tutted at the dog and gave him permission to cross the table to sniff at the strange dog.Â
âHeâs a bit big, if he sits on your dog, Iâm not going to apologize,â Bruce said bluntly.
Reader chuckled softly, the fingers of his free hand carding gently through dark curls. âIâm sure that wonât be a problem, even if he does. Foreyâs survived much worse.â It was true; the mutt was certainly not the conventional â guide dog â, for his duties far surpassed such a simple thing. He hummed quietly, scratching behind the dogâs ears. âHow long have you had him?? -- Oh, wait... Am I interrupting your reading??â
âDo me a favor dear and donât touch me again.â
â--Ah. Iâm sorry, that was an accident, I had no idea you were even there.â
â mhmm. sure, okay reader, whatever helps you sleep at night, i wouldnât want to ruin your sleeping habits  by not believing you or anythings, â she teased him with a grin. it was a nice feeling; not worrying about anything going on right now, not worrying about the green goblin, money, her father, stealing. it was a nice feeling to just be there. â i know itâs probably no like⊠GIFT or whatever, but i know people milk it for all itâs worth. i bet you could get forey a female friend for cheap, â she suggested with a shrug, really just saying anything â and partially to cover how really AWFUL she sounded when she suggested using his blindness to play pity points. felicia knew it sucked being pitied, she hated herself. her eyebrows crinkled as he continued to talk. lor. â INHUMANS, â the blonde replied quietly, her brain silently thinking to what they were again. â powered, right?? â and it was answered by him as she nodded. â WELL â it happens. itâs not like weâre born able to walk or talk or whatever, we had to learn control. â my boss brought down half of his first floor when his powers developed. but a â wow, the lor as a lost tribe. thatâs⊠something iâve never heard of before. â felicia finally took a breath, nodding. â so you want dog communication drugs; i think i could hook you up with an apothecary?? â
âwell, full of kindness and charity today, arenât we, felicia?? did i stumble upon you on a super good day?? or is it my charm??â he teased right back, head tilted back and eyebrows raised in challenge for a moment. â-- woah, generalisations, alright then...â reader beamed, another series of airy laughs falling from his lips. âitâs uh, yeah -- definitely not a GIFT. but it has its ups and downs; like everything, i guess? also kind of depends on the people you meet, yâknow, some peopleâll grab you by the arm and drag you anywhere and then thereâs the people that give you a warning or ask. two guesses which of those is my favourite.â chuckling slightly, the inhuman lifted both shoulders in a shrug. âmaybe iâll try and get him a female friend -- how does that sound, bud??â reaching forward, gentle fingers tangled once more into the canineâs fur, earning a happy bark in response. âpow--?? oh, right. yeah. a whole variety, too. itâs pretty crazy. hooking me up would be very helpful, iâm sure dog communication drugs are in high demand.â
Bruce didnât bother looking up from his textbook when the chair across from him was hauled across the concrete and taken. Bear didnât seem too threatened and Bruce had learned in the few weeks since the dog had started living with him that he was a good judge of character.Â
âItâs rude to sit down at someoneâs table without permission.â
The instant the other began to speak, a kind ( and somewhat apologetic ) smile flickered across and brightened Readerâs features. One hand rested flat upon the table between them, the other upon Foreyâs head, fingers raking gently through the muttâs fur. âI know, and for not asking permission Iâm very sorry, but -- uh, you have a dog, right?? Itâs the only reason I can think of for this guyâs excitement.â
âWow, still cooler than creating just ice.â Nadine kept her awestruck smile on her face. âA little.â She shrugged. âEither way, I want to see it.â
âWell, I guess weâre gonna have to file that one under â debatable â because Iâm not sure I can agree on that. Least you know exactly what you can do -- gotta make it easier to learn to control, yeah??â Reader too remained grinning, head tipping to one side. âYeah?? Mmh, weâll see about that one.â
her sleeve moved against the metal almost mechanically, she not even watching her actions. this shirt would be thrown away, probably. she didnât know how to removed bloodstains and a little voice in her head told her harry wouldnât be all too thrilled to see a bloodstained shirt in her position. felicia still listened to their surroundings when she could, taking advantage of the silence. â yeah. â for a moment she wondered if this was odd. sheâd grown up with a thief, visiting her father in jail, having a deceased mother â the blonde had grown up differently than most, it led her to deal with things differently. â thanks. â i mean, my game plan was to keep running until out of here and go to my place. they probably have no idea who i am â right?? â she asked, her eyes looking to him for a second.Â
âi think thatâs probably the best plan for now... are you sure your place is alright, though??â he paused, chest rising and falling and an uneasy frown flickering across his visible features. âi donât want to intrude or, as childish as it sounds -- get you into any trouble. iâm sure thatâs the last thing you want.â at her question, the inhuman simply nodded, holding a hand out ( somewhat hesitantly, for reasons unknown to him ), a silent ask for his staff back. perhaps it was a comfort thing, maybe it was something different entirely but heâd come to the conclusion that SOMETHING to hold on to would be wildly helpful in that moment. âiâm sorry, felicia.â
Nadine looked at him in slight awe. âThatâs cool. Anything you read can become real?â
âAs far as I know it extends to â anything â.â He shrugged, the grin still plastered across his features. âHey, maybe I can even create ice. Yours would probably be better though -- youâve had practice, right?? Seems a bit unfair on me.â
This was definitely a new situation for Vision. He had observed a few animals outside of the compound and had even scratched Carolâs alien cat behind the ears once, but heâd never had a dog react to him so excitedly. Kneeling down a bit, he smoothed his fingers through the dogâs fur, a smile spreading across his lips. âI am beginning to see why people insist they are a dog personâŠâ
In response, Forey took his place atop the roof, hastily rolling over onto his back to encourage the affection from the other currently being laid upon him. Reader imagined it was probably just nice for the dog to have company outside of just him for a change. Fingers tracing an idle pattern upon the surface beneath the three of them, the blind Inhuman hummed quietly. âKeep going like that and heâll follow you around all day, demanding more petting.â He beamed. âIâm Reader, by the way -- and that is Forey.â
she herself took advantage of the moment of silence, her blue eyes casting a glance over at him. for the moment, she oddly felt almost glad he couldnât see her. felicia wasnât usually one to check up on people unless she genuinely cared; and then she felt like her glancing may get weird. her noticing the slight reaction under her touch made her want to cast another one, but she held back, instead surveying the area. â this way, i think. just walk fast, â she said, despite it not being necessary. the blonde took the staff from him, bunching up her sleeve before wiping at it. call her OCD, but old habits were hard to break. â â cleaning it. thereâs some splashes of⊠you know, and weâd probably be better off as this acting as your clean, seeing stick without it covered with⊠you know. â
remaining silent ( what could he say, really?? certainly nothing was springing to mind. it didnât seem appropriate to bring anything trivial up and reader wanted NOTHING less than to talk about what had just occurred. ) he nodded his understanding, falling easily into step by her side -- running like this was not something that was new to the inhuman at all, if anything it was the closest thing to familiarity heâd managed to extract from the time spent in new york so far. â--oh.â that made sense, he supposed. he was glad that, between the two of them at least one had it together ( or at least, felicia seemed to be a LOT more collected than he was in that moment. ) âyeah, no -- definitely. iâm in total agreement with you there. where are we going, exactly?? or are we just running??â he didnât necessarily NEED to know, but it would be nice -- given that he was already far too exhausted to waste any energy on a read just to be able to see.Â
â i do believe that is the best way to make social interaction go as smoothly as possible. you know, give the other person a heads up. but thatâs just a theory. â felicia tilted her head, watching him in way that she hoped wasnât considered off. â oh, yeah. youâve got the blind thing going for you, the the lack of frosted cookie going for you; youâre a jackpot of tragedy compared to her. â ME, exaggerating?? why, iâm offended, iâd do NO such thing. â she layered her tone with sarcasm and a lighthearted finishing touch. perhaps it was a bit childish, continuing on the conversation with cookies â but it was a fairly easy ice breaker and the conversation still had yet to bore her. â you know, all the tribe vagueness is just making me more curious. i did promise itâd be off the records, right?? not that i work as a journalist or anything, but i like to think it was the thought that counts. â the blonde figured to go for it. she was fairly interested in on the subject and nothing could scare her away these days. she was a born and raised new yorker. â youâre going for the big guns, then. it would be cooler. BOTH is good, really. that way, thereâd really be no mixed signals. you could finally give forey the meal heâs always wanted. â
âi knew that. it was a test,â he huffed a breath, a playful grin tugging at his lips -- reader wasnât quite sure he could remember the last time heâd felt so... relaxed. maybe it wasnât the best of times to be relaxed ( he was still new to new york, felicia was very quickly going from acquaintance to friend, admittedly -- but still. ) it didnât seem like it was the best time. âokay, i can give you that one -- the blind thing is pretty much unquestionably helpful in that regard.â not that he EVER appreciated pity because of it. no, that was a surefire way to make his blood boil ( he would never be rude about it, but that didnât mean he couldnât silently fume and essentially act like a grump for a few hours. ) he conceded with an airy laugh, hands rising in a surrender. âyou did, you did. and the thought definitely did count, so -- the tribe that i belonged to; the Lor settled in orollan about a millennia ago. outside of there though they -- or, we, i suppose were known as the lost tribe of inhumans.â the inhuman paused, clearing his throat. âbecause the population of the city was... decimated when one of our ownâs powers were awakened.â reader hummed quietly, weight shifting back and forth. âof course i am. both would be great -- like you said, iâd have to be an utter fool to go wrong.â
It was quite unusual for him to find someone who didnât know who he was, at least via the media. As the thought crossed his mind, he found himself frowning at how self-absorbed that seemed to be. âWhich I am ruining,â he observed with a nod, turning around almost instantly and gliding back towards the way he came. âPlease forgive me. I will leave you to your peace and quiet.â
â... Ruining??â Reader questioned, brows rising as he moved to sit up a little straighter. âNo, no, not at all. Youâre more than welcome to stay.â The Inhuman replied hastily, a bright grin flickering across his face. As if in joint protest, Forey LEAPT from his ownerâs side to pounce around Visionâs feet, yapping excitedly.Â
