The sooner we get top surgery the better.
Because of how I see a lot of beings in this community talk and behave, I want to give ya'll a gentle reminder.
You do not have to fit your alterhuman experiences into a specific label. Its okay if you aren't therian, otherkin, otherhearted, or anything else specifically.
My alterhuman identity doesnt fall into any of the community's labels. A lot of my experiences are different from those of many in the community. Calling myself something specific doesn't fit me, and thats okay. It was so freeing for me to stop trying to fit myself into one specific label, or act a certain way to fit into the community.
Its okay to just call yourself alterhuman or whatever and move on. Its okay if your experiences are different from others in the community. It doesnt mean you're faking, or not alterhuman enough, or anything like that. And if others try to tell you those things, block them and move on. They're not the kind of being you want to be around anyways.
And I've talked a bit about nesting and denning, but I don't think I've talked about herding. For my verse, that would be the beta equivalent.
When I think of the three genders, I almost think of them as walls - if that makes sense. Omegas, being placed in the innermost wall, alphas being in the second, and betas being placed in the outer third wall. This is ofc, in a metaphorical sense. There are no actual walls separating them like some weird attack on Titan classism bs.
What I'm meaning to say is betas keep the pack in. They keep them together. No pups can stray with betas on duty, omegas in heat stay right in the nest with a beta nearby, aggravated alpha insisting on doing perimeter checks after the den was breached by a stranger - no worries, your betas are here to actually keep them within the perimeter instead of running after the intruder.
And just like any other instinct, this can have drawbacks. A lot of betas are prone to late night wandering and insomnia. Sometimes they herd packmates who are just "busy right now" and "are going to be late for work our other packmate already scented me please let me go". They're quicker to get stressed if someone isn't where they're supposed to be, or have a sudden change in schedule.
So tldr; omegas make a nest, alphas den around the nest, and betas keep everyone contained within the den. And just like nesting and denning, the other dynamics have this instinct too - just to a lesser extent. Everyone has a preference one way or the other.
I think one of the biggest misconceptions about fatigue is that it's just a more extreme version of tiredness. Fatigue and tiredness are not the same thing. The biggest difference between them is that tiredness goes away if you rest, but fatigue doesn't. When you suffer from fatigue, your body keeps draining you even while you're lying down or sleeping. It's like a leak's been opened up somewhere and your energy keeps draining away no matter what you do. All you can do is wait and hope that at some point the flow will stop.
Just a reminder, but you do not need to “earn” being tired.
You’re allowed to be tired, even if you haven’t “done” anything and you’re allowed to be tired even if you did less than someone else.
Being tired is a normal thing your body does for a whole plethora of reasons, and is a basic bodily function. You don’t need to “earn” basic bodily functions, no matter what anyone else tells you.
As someone who deals with crushing fatigue pretty frequently due to a chronic illness, I love this and would like to add:
It is NEVER a waste of a day to rest. Never, ever. My therapist and I have talked about this and they always remind me that resting when needed is actually an investment of time, not a waste.
Take care out there - and combat the mind-fuck around rest and tiredness as much as you can!!!
… so we’d all pick shapeshifting right?
Happy Pride, bite a transphobe today 💙
